Steve that bridge on Ooh you Make me Feel that bass line along with the horns was FREAKIN FIRE. With a slight touch of Earth Wind and Fire bruh you are FIERCE PLEASE COME TO AMERICA TO PERFORM AND BRING JANE EUGENE.
It is so hard to explain to younger generations that how magical Loose Ends' music was at the time it first came out. The 80s and the early 90s was all about love, dancing, and enjoying life to the fullest. No FB, Insta, Handys, etc. Facebook was the clubs and discos, the parks, the streets. That's it. You wanted to say something to someone you had to go up to them and say it. Not sending a bs text, IM, etc. Lucky I was there and heard music like theirs.
I know its January 2022, now. Im 55, black American from Connecticut. Thank you for putting together one of my favorite groups. Looking forward to seeing LE live next time there in NYC. Thanks to C Macintosh for getting it back together.
Quite honestly...Steve Nichol has always been "that 3rd guy in the group Loose Ends.." ... amazing to hear of the early beginnings of Loose Ends and learning how critical Steve Nichol was in the creation of this group. Such an AMAZING group that has contributed sooooo much to the music of the '80's, '90's and beyond. Not celebrated nearly enough for their innovative approach to production and their emotionally intense and reflective LRYICS. Strong introspective songs that touch on the aspects of male and female relationships...inspirational songs, poetic and pensive...and caribbean-influenced rhythms...electronically driven creations....a truly ONE-OF-A-KIND sound. In my opinion...one of the BEST recording collabortives of ALL TIME.
I appreciate Steve's honesty and maturity. He didn't mention any personal strikes, point any fingers, or place blame on anyone. He simply stated that he, Carl, and Jane has moved to better pastures. Good Luck to Steve with his future projects.
We need to crowd fund a one off reunion gig, they don't have to work together again but it would be great to hear them together. What an interesting guy, didn't know anything about him after all these years.
PLAZEEEZ, ,IDK IF YOU KNOW, BUT LOOSE ENDS WAS THE JOINT IN THE 80', YALL GOTTA KNOW THAT, .IM TALKING EVERVERY,LOL JAM...IN MY HEAD RIGHT NOW IM HEARING....."IS THIS THE PAAART BABAAY,. WOW,WOW WOW,WOW!!!,. .LOL...REALY LOOSE ENDS IS IN MY HEART!, I LOVED THEM, #1 - THRU INFINITY FAN,
Loose Ends is one of my favorite groups of all time,. They came out at a time when I didn't even know that there were black people in the UK. Their music sounded so American that I was thrown off when I first heard them speak on Soul Train back in the 80's and realized they were British. Great music, and Carl McIntosh is highly under rated as a producer. Unsung really needs to do an episode on them and Cameo...and whatever happened to Soul to Soul and Junior.
I live in philly..had no idea these cats recorded and lived here for awhile..had no idea they hung around with philly cats like dexter wansel, grover washington jr (R.I.P) and gamble and huff Wow!!
This is amazing! I had the urge to listen to "Hanging on a string" and upon hearing it I decided to dive deeper. I'm glad to see he's doing well! NEVER knew they were a U.K. trio!
The contrast between Loose Ends UK and US chart success was an indicator to a lot of Black British talent at that time, it suggested success was across the Atlantic not at 'home'. America was like a Mecca in our minds for black creativity and culture. In fact the Black Brits were still conflicted as to where was 'home'. But Loose Ends was on rotation in the community through the sound systems and illegal pirate radio stations, so they were loved more among blacks than the whites. It wasn't until the mid to late 90's that Black Brits were unapologetically Black working class British and looked to onshore mainstream success over any hopes of breaking America. But Loose Ends are pioneers that the nowadays generation should know about.
You better Sang!!! Yaaaas! I just saw them here In Raleigh North Carolina Jane Eugene still got it Omg a Dream come true for me Birthday Present from my kids!❤
Thanks for arranging this interview I was curious as to what some of the members were doing. He was one of my major crushes back then he was extremely sexy.
Yes I would love to see the original members get back together and tour they made some beautiful music in the 80s. I had some of their music on cassettes from the 80s, tomorrow I am going to get the greatest hits on CD!
DETROIT LOVES LOOSE ENDS.... just saw them this summer but it was only Jane neither he or Carl was there and I must admit it just wasn't the same without them
The real Chuckaboo trilogy - used to send me over the moon. Tomorrow/Mr.Bachelor/Just got to have it all… that blend had me dancing for days. Miss them
Nick Martinelli Produced lots of there top hits he also Produced 5 Stars song Let Me Be the One and 52st Streets Tell Me. All the Synthesizers on the songs all played by him go pull him up he's worked with other well known artist also people thought that Carl was playing those Synthesizers no it was Nick. He also used to work for Motown.
