I have had bad luck with those type of fittings, you should take the lines to a hydraulic shop and get one piece lines fabricated, its not too expensive and the peace of mind of knowing your oil is in the system is priceless. Great job and congrats on the first start! So stoked for you!
He created his own misfortune by not understanding how the hoses are assembled and installed. Once you understand - AND FOLLOW - the proper steps to making AN lines and hoses, they are not that hard to assemble correctly and are superior to most, if not all, crimped style hoses.
@@willieshaw2522 that's what I was going to say. AN fittings should be done like this: first, the female part needs to be fully seated on the end on the hose. Then secure it on a vice and thread the male part WITHOUT moving the female. Thay way you ensure the hose is perfectly seated onto the fitting, and there is no change for it to pop out
Early evening in Sunderland UK, realising the Kona bus journey is coming to an end soon 😢 have absolutely loved watching you and Lori and the journey you both have endured getting this beautiful bus reborn. Mitch you’ve had me in tears of sorrow and tears of joy, it’s been emotional, this was another great video guys 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😘 Paul
Hello & good morning from Irvine, Southern California, Mike, Lori, & most especially, our awesome Lady Kona!! Kona, we all love you so much! Mike & Lori, you both are such true heroes for rescuing Lady Kona, restoring Her, & bringing Her back to life!! We love you all so much!!
Yet another amazing video , so many twists and turns , with the oils hoses, but glad you got there in the end , and the engine sounds awesome, we are both looking forward to the next episode
So great to hear her running. It’s weird how invested I feel in this especially since I know it happened in the past. I find with my old vdubs it’s always one step forward two steps back, but the lessons we learn from our mistakes stay with us don’t they Mitch🙂
Mitch, congratulations on getting the bus fired up! I was excited to watch this episode. You and Lori are a great team and the years that you've been working on this, sleeping in a van, spending time away from your family, struggling to get things done and covering all the expenses, yikes what work; but it was really worth it. To see the engine fire up and watch your reaction really demonstrates the level of commitment that you two have. Wow, it was a great episode. I'm excited to see more. So when you don't want to edit yet another video, just remember your audience loves them. I happy for you guys.
Thursday #konathebus?? Yes please, great treat for mid week. Building projects like this will always have weird things pop up, glad you got it all handled and so very excited to see you get it driving. Much love from Texas
Might want to install a neutral safety switch along with a remote start switch in the engine compartment. I’ve watched all 78 episodes and congrats on a beautiful journey. I’m also building a 21 deluxe walk through, a single cab, and a 64 beetle. You’ve been a great inspiration! Thank you
What a beautiful place, 💕 just luvd all the drone shots, everything so healthy and lush, sad for you after all that work oil leaks, that's how we learn, sooo 😊 good to see you doing your final things on the list, have fun 😁 God bless 🙏
Good morning from Colorado....WOW! A lot of popped up incident and now you got everything fixed up before it happens at Hawaii!!!! Whew!! Blessing to have your family's garage! Now peace of mind and cross your fingers. I can't wait for the next episode.
What a shame 2 oil leaks. You always get some problems with new builds, but comes good in the end, well done for not getting to stressed, great video Mitch and Lori, hope you are both well
I've seen all of Kona's videos and I'm really happy that the engine is finally running. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos and the time you put into this project. My utmost respect for your endurance and dedication to your T1.
The important thing is that you fix your own van if there is a problem. It’s the learning process. Basically it’s the journey not the destination. Great job buddy.
Well it’s alive. Great job. I wasn’t expecting that minor set back. But, all Lines have been corrected and new ignition installed and it starts and runs. Bring on 79 possibly a test drive. Way to go.
A long and winding road. Fascinating to watch this go from old and rusted to new and hotness. Got to wonder what % of original steel actually survives in these beautiful bones. Hope you continue to show Kona cruising around in Hawaii.
NICE TO SEE HOW MUCH EFFORT & WORK & TIME IS INVESTED. I'M EVERY TIME HAPPY TO SEE A NEW VIDEO ABOUT YOU & THE GREAT VW T1 PROJECT ..THANK YOU SO MUCH 🔧🛠️🪛⚙️🔩
Evening from Essex, UK 🇬🇧 Another great episode! Like most folks here, it is a little sad that the build is coming to an end… BUT… looking forward to hopefully coming along for adventures with you in Kona for many years to come! Cant wait for the next episode! PS… who has a plane in their garden?? 😂❤🤙
Hi, been following Kona's (and your) journey for a long time now. All the work, and this destination ended up in Whatcom County where I live. Such a fun coincidence!
Great job with the bus the axle boots may have been on a shelf for years before you got them and had dried up before being installed and after getting installed they started to let go and break apart the oil lines need to be assembled correctly or they will not hold but if done correctly they are good even for fighter jets which is way more stressful than you bus will ever put on them
looking good so far...c'mon where is episode 79❓things are gradually starting to move forward...wonderful just to follow....it gets more exciting and exciting 😊👍
however long you think you need to take on a new build by now you know its twice as long,so give your self more time. running an engine without oil even for a short time is worrying one looking for leaks one to switch off at first shout....we in the UK got mostly stick shift and pullaway on hill starts look after the bus it looks great
always look forward to a new video, and I re-watch them a few times just incase I missed something or just to watch them over again. have been watching since the old burgman days , and have mentioned in past that you were an influence for me to purchase a burgman 650 executive which I still ride and use those videos to help maintain my ride since 2014.
Bonjour je regarde vos vidéos depuis le début de la restoration qui me fait plaisir de regarger je voudrais savoir quand votre véhicule sera terminer j'ai hâte de le voir fini. merci a bientôt . Regis de FRANCE
Get rid of all thoughs fittings, take the lines to a hydrolic place and have them make proper lines. Its cheaper than you spent on the crap you have and will be reliable!
Primo Loaf. What a ton of work. Well done and thank you for sharing your journey. The axle boots may have torn from the axle tubes hanging down during disassembly. Concerned about the oil hose routing next to the exhaust, the type of hose, and the fittings. Did you check the transaxle oil level?
I sure hope you get a enjoyable experience from driving this Van equal to the work you put in it. I had the Vans and bugs back in the 60"s miserable slow and cold
Love your vids and your incredible attention to detail.... to the absurd! I realize you're providing a public service and "how to" for others interested in doing the same.... however, your time and attention to this vehicle borders on annal! How can you take it out in the real world? Rain, sleet, snow, mud, thrown rocks on highway, dents in parking lots, crashes, theft, etc! This is now best suited for a museum piece. Call VW in Germany and send them your vid links. Tell them you want $2 million and a reasonable replacement vehicle. they need this for a show car in the dealerships around the world. Don't put this precious creation out amongst the great unwashed! You've created a piece of art... and better yet, you've got the vids to document every painstaken minute of your creation!
When you started the engine up and the oil was gushing out and the engine wouldn't shut off, I was scared! Is it okay? I am not liking those braded hose kits. I think a regular black hose would work better with a hydrolic hose fitting.
Great work o nthe van. Im surprised you did not rust preventative spray wax / oil in the cavities before installing the belly pans just for good measure
Hola Mic, buenas noches. Gracias.
Oil hose, even insulated, laying on the exhaust like that? Is the hose rated for that? I'd make me very nervous. Oil leak pumped right onto a hot exhaust = instant car fire.
Great video! A bit nerve wrecking as I watched the oil spill. Glad you got it fixed. I purchased some AN wrenches for building hoses, they won’t scratch up the fittings.
Send a video of you and your VW here!:

