I'm so glad you're showing people how to use positivity to teach. I get upset when I see videos of people laughing while a cat in a harness falls over. That's obviously not pleasant for the cat.

It can be normal at first for a cat to fall a bit as they aren't used to it, especially if you start when they are very young. However, it shouldn't be anything too bad and it's more if an awkward movement.

It's funny and it doesn't hurt them. If it's not for more than a few seconds and you're actually trying to get the cat to like the harness, it's hilarious. And I love cats. I apologize when I do anything to them. All they're doing is flopping over.

Hi! My white Angora Cat walks on leash since 7 years (first with 7 months). We walk every day because i can't let him out alone. He even jumps on trees and we swing on the hollywood swing in the green yard. 🤣 There is a bit dog in him. It never bothered him. He's always considered as a dog. Greets from Berlin

Great review video. My elderly gentleman cat learned to harness walk at 8 years old and still prefers it to his carry crate if we are going short distances to the vet. He's very chill personality and is not food motivated, but loves grooming so he got toothbrush grooms on his face and cheeks as his reward - whatever works right?
I use a cloth vest harness attached with Velcro because he's broad across the chest and skinny hipped so I figured webbing harnesses would be backed out of.

CATMANTOO, we rescue 2 adult cats, at 2 different times. Put harness and leash on them (separately), took them to parks/bike trails, had no problems. They walked very well - not like a dog, but great for cats. Don’t know if previous owners trained them, or if they were just grateful to be outside. Both cats (ages 3 and 7) are strictly indoors. We enjoy your videos.

My cat is already fully trained, but I would like to ask, what's your take on doing this with older cats? (from 1 year old and up). I started training my cat when she was 1, and she's perfect on the leash (sometimes she tries to take me in whatever direction she wants, but other than that she's good), but can be extremely frightened of parks/larger open areas. She does great on the beach (we worked on it for a couple of days) but with larger parks (acreages), it's really hard for her to adapt to it, and we've been there several times but she is really frightened and tries to drag me away. She's fine with people and dogs, but its just the open space that scares her and she is not food motivated AT ALL, nor toy/play motivated so that makes it harder to train her. I have taught her sit, and high five but she will not listen at all when frightened.
Would really like your advice on this!

Hello, That's why I say in the video don't set your cat up to fail, only visit places your cat likes, or take a more systematic approach when introducing your cat to strange places. exposing them in small doses making those experiences positive, and keep doing that many times. most importantly if your cat isn't responding to the lowest levels of exposure, then stop trying there and try a place more suitable for your specific cats tolerance level. If you want to take your skills to the next level, join us on patreon.

The backpack has a loop where I will be able to hook the leash onto as a safety measure. He is doing very good in the house, lots of pets and treats tossed in front of him so he walks to the treat. I had one over the head style and have just purchased an H style harness which he likes much better. It is a slow process so patience is needed.

I’m currently training my cat on a harness. when I put it on the first time *(it was about 11 PM)* she was biting and scratching me, but I managed. And I played with her, gave her treats, and extra attention.
The next day, at lunch time I put it on her and she didn’t really try to bite and scratch me as much, cause she was a bit distracted this time. After she finished her lunch, I immediately brought out her favorite toys, and her jackpot treat. And I played with her, gave her treats, and extra attention.
After that, I waited until her dinner time and I put the harness on her. This time, she didn’t even try to bite or scratch me at all. *(because she realized when it’s on she gets the extra attention lol)* I put it on safely, and this time I put it on longer than usual. I played with her for about probably 30 minutes straight, she was having so much fun that she forgot she even had a harness on. Then, when she was not looking.. I attached the leash and she didn’t seem to notice, I took her to my front yard *(she usually goes there because she loves the outdoors. and there’s trees, grass, and plants.)* she was happily walking around, smelling the plants, and running around a lot.
Then, the next day *(which is today/day 3)* I woke up early *(because she woke me up)* and she wanted to go in the storage room where we keep all of her cat stuff *(Including her harness).* then I just randomly put the harness on her and she didn’t even react at all, she was sitting there purring and it was super easy to put it on. Which was strange because she’s usually super energetic. Anyway, after many successes. I was convinced she needed to move onto the next step. She was comfortable in her harness like it wasn’t even there, she was running around freely with and without the leash attached. Anyway, once again I attached the leash on her. And she didn’t seem to mind at all. So I used the clicker training method to get her moving around as you suggested. And she did great! she was responding positively and coming each time I said “Luna, come here!” then clicked, and gave her the jackpot treat. Anyway, now it’s 12:30 PM as I’m writing this. I’m waiting for the right time to go outside since it’s so hot out. Maybe 3 PM. Wish me luck guys. I think she’ll love it.

      *Backstory:*
I tried walking my one year old cat *(on a leash)* a few months ago, and took her to a park. *(With very little practice, like I just put the leash on b4 going to the park)* At first, she was so scared. She was going under the benches, trying to get back into her cat carrier box, and going very low onto the ground. But then, I tried carrying her and she calmed down a bit. Until she started looking around, and I saw fear in her eyes. *(Then we got kicked out of the park cause pets weren’t allowed lmfao).* Anyway, I also tried taking her with me on a picnic like maybe a week after that. And, she basically wouldn’t get out of her cat carrier box. After minutes of her not getting out, I took her out myself. *(Which I should NOT have done..)* she sat near me in fear, eventually she sat on my lap kind of hugging me, because she was so scared. And then I had to call it a day.

I'm watching this before I get my kitten inshallah (if God wills) I just love the idea of taking a cat on a walk at first I wanted my cat to be a house cat as my previous cat got run over by a car as we live in front of a two way road and I don't want to repeat the same thing so I think taking my cat on walks will help her be able to adventure while being safe

I can't remember how Faith got to be so good on the leash but she is VERY good. I have a pet stroller that she will go to if upset or just tired of walking. It works very well. The poor stroller though is getting worn out.

My little darling baby cat had an operation and for the first time of her life she couldn't get out. This means we had to buy a litter and forbidden her from going out. This was really hard for my baby cute little pumpkin and she screamed at the top of her lungs at the door. So I bought her a leash and a colar, just so she can enjoy going outside a bit but under my supervision so she doesn't hurt herself with the stitches. Weirdly enough I didn't have to do any training, putt the colar on without any difficulties same for the leash. Of course she's not following me, it's more like I follow her but today she got inside a bush and I had to pull on the leash, which she didn't like very much obviously. That's why I watched this video, to be honest I didn't even think about giving her a reward, I'm a dumbass

I could never imagine a day where I would be able to take my cats on a walk. They do what they want when they want and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to change that. They would be horrified to have to walk around with me 😂😂😂😂