My mind was blown about Steve playing keys/over dubs on ‘Don’t Give Me Up’ by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes 😮. I wish the guys asked Steve about the session when Silent Talking (Instrumental) was recorded in Philly. Apparently many top musicians from the local area turned up to listen to the drummer who was something special. Back in the mid to late 90s I had a nice chat with Steve Nichol on Kingly Street (Behind Regent Street) in Westminster, London when he was on his way to a record label gig at Studio Studio Valbonne. He was very polite and appreciated that I even remembered who he was.
One Of The Best Interviews Hands Down. Omylanta, Have I Enjoyed This Whole Process... GOD Bless You All For This Treat... He Is Legendary... The States We Played Loose End Endlessly. I Still Play Tracks In Heavy Rotation As If Their Music Has Just Dropped Yesterday....
Omg I can listen to his stories all day!!! This is what our music industry is missing!! Real talent!! Ppl who love their craft and putting out great work!!!
Nice to see your band well and in good spirits... I was almost a baby silly teen when your music was very popular in the eighties United States... Never went to a concert and just ran across the videos lately and thought on how your music sound ageless and timeless... It could sell now in this time of 2020 I am sure... Take Care 50
I grew up right outside of Detroit Michigan in the United States and I fell madly in love with lose ends sounds as soon as I heard them . We had a station here back then called FM98 WJLB and they spun their album and I was hooked. I still have it in my CD player .
I searched what happened because Steve Nichol was so cute but so low key in the group. While watching Loose Ends, I said this nephew like mixed boy is charming!
I only had to hear a LOOSE ENDS song one time to buy their first 5 cassettes! When I got my first CD player, I repurchased the LOOSE ENDS albums on CD. Then first down load to my ipod. Favorite group from the 80s!!! JANE EUGENE is AMAZING, under rated, and CUTE as hell!
My favourite soul band ever along with incognito light of the world second image sos band slave and Frankie Beverly and maze best time of my life and all the old clubs from back in the day Lyceum crackers etc Steve nichol lovely fella and very humble saw loose ends a month ago at bolaise in Canary Wharf and tbh just wasn’t the same!! Good luck to Steve with his new projects and I will be definitely listening in 🙏👍
From around 1985-1991 4 Great Albums/CDs consecutively. They probably didn't sell as many records as: other groups but I can't name any that were better, maybe SOS but around the mid 80s they were fading (Mary leaving). You could play almost every song on their albums and you definitely could play Zagora and Look How Long entire Albums/CDs.
I love Loose Ends I respect Steve Nicol honesty he was right but Carl Mackintosh earned the title of Loose Ends he was the last one to leave the group he carried Loose Ends after all he produced and sung an 2 Loose Ends album after Steve and Jane left
I think that they all had personal issues to deal with and we have to remember that Jane and Steve formed the original Loose End group. I love Carl and all he has done but we have to accept that both Jane and Steve were major contributors. Loose Ends is always the 3 and never the 1.
Differently a group that set bar high for quality and performance. A complete Trend Setting for the time then and now just overall excellent. Get back together and tour with Floetry
they all three have their own individual talents I understand but in my opinion upon hearing they’ll never be a reunion or any new music between the three made they will never be able to recreate or gain the public’s attention as when they were the once iconic three person band called loose ends !
WE LOVE "LOOSE ENDS" IN AMERICA !!!
Awesome!
I saw them in Country Club Hills (Chicago) about ten years ago With Soul II Soul, IIRC. Great show
Time for them to come.back for a.nationwide tour along with Soul 2 Soul, Sade, Mica Paris, Estelle, Caron Wheeler, Brand New Heavies!
YES WE DO!! YES WE DO!! :-)

They were epic in the US. Black radio stations had them on heavy rotation for years. Was so upset when they broke up.
Same here.

Yeah REALLY, I TOTALLY AGREE ......
100%
It would be nice but I am sure they have their reasons and perhaps that's what is best for them all now.
🙏🏿
"Be a voice, not an echo"...thank you Steve Nichol for those words of wisdom.
I appreciate Steve's honesty and maturity. He didn't mention any personal strikes, point any fingers, or place blame on anyone. He simply stated that he, Carl, and Jane has moved to better pastures. Good Luck to Steve with his future projects.
