I have both varieties. My barbadensis are huge now. I use them to make soaps and body creams. I also have arborescens which I recently heard has stronger properties than the other two. I use arborescens as an eye drop and a skin salve. I have a collection of other aloes including succotrina, ferox, pendens, camperii etc. I collect non-hybrid.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden My arborescens is quite juicy so I can squeeze drops out of it into my eyes. I stand the leaf in water first to drain the latex. I have noticed an improvement in dry eyes, soreness, tiredness and itchiness. I have been doing this for about 6 months...but not on anyone's advice, I just decided to try it and it works for me with no ill effects.

Yes, you can. I have two videos showing how to make a soap from a whole leaf. One is using the juice of a whole leaf without peeling the skin, the other one is using everything without filtering and pulp and skin.

I normally pick leaves from 2 bushes in the street on man's land. From the same bush, I have found some leaves with the yellow latex and some without. I only use it for cosmetic use. (I condition my hair with it and make my own hairgel). I stand all of them in water for at least an hour before using, whether it has latex or not. I am trying to propogate my own atm
Barbadensis is my favourite one . But I have the 2nd one which I don't like at all cause it releases a lot of pups . So it became so hard for me to care. They can't grow well in the mass of pups.

If not then there’s a problem - could be they don’t need direct sunlight whole day. Keep them under indirect sunlight. If the plant is not healthy then it will not give pups. There are over 400 known Aloes and more than a thousand hybrids. Among the Aloes, there are 3 known commercially produced for consumption, Aloe vera, Aloe arborescens, and Aloe maculata or saponaria. Aloe vera has two varieties, the barbadensis and chinens, both are edible.

@@TheAloeVeraGarden I had the colors backwards! Thanks for answering. Your video on leaf rot helped be save my barbadensis after prairie dogs attacked it resulting in a bad case of leaf rot. Based on your guidance, I removed all the leaves (all covered in orange/yellow infection at the base) cut down to the stem with no orange/yellow, and replanted the stem. The stem has several pups now and I'm so glad to have saved my barbadensis!
I didn't say that barbadensis is better, it is just bigger. Both plants has pros and cons. Chinensis maybe smaller but it propagates and grows faster, it is also an all weather plant and is more resilient.
In my work there is an aloe mother (I think it's a barbadensis) of at least 10 years old who was without irrigation for months due to the quarantine, she is already green and rehabilitated again, I have taken almost 10 children from her, the oldest ones looked like the mother aloe, but the little ones (which I already planted in their own pot 3 months ago) looks different, they have thinner, longer, darker green leaves and they have lost almost all the white spots at this point, it may be another kind of aloe or do they just look different because they are still small? 🌱🙏🏼

Yes, that is true, sometimes it is difficult to recognize the variety if you only have one. I have grown two varieties for 5 years now that is why it is easy for me. I was planning to make a video on each variety but I don't want to confuse people more because they change shapes and color depending on the maturity and the environment the grow. Even the little pups are different in size, shape and color even if they are of the same variety.

I'm like 90% sure that is just an internet myth, unless my family (and specific populations) are just straight up immune to any poisons that it produces. We've been eating both for decades... It's true that the other ones are easier to harvest for food though. Once the peels are removed, they taste about the same.

How old do they have to be before they flower? I have never seen mine flower, but it's probably still young, I've had it a couple of years though.

Chinensis is a variegated Barbadensis, they are both Aloe vera. Chinensis is grown in farms in many parts of Asia.

Your other aloe vera can grow big too, just remove the pups regularly. You can throw the pups in the compost if you don't need them anymore.

Well, they are just following the rule of thumb, if you're not sure - don't. Also, aloes and aloe vera confuse a lot of people.

Aloe vera chinensis is less loved in some parts of the world. I just showed in the video that there's not much difference between the two.

I didn't say that barbadensis is better, it is just bigger. Both plants has pros and cons. Chinensis maybe smaller but it propagates and grows faster, it is also an all weather plant and is more resilient.

In my work there is an aloe mother (I think it's a barbadensis) of at least 10 years old who was without irrigation for months due to the quarantine, she is already green and rehabilitated again, I have taken almost 10 children from her, the oldest ones looked like the mother aloe, but the little ones (which I already planted in their own pot 3 months ago) looks different, they have thinner, longer, darker green leaves and they have lost almost all the white spots at this point, it may be another kind of aloe or do they just look different because they are still small? 🌱🙏🏼

My aloe barbadensis has a yellow liquid and smells really bad when cut. Why is this happening??
The yellow sap or the latex smells bad, that's why you have to let it drip.

Yes, that is true, sometimes it is difficult to recognize the variety if you only have one. I have grown two varieties for 5 years now that is why it is easy for me. I was planning to make a video on each variety but I don't want to confuse people more because they change shapes and color depending on the maturity and the environment the grow. Even the little pups are different in size, shape and color even if they are of the same variety.

I think I have barbadensis but their leaves look different to yours. Their are not as thick as yours but wider.

Did you drain well the yellow liquid (latex).?it causes itching .try a skin patch test to know if you are allergic to the latex.some pple are.

It's true that the other ones are easier to harvest for food though. Once the peels are removed, they taste about the same.

Di ko po alam kasi more than one year na yung leaves eh na parang mabubulok na
Pareho silang may white spots kapag bata pa, pero mas maraming spots ang Chinensis. Madali ring mawawala ang white spots sa Barbadensis kapag nag mature na, sa Chinensis medyo matagal mawala.

You should repot ypur aloe to bigger pot or widder pot aloe vera need a wide pot or ithink your aloe is small variety or your aloe is jot getting lights or it has so many pups some of those