Amen , felt so bad for him 😭 when they kept blowing off, one piece would be sweet 😔
34 years making hoses on site ….you’re right ! I only use crimped ends on ptfe stainless hoses 👍🏴
I agree and have had the same trouble with the lines and had hydraulic lines made, they never failed.
He created his own misfortune by not understanding how the hoses are assembled and installed. Once you understand - AND FOLLOW - the proper steps to making AN lines and hoses, they are not that hard to assemble correctly and are superior to most, if not all, crimped style hoses.

I'm getting sad the build series is almost over. I have really enjoyed watching the process, you guys have out done yourselves! Beautiful bus.

I'm glad you had a little cry, it shows how much hard work and dedication you have put into this project. Such a big moment for you. Congrats!!!
Yet another amazing video , so many twists and turns , with the oils hoses, but glad you got there in the end , and the engine sounds awesome, we are both looking forward to the next episode
The countryside there looks beautiful. 😍. I thought you were crying when the engine idled but it was the smoke. 😄
So great to hear her running. It’s weird how invested I feel in this especially since I know it happened in the past.

Rear seat is awesome! Worth the extra effort.
It is looking great and a few teething troubles show us all its a very real project, love your emotional moment at the end ❤
AWESOME !!! Happy for you guys .. Nice to see all of you’s smiling working together !! GOD BLESS 🥰❤️👍👍

Hi, been following Kona's (and your) journey for a long time now. All the work, and this destination ended up in Whatcom County where I live. Such a fun coincidence!
Hopefully the guy who originally sold you Kona is watching to see what became of his old bus!
I still have his number... I texted him and he seems don't care and being cold to me 🤣 I think he is pissed it's not patina anymore or something 😛
Beautiful sound! Love that you were able to finally get Kona up and running!
Thanks!! So stoked!! 😅
Next time... restoring this beautifull Wilton vise =) =)
At last it runs! 😁♥️
Great video as always Mic & Lori - thank you for sharing your Journey!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! More to come!

Place about 3 cloves of garlic in the glove compartment of your car. This helps eliminate envy on your bus.
Interesting, I will try that, thanks
haha

always an awesome feeling to get it running well. Who's Fuel Injection systems is this?
15 minutes inhaling engine smoke could put you to sleep for ever!!
It's a live! Unbelievable how often you have to take things apart over and over again...
Yeah! So crazy!
Hi Mic ya casi finaliza de arrancar tu Kona. Ya te quiero ver viajando. Exitos 🇻🇪😀
Hi Mic greeting from Italy, I can't wait to sse Kuna on the road !
That rubber drive boot may have been unused, and cracked, but it was made in West Germany, making it over 30 years old.
Great video! A bit nerve wrecking as I watched the oil spill. Glad you got it fixed. I purchased some AN wrenches for building hoses, they won’t scratch up the fittings.
The boot said "Made in West Germany" at 14:11. It might be "new" but 35 years old.
That airplane Ill bet was made In Lock Haven, Pa. 25 minutes from me.
In the wind soon....coooL.
Fixed lines ?
