FIXING MY VAN MYSELF TO SAVE HASSLE

- I've spent so much longer thinking about what to do with my Caddy than I have done actually getting off my backside and fixing it!
Back in January I was involved in a car accident while heading into town. In the grand scheme of things it's definitely just an exchange of metal, but despite initially badgering me not to go through my insurance, the other party did just that...and went through his insurance.
It left me scratching my head - do I make a claim through my own policy and hope that the other party admits liability, which would definitely result in the van being written off. Or, do I take a leap of faith and attempt to rebuild it myself. Lets be honest, I think the decision was made weeks ago!
The trickiest thing about this has been finding replacement parts. But, eventually, I managed to find a bonnet, a wing and a door...plus a few other bits which weren't strictly necessary. I'm no mechanic, usually I'm quite happy walking away and leaving someone who knows what they're doing to take care of problems. But seeing as I don't need the Caddy for day to day life, it gives me a little bit of scope to finally learn how to do some basic repairs for myself. So, I've done just that.
Longer term the plan is to get the van running 100% and make a few internal modifications to make exploring Scotland in my day van a little bit easier, but for now I'll settle for removing the worst of the accident damage. Hopefully, if I can get it through an MOT test in June then we can jump on the ferry and visit the Shetland islands, even though I really don't have sea legs!

Clearly still lots to do, but I forgot to say in the video I've been priced £400 to spray the driver's side of the van and repair the damage to the sill. So hopefully it'll be back to plain old one colour at some point soon 😂
Good chance to roller paint it in olive green or something… what I planned on doing to the focus as it’s not worth respraying it
@@Dondy86 funny you should say that!
Doing a great job so far with the van .Love your videos. Great mix of humour along with showing off a bit of the North East
Ta very much, glad you enjoy them 😊
Definitely go for the Harlequin scheme. Well done 😊
Thanks - its tempting 😂
Done a grand job there, remember the roof rails where loving delivered to you😂 stealth camping sounds like night out in the lorrry, but i do get a night heater for when it's chilly!
Expert delivery, would recommend. 5 stars 👍😆
When seeing the thumbnail I was already thinking you're trrying to create a Harlequinn Caddy. But perhabs an idea with some wrapping foil. But that's probably the opposite of stealth camping when parking in a fancy looking van, hehe. I've seen some people doing crazy stuff on these Caddies ... different engines with lots of power, etc. It's a very underestimated van when seeing all the stuff you can do with it.
Haha it was kind of accidental!
I rebuild cat cars for a living, you’ve not done bad at all mate. I’d of just got them in the same colour eBay job find a breaker pick the parts up wack them on and done no need for paint also good for tools on there! Another good place for tools is them pawn shops cash converters and the like you find tools worth a lot of money for very very cheap in there. Get a 2 stage can of Matt black around £15-£25 and do front bumper yourself easy as no primer required and it’ll stay looking smart especially if you put some ceramic coating on it, do trims and mirrors same time maybe even get 2 and go over wheels👍usually the cheapest solutions are the best but obviously sometimes time consuming but yes nice job bud
Thanks so much, I've never changed a panel before let alone three so felt incredibly rewarding.
For some reason finding panels just now seems like needle and haystack territory. Was just glad to get the panels I needed.panel gaps looks ok too so all in a result!
I was half tempted to get some raptor on the bumpers and trim but I think your suggestion is going to work out a load cheaper!
New sub! Great video fella 👍
Thanks very much - it'll get there, slowly but surely!
