    It was nice to see how you both spent the night before the surgery... and what an awesome view you have from both those viewpoints! I spent five days in the hospital for an emergency appendectomy so I can relate to the lack of sleep and being woken up for blood draws and other necessary procedures during the night! I had so many needles poked into me that my veins collapsed and two years later they are still not as healthy as they used to be! I've been following your daily vlogs and your progress is amazing! I know you are not moving around a lot but this will all be over in the blink of an eye and you can look back and say "remember when we were...." In the grand scheme of things this will be over soon, what you have to keep in mind is that this is but a few days in the rest of your LONG LONG life! You have come a long way Nicholette and you too Brian! And you have much to look forward to and many wonderful adventures to share with all of us! Thank you both!

    Thanks for sharing. My best friend sustained a brain injury 15 years ago and it left her unable to walk and move around a lot. She just got her first bed sore a while back. Her caregivers said that it was a pain to deal with but that it was healed up withing a few months. Luckily her parents and care team have a great wellness routine.
    Hope you heal up soon.

    You were actually beaming before the surgery Nicolette. I think the anticipation is worse than the doing sometimes. Did you say that you have an address for the month of October? I'm watching the shorts daily. Good days and bad days. You need to make a countdown til bedrest is over! Think how much you will appreciate rock hunting next time you go! Hang in there!

    My ideal presurgery plan is to be ready with a spare day, then that day can be for luxury preparation, whatever that might be, maybe just resting.
    I thought those beds were supposed to be comfortable as well as no pressure. I was absolutely dreading the surgery I had in 2019 because I was expecting to be immobile, either flat on my back or slightly propped up and when I’d had to do that before it was very painful. My disability is quite complicated because it’s multiple conditions combining together to cause the exact problems that I have, that means there is no automatic “because X she needs Y”. That surgery was urgent so there wasn’t planning, the only thing I had made sure to say was leave the catheter in, but thankfully they put me on a circulating air bed, I didn’t even realise for a day or so as I couldn’t really tell where the noise was coming from and I only worked it out when I noticed the nurse kept checking something at the end of the bed. I was on a lot of medication but I think I’d have noticed if I’d have had the amount of backache I had after a previous surgery.
    Unfortunately I think having one at home is going to be in my future.

    Nicolette, that must be horribly frustrating. having the providers blame you for the underlying infection under your skin and into your bone. They act as if like you have invented the wheel. I’m sure this has been a similar experience of many wheelchair users and there should at least be a standard of care that can guide them. Sometimes they can be so aggravating. I’m glad you have recovered.

      Out of curiosity, do your post flap surgery wounds recover well? I had a stage three pressure ulcer a few years ago on my right isheal. It closed up after three months of bestest, but is still discolored and the skin is super sensitive. I still have to put a mepilex on or it opens up.. It has been a major adjustment in what I can do with it..

    Hi Brian and Nicholette! Question: Is your bed at the apartment a ‘sand’ bed too? ❤ Thank you for sharing your journey. Sending positive healing vibes ❤😊

    • @NicholetteBrian
      @NicholetteBrian  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lori! No sadly the sand beds are really hard to get approved for home - it’s an oscillating air mattress which serves the same purpose just not as efficiently!

    • @LoriWolfeRealtor
      @LoriWolfeRealtor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicholetteBrian Hey I’m glad you still have a special bed. I wish it was the sand bed but if this one works and keeps you as comfortable as possible that is most important! ❤️ Do you enjoy other hobbies?What kinds of things do you like to do to pass the time? Do you guys play cards or any games? 😊

    I had to lay flat on my back for 10 months. It sucked so bad. I lost all my muscles. I took forever to bounce back.
