I have no idea why they would do this. in games you can enlarge the models indefinitely because it doesn't increase the polygon count. For instance in fallout or skyrim the player can use console commands to shrink or grow the models for fun without dropping a single frame. Game freak clearly didn't want any one to have fun.
Of course Wailord isn't scaled in this game, because Gamefreak's entire budget went into animating Cinderace's move Pyro ball.

@@DrDrao By far more competent people. That's the catch.
@@Sera-F1nnI don't think game freak are incompetent. I think it's more that they don't care. As long as the games sell, they don't want to improve them. In fact, the better games are, the harder it is to improve them. Thus, they keep games mediocre and improve flimsy aspects of the game while getting rid of others. This makes it easy to sell the newer title while preventing the older ones from becoming obsolete.
This one has mega evolutions, this one has z moves, this one has Pokemon that follow you, etc.
They aren't trying to make good games. They're trying to create mediocre ones. Because, if they created a truly perfect Pokemon game, where do they go from there? They can't make a better game, so their next ones won't sell as well. They made a more modern, better game, so their previous titles won't sell as well.
They have a chicken that lays golden eggs, and they will milk it for every last one, even if the games suffer as a result. Because the games are never truly bad, people still buy them. Because they're never perfect, people buy their other games as well. As a plus, they don't have to work as hard.
@@DrDrao It really is the worst outcome possible for a video-game franchise.

1. A less powerful console
2.Less of a budget
3. Less members than Gamefreak
Yet they made a better 3D games than Gamefreak could ever do on a console.
If pokemon had kept their regional dex small like, for example, 151, they would have had more time to polish everything out. Unfortunately they dug themselves a hole and the strict requirements and deadlines they put in this unstable franchise is only making it worse. Honestly I feel sad for gamefreak. They could have done so much if they have done less.
@@Ka-Ping the problem is not that we have too many Pokémon, it's that Game Freak doesn't have enough animators because they are really cheap. They try to make the game as cheaply as possible, people are gonna buy it anyways.
@@Ka-Ping Pokemon is the most lucrative franchise in the entire world, if GF are struggling with the workload then they need to hire more animators. Not just the scaling, but did anyone else notice how sweet those camera angles and movements were? How it shook and moved? THAT is the tragedy: the loss of good camera work.
I pray one day that maybe Nintendo will step in a little more and take a hold of the reigns in order for GameFreak to get it together. Not likely, but one can dream.
That's what modern mainline Pokemon games really need: more dynamic camera work. As it stands now it looks like they just took a battle from the 2D games and upscaled it to 3D. At least have the camera pan in front of my Scorbunny when it attacks so I can see the expressions on its face!
Agreed, I like how the cameras used to actually be fixed to target the Pokémon at some points, other times attacks like Thunder zoomed in real close before zooming back to show the animation.

Sadly, that will probably never happen as long as Pokemon games continue to sell gangbusters.
The Let's Go games were a bit controversial before release (not like Sword and Shield, of course), and they sold over 10 million copies in around three months. Sword and Shield have been getting glowing reviews, and will likely do similar numbers (in spite of the divisive fan reception). There's really no incentive for Game Freak to go beyond what they're doing now, when sales continue to be as impressive as they are.
I feel the fanbase deserves better (especially considering what mainline Zelda and Mario games look like on the Switch), but the vast majority of the fanbase doesn't care. They'll buy simply because of brand, and it's not like I can fault them for buying games they enjoy (even if I think we could get even better games).

L S R once again, it wouldn’t be such an issue if they had not used that as an excuse to cut a big amount of content
Not to mention battle tower is a big disappointment , even worse than the battle maison in XY
L S R my guess is:
- Multitasking : they had just made Let’s go on Switch 1 year ago. Also while they were developing SwSh, they also developed Little Town Hero. They snapped their team into halves to work on both project
- Poor customer service: When they first announced about Dexit and the fans said that they reused the animations, they did not have any official saying about that, just a few vague statements that only made the situation worse. On top of that, the Japanese fandom did not know a single thing about Dexit because they hid that completely. When the Japanese fans found out they had been lied to, you can imagine they were really pissed
L S R Some says Game Freak is lazy, but I think their laziness comes from the multitasking thing. The game also looks like they had to run against the clock
The best part of sword and shield for me is people are talking about Colosseum again.
All battles being double battles would help make the game more challenging by having the AI take advantage of synergy of Pokemon in doubles, as well as slowing down the exp gain and giving weaker Pokemon who need partners to shine a better chance of being used on a team.

