Ladies and gentlemen, in this video I restored an antique Saw Blade Tooth Setter.
It´s around 50 years old (depending on the screws) and has a lot of options for adjustment:
- setting the height of your saw blade
- setting how far the teeht will be pushed into the setter heads
- setting how far the single tooth should be set
- setting if the clamps lock theirselves while setting, or not
- You can set the way the setting heads move
I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!
If you want to support my channel hit the like, leave a comment, subscribe and share my work. It helps a lot! :-)
Thanks for watching!

. Hello. Türkiye'de bu alete. Bant testere çapraz makinası derler.

MM restores a car and my Bro Mister P one of the most interesting small machines I've ever seen. Dear diary, today was a good day!
All that’s missing from today is a post from you!!🍺
Agreed!
Not kidding! And another beer review!
And it could have been even better if you just posted every now and then
Okay okay. I will post today. Are you happy now?
I rarely give a thumbs-up without seeing some metalwork. Never a problem with your restorations. You have been faithful in removing damage and casting flaws. Thank you.
Thank you so much John!
Beautiful workmanship mate, I enjoyed watching you, Ste 🇬🇧
Fantastic. All the things we love ( many parts, sandblasting, respray and cold bluing) then you add some cheeky vacuuming! The dowel in the handle scene ..... ☺🤣
Nasty are these, which think nasty 🤣🤣
@@misterpatina 🤣
the more I watch your channel the more convinced I become that a system is REQUIRED when it comes to restoring something. it doesn't matter what the system is but you need to put things in an order that you can pick them back up and reassemble them. I don't plan on restoring anything anytime soon, but I do so love to tinker with things and now you have me thinking about my system
Haha, yeah there’s a system. But there’s a huge difference between a system in restoring and a system in restoring and filming.
But in any case it isn’t magic. Make yourself a good plan and pictures BEFORE restoring, and don’t rip a finger off 😉
I sometimes thought filming started as a mean to document before the restoration, to know what goes where during the deassembling… Is it the case or did you have a totally separate system for both filming and restoring ?
I love your attention to detail, even aligning the screw heads, its the sign of a master crafts-person!
Hey man! Iam glad you’ve recognized the details! Thanks for watching!
Using the earplugs was a great idea. Great job sir!
Thanks :-)

Love the morphing “before and after” part at the end!!! Brilliant!
Iam glad you enjoyed!
Mister P, thats was a half an hour well spent Sir.... thank you for sharing
Hey man, iam glad you enjoyed 🥳
All tools addicts out there, please, correct me if I am wrong. Spanners used by Mister Patina are the SlimLine series from Proxxon. Ratchet made by -Proxxon as well- Vigor (red dot model). Slotted screwdrivers shown through the video are from PB Swiss, with 22:58 illustrating why those are the best flat screwdrivers in the world: their blade profile is not a triangular shape, as generally expected with cheaper brands, but a true square wedge that slots perfectly into the screw head while avoiding damaging it during high torque fastening.
Let me add: some spanners from KS tools, the ratchet is Vigor 🙂
Not only did you clean it, but also refinished it as well. Now the value has gone way up! Thumbs Up!
This episode have much parts i enjoy more 😊
Eccellente realizzazione! Complimenti!
I believe this has more parts than anything you have ever done. Absolutely, AMAZING!
Nothing beats the ‚Kolibri' Air Compressor 😄
But yeah, big puzzle here 😅
I remember watching my grandfather set the teeth on his handsaws after sharpening them using a much smaller handheld setting tool. With it you did every other tooth from one side then did the other teeth from the other side. This is a much easier machine but not for the average carpenter with only 3 or 4 handsaws. Beautiful restoration as usual. The end result is art as well as a tool.
I've seen one at a flea market. I'm fairly certain that they're for enormous bandsaw blades, mostly for sawmills and re-sawing. The one that I have seen was navy surplus.
I'm more certain that these didn't come from the factory looking nearly so nice! A real museum piece!
I have always wanted something like this to set my woodworking saws instead of having to use a punch and a hammer!! Incredible restoration as always, Mr. Patina! Love the paint job!
Hey Martin! Go for it, they aren’t that expensive.
Thank you so much! 🙂👍
Michael
I recall a small manual version used with a vice and a punch, did all of one way then reversed for the other. It was pretty tedious using that jig though. This one would be great!
I have a saw tooth setting device from the 1800's that works fine on smaller teeth, I made a massive 3 point rip saw and needed something to set those teeth, made it out of a sheet metal clamp and some scrap steel. BTW, you bend those hardened teeth, the tips will snap off, just like his did.
@@SunnnyDay I don’t remember folks normalizing the blades before setting them, but might work. Retemper after setting? Maybe it’s worse with high carbon steel, or steel alloys. Well, if you have to weld a new tooth on, that will temper it for sure.
I've been watching your videos on tik tok and found your channel on TH-cam July 2023
I’m gonna be honest here there are a small handful of restoration channels that I really like and this is one of em you guys have spoiled me rotten with the way you make your videos 10/10 keep going 👍👍
Well that was pretty neat
I love how spiffy the machine looks after cleaning and restoration. Great video.
Never send a Man to do a Machinest's Job! It so amazes me. This one is exemplary!
Great craftsmanship. I could watch this all day.
Thanks man, iam glad you like it!
Awesom and best work and produkt, bravo and respectful...!

