Hi, I hope you’re well. I found your review quite useful and most of my concerns have been catered to by watching your video. Would you recommend this to a freelancer who has to work for 7-8 hours back to back? Though you mentioned that it wouldn’t last more than 2 hours but do you think it can go on for 7-8 hrs with the charger plugged in?
Glad it was helpful! This model is over 6 years old at this point, mine still works flawlessly and it’s fine for running it all day but it’s getting old. ( like the battery) If you need a solid machine for work I would get a newer EliteBook like the G9, they are pretty affordable now. I would even consider getting micro or SFF desktop with a screen.
Not really, it has no dedicated GPU only the integrated one, so it has to be a really old game or someting with a super low resolution. What games would you play?

Yes, it is 3520. If you are not traveling much with the Inspiron and do not need a long battery life, I would go with that for sure instead of the old HP. IF you need to carry the laptop you would need to look for something else.
I think they they are just outdated if you need any graphics related work to be done on a laptop. Do you know what software are you going to use? Pretty much everything requires least a dedicated GPU with least 2GB video memory. The laptop screen also should have a good color gamut to see how the picture or final graphics design will appear on other devices. If you can give me the list of softwares and your approximate budget, I can recommend some models.
What do think about the elitebook 840 g7 i5 16gb/256gb ssd in 2024 for a graphic designer.basic photoshop and illustrator. Saw one for 400€. Let me know please
Yes, that machine is old as well without a true, up to date graphics performance. I would not purchase it for €400, they more like $250 at this point. Depending on what you do and how fast it needs to be done, it`s recommended to have a dedicated GPU for the Illustrator. One option is getting a laptop around €400 with a Gen 12 or 13 intel i5 CPU paired with Iris Xe like this one: shorturl.at/4Wi5o This i5 is still significantly faster and better than the EliteBook G7 with the i7. The other thing I would consider is getting a $500 gaming laptop with an RTX3050 when they are on sale : shorturl.at/0LgEg
I haven’t. This one has no dedicated GPU , the CPU’s is six generations behind us at this point and also a U cpu aimed for power efficiency not for performance. I edit my 15 minute 4k videos on a desktop with DaVinci Resolve. That has a quadro P4000 with 8 GB of ram a core i9-12900k cpu with 32 GB ram and still can be sluggish time to time. What software would you run on this ?
According to the system requirements Premier Pro requires a dedicated video card with least 2 Gb of ram, this laptop has none. It might still work, but I would get something which has a dedicated GPU already like an older Z book
There is a healthcare version of this laptop where they used a built-in privacy screen, that has a “super bad” view angles by design, it prevents people from shoulder surfing so if you are not completely right in front of it will be dark black for sure. This laptop has none of that, the view angle is completely standard, I have no issues with the screen regard of that.

Hello, Only very, very old games and games not requiring graphics cards or games running in a browser. It’s a laptop that runs office applications, I would not recommend to get one of this for gaming.
I have used this laptop for IT in the past five years every single day and it still works great. If you are going to buy one, please do not pay more than 120-150 dollars for it and it must be in perfect condition. Also ask for the battery life, since my laptop still has the original battery, and it won’t last longer than 2 hours. Regarding CPU and GPU performance, any 12-gen intel i3 CPU or newer will easily outperform this laptop. If this is important to you besides IT work any new cheap $250 laptop with a modern i3 CPU will be significantly faster.
They are all different, the 840 is 14” the 1030 is a convertible laptop where the 830 is 13.3”. I would get whichever has a newer cpu a better battery and more ram. What is your budget and where are you located?

I this so. I would not pay for these a whole lot , probably around $100-$150, depending on the configuration. Around $300 you can get much newer or better machines! Let me know if you have any questions!
I can`t :( 99% of my clients are Windows users, sometimes I have to test stuff or send them Windows screenshots. It served its purpose flawlessly, never failed me on the job it`s time to get a new laptop.
This laptop is about six years old, worth about $100 US at this point. You mean the 2024 version against the Air m2? I think the M2 overall is a better machine, but it really depends on what environment you have to work within. I manage over 1100 computers and 99.5% of them are Windows because they are in a windows environment. HP ProBook 440 14-inch G11 starts around $869 with 16 Gb of ram, it`s nice machine, but it`s just a basic data entry laptop.