I’m also annoyed at how many clothing options are gender specific, like cause I chose the male character I can’t have longer hair? I can’t wear a skirt? It’s dumb. And of corse there’s also difficulty and character problems. Mainly with the rival hop. He’s just an annoyance and makes me want to punch him in the face every time I see him. There’s also a huge problem with the story no one asked for being forcibly shoved down your throat. And back to the graphics, Pokémon no longer run up to attack, Pokémon no longer have expressive idle and taking damage animations. Pokémon now have a much more limited pool of attacking animations (usually only having two). It’s just so sad seeing how much better the graphics were years ago.

Wailord: I am the biggest pokemon
Gamefreak: Yes but no.
Now, at first, I thought: “Oh, the Pokémon not being big enough isn’t that big of a problem, just a minor issue”
But now
*Yikes*
No; I _still_ think that to this day. This is nitpicky bullshit that distracts from the fact that *_the GTS is gone._* i'm only completing my Pokedex through the blessing of random chance because of this. It shouldn't frigging be like that...!
_Where is my frigging Stonjourner, Surprise Trade?!_

@@Blackheartzero taking out the GTS really was a mistake and dumb but discord for Pokemon trading really helps
I wasn't expecting wailord to be the size of a damn car, Raihan is probably bigger than wailord
@@pauldeddens5349 Cars are way bigger than that.
I've never been so huge on scaling, but damn man.. you could just FEEL the intimidation and lively presence in his size and scale from COLLISEUM ALONE. It makes the Pokemin feel so much more real and lively.
Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/ Eevee managed to scale pokemon correctly.
Why not here?
While I support swsh and (most) of gamefreak's decisions, I agree, whalord looked more intimidating than garados
Wailord: *dynamaxes*
Me: "hey look, he's normal size" 🙂
he would be the size of a small moon if he was scaled correctly.
People laughed at me when I said we need another battle revolution. “But Pokémon’s already on a home console” they said.
Look at us now
Pokemon S&S: Wailord has dynamaxed.
Me: B***h that's it's normal size!
I miss Colosseum.😩