Painstaking filing and sanding
I am very glad that you restored this beautiful work of mechanical history and boy you did a great job 👏🏼 🫡
Thanks a lot! :-)
Pretty darn cool. You guys always do the coolest tools that i didnt even know existed lol
What a lovely restoration. Your filming of this was so clear and you could see everything. Storytelling was spot on too, Mr. P. Thanks for sharing this.♥
When Vickie enjoyed the video, it was a good day 🙂
@@misterpatina What a sweet thing to say! Hugs to you & the fam.
Das ist ein Bandsägen-Schrenkapparat.So einen suche ich auch schon länger. Muss aber nicht so toll restauriert sein.Tolle Arbeit.
Amazing restoration 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
Thanks!
Such a sweet job👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍
Thank you so much!
Just FYI. Coldblueing doesn't give that much rust protection on its own, as much as it creates porous surface which allows for oil retainment, hence oil bath is recommended. If you don't believe random comment warrior, here's a snippet from wiki: "Black oxide provides minimal protection against corrosion, unless also treated with a water-displacing oil to reduce wetting and galvanic action"
Random comment warrior 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the information. I knew this, and iam also putting all of my parts in oil for 12-24 hours, after that drying for 12 hours, and then I just dry them with a paper towel.
But showing every step would make it hard to watch…hope you understand, Mr. Warrior 😄
@@misterpatina Oh, glad to hear that. All the blued parts looked so clean and non greasy in the shots, that I assumed there's no way they were in oil, hah :P
...perfect restoration!!
Thanks!
we enjoy your videos they;re magick . thank you
Thanks for watching!
Lovely restoration. Got a whole lot of my grandfathers saws and this vid motivates me to clean, sharpen and restore back into a usable condition. Hope to be able to pass them onto my nieces and nephews - great job

Thanks George! Iam glad you like it!
😮 This is a very Cool machine. I don't believe I've ever seen a Tooth Setter before. Its Always a Great Day and Job the way you do all this rework to make it work like new so that we may see it work. Thank you for sharing.😊 I Love it

A useful tool before, a thing of beauty now👍
Imagine thinking this up and drawing it on up a drafting table before computers.
Yep awesome just like the first video of yours I watched !! Your attention to detail is amazing !! I love how it works !! Outstanding work on a wonderful machine !!
Thank you so much Robert! I really appreciate!
Was out of town and am.just now seeing this! How wonderful!
Glad you like it :-)
MASTERPIECE!
:-)
That was fantastic!!! On two fronts 👉👉👉. First, it's always so rewarding to watch your work Mr. Patina dude. You always do such a lovely job if it 👏👏👏. Second, it's so interesting and pleasing to see the inner workings of a very complex little piece of kit that performs a fairly simple task. Most folk would just break out the pliers. But someone somewhere at sometime put the thought into this a machine. Brilliant 👊👊👊. Thanks man. Lots 🙏🙏🙏. 😎
Love your videos, happy to see one today.
Glad you like them!
this is a gooden man! great watch

🎉😮. Mis respetos, señor!! Saludos desde Irapuato, Gto - MÉXICO.
Re-made better than when it was new - stunning!
Awesome job Mister P!

So cool!
I don't even have a saw, but I want one of these!

Beautiful work Brother.
You are definitely a master of your craft.
Great job.
Take care,

Thank you so much Jonny!
it's an amazing tool I've never seen before. I wish you spent some time explaining (showing) how the settings work?
Like where do you set the distance in between the teeth and how does the mechanism do it.
It's difficult to understand everything from the fleeting images of details.
But overall great job, thank you for the video!
Thank you so much! Since youre not the first person asking, iam thinking about doing a video on my second channel.
جدا
It looks new again and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
Enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
