Hey guys! We worked really hard on this DIY Tortoise House I hope you all enjoy watching! and if you do need help building one similar I hope this video helps you! We worked really hard and I know blue will love his new huge tortoise house!

Christina Garces wait for a reptile expo in the area or priority mail one from online, I waited for an expo and would recommend making outdoor enclosures because you cannot replicate the benefits of pure sunlight

Nice! I found a bookshelf on Craigslist for free, took the flimsy back off, replaced it with plywood, bought a 2x2 and cut 2 pieces to go across the top, drilled a 10 gallon aquarium lid to the 2x2's for the heat bulb to sit on, and used the shelf pieces to make a hide. Cost me like $25! Woo-hoo. Most of my top isn't covered bc I only have box turtles and use sphagnum moss to keep them humid. I should definitely go over it with safe paint though, good idea.

This has finally given me an idea for a tortoise table for my hermann tortoise, Franklin! He’s a little over 2 years old (almost the same age as yours I think) and I think he’s about the same size as yours as well. He desperately needs to get out of his 40-60ish gallon tank and we just haven’t been able to get anything else that’s appropriate for him! I feel so so terrible for keeping him in that tank, so I hope he’ll really like the table once I’m done with it!

Just a suggestion i bought safe no toxins stick on flooring it has worked great . sealed any spaces with silicone. So far so good with it and my hermans really like how i can keep their enclosure table nice and humid . And i dont have to worry about the wood going bad like the past.

It turned out incredible and well done to both of you! 👏🏼 👏🏼 Watching this video (especially the hardware store / building part) brought back NOT so fond memories of building my DIY cage last year. Hahaha! 😂 It's TONS of work to do this type of thing, but so worth it in the end! It's so pretty and will be fun to see the substrate and decor added next, and then Blue's reaction!

Just an idea putting ceramic tile down on the bottom of the enclosure would make it moisture resistant?
What kind of wood was it you used? Pine? Did you seal it or no? Pressure treated or no?

What kind of paint did you use?
I started building same ones, but mistake I or you did was buying lumber from Lowes. There is a size difference, unless we measure. If we go by the label or bar code that's it. I have to spend additional $30 to buy such lumber. And they have cuts limit per customer. I don't like going to Lowes, since you guys bought everything from there, thought of finding them easy. Many thanks for the idea.
Did you have to put any sealants on the wood to prevent mold? Wondering because my husband and I want a tortoise in the future
Samantha Thompson non pressure treated only, it would need rebuilding if it molded but most tortoises can’t handle high moisture like that.
My apartment doesn't have room for an enclosure that big. My russian tortoise is about 5.5in long and 4.5 in wide and in desperate need of an upgrade from his hatchling tank; would a 4ftX2ft enclosure be big enough for him?

Is this cage a good size for a full grown Hermann's tortoise or just a juvenile? I a toying with the idea of getting a tortoise in the future (after a lot of research of course) and I was wondering how much space I would need for a grown male Hermann's tortoise. Love your videos :)
Caroline Erickson this cage is fine for a 6in or smaller adult but the majority of Easterns esp female get up to 8in. So it all depends on the tortoise. The majority are bigger then 6in as adults so you would have to make the house a couple feet larger! But the design would be fine!

Join the tortoise forum! They have so much good info and bare minimum is 8×4 foot enclosure. They love to wander and walk around. Hope this helps a little. :)

I’ve never seen one in a store that is big enough or suitable. One inch of tortoise equals one foot of living space minimum.

You didnt seal the wood? Arent you worried about it rotting out if any liquids get through?

What is the smallest cage you can get for a adult turtle please answer asap
When housing an animal you should ask what is the “smallest” option. Always think big. Bigger is always better. And I don’t recommend turtles or tortoise for anyone under 18. Unless they can provide very large indoor and outdoor enclosures. :) at least 3ftx6ft. In size. Turtles get very large and need large tanks 75/150 gallons as adults depending on size. I don’t recommend them.

I designed it, I did the dimensions & I painted it. So yes- we.
I have Russian's which requires 4x8 feet minimum so I will have to modify this design to be the proper size when I build a new enclosure. I also prefer a tighter nit wire, smaller holes keep the majority of bugs out. I live in the south, waterbugs get in the cleanest homes, nasty suckers, some of which FLY. Imagine the biggest cockroach you ever saw...and put wings on it. Not in MY enclosure.