Damn, Battle Revolution was so cool.
The voice acting, the animations, the trainer customization, the online functionality, and all those days spent batting strangers. I genuinely miss that game.
Hmm....gee it’s almost like whenever a developer other than game freak makes a Pokémon game, they know exactly what they’re doing and how to handle it! XD
"It just works!" god Howard let them borrow his motto lol
@@darkfire4206 king krimson
fr fuck gamefreak and especially masuda with that smirk like he doesn't give 2 shits about these games, only the paycheck
Fermiparadox You’re fucking joking bro.
@Higgs Bonbon It's even worse when you realize that Genius Sonority was a team of only around 20~30 people, and made both Colosseum games on a very low budget.
It's clear to see that we need Genius Sonority to make the pokemon games
We really need them,Game Freak is either incompetent or they simply doesn’t care anymore about pokemon and just want to make the most money with the minimal effort, the sad part is that they even succeeded in Sw/Sh since they sell more then 6M copy. Many fans even rewards them for being lazy(me included but after the gen 4 remakes if they don’t improve their game and stop being a soulless money hungry company,I will leave them too).
@@Gimas96 The footage they released of the remakes show us that they wont be improving anything. The battle animations are the same lifeless and lazy animations from 8 years ago.
Wailord: Float Whale pokemon
Genius Sonority: here's a blue blimp
Gamefreak: *blows up a skinny blue balloon* good enough
Can we also talk about how Wailord barely moves at all in the newer games while it actually looked alive in XD and especially Battle Revolution?
From the front, it just looks like a blue tube
That's true of most mons
You could put it in the air, call it a zeppelin and no one would know the difference.
Look, BR was just ahead of its time
Wailord: *Is tiny*
Wailord! Gigantamax!
Wailord: Oh cool, I'm normal size again. Wait, they get to be this big too now?!
Except, Gigantamax Mr. Rime is bigger than Gigantamax Wailord.
Dynamax. Still insulting Wailord doesn't even have a Gmax form.
"Giant pokemon sure make this collesium look tiny"
Gamefreak: don't write that down
Why is Wailord also so still and lifeless compared to the other games?
I get that whales are known have very slow movement sometimes but Colosseum had a way better idle animation.
Combined with it's size, SW/SH Wailord looks like an inflatable pool float you find in the clearance section at Walmart
Gamefreak: its called effort...I mean wailord isn't trying its not like we didn't put in any effort!
@@TheAngelOfTheBottomlessPit yup they see how other companies got away with putting no effort into there games and selling so much while making a lot of money even though fans complained and they did next to nothing to fix it. So if it ain't broke don't fix it, since it works for them they can do it too. Especially since there games and franchise is one of if not number one game franchise and very mainstream so they have more chance to make the money. It makes me wish I had a big voice with like 5 to 10 million subs on yt or other social media and part of a community that would listen to me and tell there fans the same. I wouldn't ask for a full out boycott, I would ask just for everyone to wait a few days or a week at most then buy the game if they really want to as I wouldn't try to force people not to get something they like just cause I have my own opinion. If they did wait a week(which from what has been seen with anthem and fallout76 3 days might be enough) then the company would get scared and drop the price in half then get the game. If that's done to one or two games/gens, then the investors would get scared and pressure Gamefreak to wither step there game up or put someone else who cares to work on the games. As they would keep making half the money they expected since the games would drop half the price til they realize people won't keep buying them day one til they start putting effort in and fix there mistakes. There would be a boycott but they would also still sell the units they need to justify making the next game so its not like a full boycott and they can say something like the game didn't sell at all so we will stop the series. Sorry for the long reply I just figured this was a good point and I had a hard time to find the words for it with as few words as possible to explain it.
“We cut the dex to make the animations more lively!”
@@thegrandtickler2907 Said GameFreak to make an excuse to the die-hard Pokémon fans
Hate saying this but at this point they should've dexited wailord
U wot m8
Agree. It's an insult for Wailord to be included in this generation
They shouldn't have made him this smol boi. :(
Come on, i tried having 6 Wailords in camp and it was the biggest laugh i had in weeks
i mean, there isn't even oceans on Galar. It does not make sense for Wailmer to appear on a goddamn lake
My question for SwSh is WHY DOES THE CAMERA ZOOMS OUT THAT MUCH IF THE POKEMON ARE TINY AF
right? and they are like 2 feet away from each other. WTF!?
Same for gen 6 to 7
Conspiracy theory: GF planned for Wailord to be bigger, so they accounted for it with the zoom, but they screwed up the scaling of the model so now it looks dumb
The camera battle is just another in a long list of problems this game has.
Because the camera angle are the same for dynamax and normal battles! Or you think that gf will create angles for two situations?
My favorite part about the Genius Sonority games was that every character had an incomprehensibly weird name
It's slightly less weird if you imagine every Cipher Peon is going by their last name and--ok never mind, I'm wrong, kid me was dumb.
Mr. Rime looks like a 2 star yugioh monster.
I kinda love him and I dislike most Pokémon this Gen., he looks like such a jolly troll, but this comment killed me

And Galarian Mr. MIme looks like a FNAF character. Makes you appreciate the originals more.
@@Fang1st yeah why TF did they give him ice typing it makes no sense
I summon mr. Rime in attack mode
They really should have scaled the models better. Especially in battles. They really dont have a good excuse on this one.
They don't have an excuse for any of these shortcomings. Most profitable media franchise ever! But god forbid we want new animations for the third of the roster we're getting.
@@Aetherrreal And most people defending it will be like. It doesnt matter cuz its not a game breaking bug and I'll have fun. But the thing is when did blatant inconsistencies in scaling and breaking of immersion become fine all of a sudden? Wailord being that small totally takes me out of the experience and breaks my immersion along with any other size or animation inconsistencies. World Building and immersion is such a big part of pokemon and since limited hardware (in which we had to use our imaginations more than anything) is no longer an issue, why is this still happening? ESPECIALLY when a gamecube game scales all the pokemon better than gamefreak would.
They don't have ANY excuse for ANY shortcomings of the game.
Hey you need to change your name to Pokémon will never be good again! Because fire emblem is fine now.

Land of the Giants. 😂
the idle animations on those older games are much more expressive and alive, quite literally everything about them is more dynamic, the characters look odd but the Pokemon look better and that's honestly depressing.
Some sprites like Metagross, Blastoise, Typhlosion, Arbok, Dragonite, and Politoed looked great for Gen 3 while sprites like Ursaring, Tyranitar, Salamence, Slowking, Feraligatr (Especially) look awful at least for Gen 3
@@PeruvianPotato well, all the non-gen 3 pokemon use ported models in Coliseum, so that's probably why some models look off (I am a particular fan of the nonsensical spinning square shadows under Jumpluff).
You gotta keep in mind those old games not only had like 80 Pokemon in them, but were also much more based around the battles themselves so less resources had to be spent on the overworld.
