Twisting the Bible to Push Essential Oils (feat. Genetically Modified Skeptic)

  • According to Eric Hovind's guest, in Biblical times, essential oils were used for everything from holy ceremonies to everyday needs. And today, if you're willing to pay quite a bit of money to Eric Hovind, you too can harness the all-natural power of essential oils to calm, purify, and heal our bodies and homes.
But is Eric merely twisting the Bible to push his new products from the controversial organization called Young Living. Just because the Bible speaks of many different oils being used for everything from the crowning of a king to the healing of the body, does that mean that essential oils are an intersection of science and scripture?
Join Drew from @Genetically Modified Skeptic and I as we watch Megan Trombly and Eric Hovind share their interpretations of the Oils of the Bible.

But if a pill exists, it's DESIGNED BY GOD, hence it's good for you, right? I mean, we don't see eyeglasses evolving into phials filled with toxins. Eyeglasses only breed eyeglasses. And because eyeglasses are made of glass, all glass must be from eyeglasses, right? And because rock doesn't breed glass, eyeglasses MUST be designed and poofed into existence by a God. Right? Therefore all phials filled with whatnot must be CREATED by DOG.
That is the reasoning by all Hovinds in a nutshell.

When I was a student I worked in the summer at the local hospital as an auxiliary nurse - made beds, cleaned patients' lockers, served meals. Generally unskilled work to allow nursing staff to get on with nursing. Eventually I'd help with patients' dressings post op etc. A patient complained of pain once and the nurse thought it was only in his mind. She got a phial of sterile water and injected him with it saying it was a strong analgesic. Some time later she asked how he felt and was told the pain had gone and it was great stuff she had used 🙄

Peppermint oil. In a recovery room? That can't be safe. I wouldn't have wanted anyone with that stuff anywhere near me after either of my two brain surgeries. Especially the second one, when my "bandages" was polysporin applied directly to the leaking wound.
But over-the-counter "natural" ginger Gravol? I could see that being used. Better to have diphenhydramine (or is it dimenhydrinate? I always confuse the two) handy, but still better than scented oils.

Many ailments in modern countries are associated with poor diet and lifestyle practices, if everybody ate mostly or entirely a balanced, whole food plant based diet and exercise regularly there would be a significantly lower need for pharmaceuticals as there actually are an enormous amount of beneficial compounds in plants and eatinga diet heavy with whole plant foods is like eating a natural pharmacy.

Essential oils, imo, are seen quite differently here in Australia.
We use them frequently in home cleaning mixes or basic first aid; like eucalyptus & tea tree oils.
There's a few old wives tips for the herbs, like fresh rosemary & eucalyptus for colds, or peppermint for digestion.
The main use for essential oils here are more for aromatherapy. The idea that different oils and their smells can change your mood & mental outlook.
I'm sure there are fringe groups who maybe go all in. But maybe access to free health care doesn't lead people here to look for desperate solutions to our health problems.? Maybe.

Hm, if the oil would be cold-pressed from Italian snakes, they would sell it as "Snake Oil Extra Vergine" 😀

What's going to be terrifying is when these companies put out something like "Crazy Cure" pure chamomile oil..... So some clinical schizophrenic goes off their meds thinking " this oil is all I need."

Creation miracle oil is the best thing you can buy. If Onan had used Eric's oil when he pulled out of his brother's wife god would have spared his life. Powerful stuff

Paul--- I want to see Modern Day Debates do a debate on Biblical Inspiration and Inerrancy, preferably between an atheist (YOU), a progressive Christian, and a fundamentalist Christian. Bonus points if they have bible college/seminary backgrounds aka actually know what they're talking about not just feels