Hi Scott, Im planning to buy a 2nd hand used Elitebook 240 g5 8gen 512 ssd, i7 for my software development. Is that configuration fine? May i know what how to check laptop performance? Please reply. 🙏
Sure, it would work but gen 8 is about to get 6 years old. Not sure how much you are going to pay for that laptop but for $300 you can get a new laptop with a gen12 i3 CPU. That will be much faster than any gen8 -gen 10 CPU. Even a low level laptop will last just as long as the already 6 years old business will do.Laptop with a gen12 CPU is newer has more modern features, I would rather go with that, plus you have least one year warranty on it. With a used laptop, there could be a bad or degraded battery, cooling fan might need mainteance or replacement. The SSD might used to the point where it`s no longer healthy. The laptop might got dropped or used to the point where the hinges or case is damaged or worn.
My laptop has a 250 Gb SSD, it’s my daily drive, I work as a full time onsite technician. This game requires 110 GB of free space so today I freed up enough space, installed a the game which also required me to create a rockstar account. Once I did it that the game refused to load because of insufficient graphics card. It offered to start the game in safe mode, but that also failed. So unfortunately this laptop is unable to run the game. Hope this helps!

I would send them a $230 offer on these, these are significantly faster and newer than the one I have. Even if they have a small cosmetic damage or blemish they still worth it.
Thanks Scott.
Can you tell me how long the battery use to last when you initially bought it?
I think it was an all day battery , I only use the browser and outlook, lasted 8-10 hours easily. Now it lasts for about 2 hours. Not worth getting a new battery since the laptop only worth about $100 at this point.
Excellent.
Thanks for watching!
Hi
Will this system be good for digital marketing and data analysis?
An i7- 8665u.
Or do I go for Lenovo thinkpad T14s
i5- 11th gen?
In this case I would go for a newer machine for sure. T14 is a great machine.
Battery timining?????
At this point battery last about 2 hours with light browsing only.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Ohh it's very less considering the price also is it good for students?
Hi, I hope you’re well.
I found your review quite useful and most of my concerns have been catered to by watching your video.
Would you recommend this to a freelancer who has to work for 7-8 hours back to back? Though you mentioned that it wouldn’t last more than 2 hours but do you think it can go on for 7-8 hrs with the charger plugged in?
Glad it was helpful! This model is over 6 years old at this point, mine still works flawlessly and it’s fine for running it all day but it’s getting old. ( like the battery)
If you need a solid machine for work I would get a newer EliteBook like the G9, they are pretty affordable now. I would even consider getting micro or SFF desktop with a screen.
Is hp 840 g8 i7 better than it?
your graph is mislabelled g5 or is this actually a g5 you are reviewing?
Hey,
Thank you for pointing this out, unfortunately it was mislabeled.
Is the Lenovo Thinkpad t490s a good choice
Those are great machines!
Can you play games in it?
Not really, it has no dedicated GPU only the integrated one, so it has to be a really old game or someting with a super low resolution.
What games would you play?
hi, i have these options:
1.850 g5 i7 (8gb_256gb_intel 620) ~$290
2.840 g6 i5 (16gb_256gb_2gb radeon 550x) ~$300
3.745 g6 i5 (16gb_512gb_2gb vega 8) ~$255
4.855 g7 i5 (16gb_256gb_512mb r6) ~$295
i want it mostly for web design & kali linux, & maybe some video editing... which one would you choose?
do amd cpus/gpus have problem with kali?
If you do any kind of video editing you need a dedicated GPU, I only see AMD processors with RADEON VEGA . These are probably still not good enough for video editing.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. i might go for the zbook 15 g5 studio with xeon cpu & quadro p1000 gpu, but that's around $430 😥

Sure. What specs and price are you looking at?
I bought it used and seems very nice except the finger print sensor doesn't work.

