Fell in love with her in 1979,as millions of teen aged boys did,on Sooner or Later. Many must have wanted them to make a series out of that movie,or at least a sequel,to find out how the couple turned out!

I posted this elsewhere, but I must post it again. She so reminds me of the girl I should have dated in high school had my parents not moved several states away. Sadly, both she and I lost contact until a year ago, and while we are not together living happily ever after, we've both married decent people after failed first marriages each and have developed a very close friendship.
The funniest part is she lived a few blocks away from me when we were kids, and it was the one street I was not allowed to go on! My mother was a control freak!
The funniest part was she moved into my neighborhood the year before my parents moved, and this woman has the exact same birthday I do. What's even funnier is she and my wife have become best friends.
We haven't stopped laughing since we reconnected. My father jokingly calls her my "girlfriend," and my best friend calls her my "other wife." I joked with her when we first reconnected that had my parents not moved, she and I would have ended up at the senior prom together. When we had breakfast with her and her husband, it was after our birthdays. I gave her a corsage and said, "It's a little late, but do you want to go to the prom?" Everyone laughed.
She even said her mother and mine would have had us married. We both call each other "the one who got away" but in a happy way and not regrettable.

Good looking, cute figure, well spoken, bubbly personality, I thought she had all the tools for a long post ABP career, especially since she was only 19 here. After that ended she had an amazing guest gig on Knight Rider. Then she went MIA. Her next significant role wasn't until she reunited with CoC on a dark episode of In the Heat of the Night as an addicted young mother. It was far from the smart, centered Billie Bunker character. Into the 90s she had solid one off roles on Murder She Wrote and Diagnosis, Murder unfortunately there just weren't nearly enough of them to get her back into the spotlight. Her last real chance at the brass ring was Platypus Man but sadly the plug was pulled after only 13 episodes.

I miss the days when young women were cute and classy like Denise was. Today a girl would do the interview in ripped jeans and a barely there top showing off her tattoos. After her Archie run ended she went almost MIA. There were fewer options outside of network TV in those days. Too bad there weren't Hallmark/ Lifetime movies in the 80s & 90s. Many former child actresses that came along a decade later and not anymore talented than Denise extended their careers going that route after their prime time series days ended.

As young & talented as they were, I figured each would be a force to be reckoned with for a long time. But neither had the massive success I expected and within a year it was like both of these bombshells had dropped off the face of the Earth. Over the next 20 years they would periodically pop up attempting comebacks using various mediums, but sadly nothing provided the prolonged punch they needed to get back into the public eye anywhere near the level they achieved on Archie. I wonder if they had to fight typecasting?

I think a great spin off for Archie Bunker's Place, after that show was cancelled (which it should not have been) would have been called "Billie and Steffie", featuring Archie's two nieces living in Archie's house while making it together in New York. Archie, who moved upstate to be closer to Gloria and Joey, would still be the owner of both the house and Archie Bunker's Place, and would make periodic appearances in the show. Billie would be attending college while managing the bar-restaurant, and Steffie would be working at the bar-restaurant while attending acting school in Manhattan. The same background characters from Archie Bunker's Place would be kept, and Billie's ex-boy friend but still good friend Gary Rabinowitz would help her manage the bar-restaurant while still working as a lawyer. Too bad this never materialized. Denise Miller was a great actress.

With regard to Gloria, I am not sure about this, but I thought I heard that Carroll O'Connor got a bit miffed when Sally Struthers wanted to completely separate her show from AITF/ABP, not even making any references to her role in that show.

CoC was actually developing a spin off series focused on Billie and Gary when ABP was canceled. I don't know what the plans were for Stephanie, who was one of the most disliked characters in TV history, but whether those three could have carried a series w/o CoC we'll never know, but I have my doubts if CBS would have stood behind it. The new CBS leadership at that time seemed to be done with anything Archie.

Never would've worked. Most diehard AITF fans felt the show jumped the shark when Stephanie joined in 1978 so they were long checked out by the time Billie came onboard. And at this point there was a lot of Archie fatigue. Even the return of Gloria wasn't well received. I know at the time Danielle Brisebois talked about joining Gloria if ABP was ever cancelled. But that became moot when CoC had a falling out over the series which was soon cancelled itself.

One very late night (actually about 3 am central time), I was walking through the Dallas Fort Worth Airport, down about a quarter mile stretch of empty hallway, with only one other human form headed toward me, walking the opposite direction. I immediately recognized comedian Jay Leno (although he wasn't as well known yet, as it was still only 1982, and most of us knew his face from his occasionally filling in for Johnny Carson on the Carson show.) He was holding his head down trying to hide his most recognizable feature, as I passed by saying only, 'Jay Leno.' He kept his head down and looked away without so much as a nod of hello to a fellow human. I vowed never, ever to appear on his show should that opportunity ever arise. Thus far, I've kept my word...

She says 13 when she made sooner or later but unless wiki has her birth year wrong I calculated Rex smith at 24and her at 17 in 1979 when Sooner or later aired. Could take a year off for production time. But Rex smith was born same year as me 1955. Which made me 24in 1979. I was 18 in 73 when I graduated high school.