Is that the Inspiron 3520 from 2023?
Yes, it is 3520. If you are not traveling much with the Inspiron and do not need a long battery life, I would go with that for sure instead of the old HP. IF you need to carry the laptop you would need to look for something else.
745 g6 Ryzen 5 3500u
840 g5 core i5 8th Gen
Which is better for digital marketing and graphics design?
I think they they are just outdated if you need any graphics related work to be done on a laptop.
Do you know what software are you going to use?
Pretty much everything requires least a dedicated GPU with least 2GB video memory.
The laptop screen also should have a good color gamut to see how the picture or final graphics design will appear on other devices.
If you can give me the list of softwares and your approximate budget, I can recommend some models.
Does it flip?
Is it good for someone that wants to lean Data Analysis?
Not sure how large the dataset you need to work on, I would probably get a newer laptop for that, with a 12 or 13th gen CPU.
The other thing I would consider is getting a $500 gaming laptop with an RTX3050 when they are on sale : shorturl.at/0LgEg
is 840 G6 with a 2gb dedicated AMD graphics card model good for casual gaming along with work ?
This is not a gaming laptop on the top of that the cpu itself is pretty outdated. What game would you play?
Is it good to edit videos?
No , you can’t . I would not edit videos on this, this laptop is pretty much for browsing, emails, moving files , watching movie only at this point.
Unfortunately it’s not good enough for that, has no dedicated GPU , the CPU is just too old as well, it’s a solid laptop for very basic things.
has anyone tried rendering on this laptop?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Thank you for your quick response. I was planning to use premier pro on this for my go pro videos
According to the system requirements Premier Pro requires a dedicated video card with least 2 Gb of ram, this laptop has none. It might still work, but I would get something which has a dedicated GPU already like an older Z book
Hi, is the viewing angles of this laptop decent or getting dark at angles? Thank you.

How good is this laptop for video editing

can i do gaming in this one?
Hello,
Only very, very old games and games not requiring graphics cards or games running in a browser. It’s a laptop that runs office applications, I would not recommend to get one of this for gaming.
Please is it touchscreen?
This one is not a touch screen, but there were options on this model, so yes you can find some HP EliteBook 840 G6 laptops with a touch screen!
Will you recommend it for IT student?
I have used this laptop for IT in the past five years every single day and it still works great. If you are going to buy one, please do not pay more than 120-150 dollars for it and it must be in perfect condition. Also ask for the battery life, since my laptop still has the original battery, and it won’t last longer than 2 hours.
Regarding CPU and GPU performance, any 12-gen intel i3 CPU or newer will easily outperform this laptop. If this is important to you besides IT work any new cheap $250 laptop with a modern i3 CPU will be significantly faster.
mine is great but it overheats if used while charging, i dunno whats the problem ?
Please Which is better between hp elitebook 840 g5 core i5 vs hp elitebook 840 g6 core i5
The g6 should have a better heat and battery management but they both great.
Can you please tell me wich one is better ?
- Hp 840 g6 I5 8th generation
-Hp 1030 G2 I5 7th generation
-Hp 830 G7 I5 10th generation
They are all different, the 840 is 14” the 1030 is a convertible laptop where the 830 is 13.3”. I would get whichever has a newer cpu a better battery and more ram.

Can U Use It For Editing
For vide editing ? No it has no dedicated GPU and it`s pretty old at this point.
Maybe try and put Linux on it to cure the sluggishness?
I can`t :( 99% of my clients are Windows users, sometimes I have to test stuff or send them Windows screenshots. It served its purpose flawlessly, never failed me on the job it`s time to get a new laptop.
Compared to MacBooks Air M2 for example ?
This laptop is about six years old, worth about $100 US at this point. You mean the 2024 version against the Air m2? I think the M2 overall is a better machine, but it really depends on what environment you have to work within. I manage over 1100 computers and 99.5% of them are Windows because they are in a windows environment. HP ProBook 440 14-inch G11 starts around $869 with 16 Gb of ram, it`s nice machine, but it`s just a basic data entry laptop.
My 4500u probook performs similar(better) than the 12th gen i3 listed hre. Not by much though but its robust. Avoid pavilions unless tey are given to you, elitebooks/probooks are on another level of quality. have to fix my probook 445 g7 spill resistant keyboard from liquid damage. Just got a faster elitebook. Avoid cheap plastic laptops. Metal is a heatsink, plastic is a fire source

Hi Scott,
Im planning to buy a 2nd hand used Elitebook 240 g5 8gen 512 ssd, i7 for my software development.
