    My first two years living in Angeles City I developed a cough that was constant until the day I moved to Subic...within a week in subic I stopped coughing and have not had any upper respiratory issues the last 3 years....Occasionally I visit Angeles and within 24 hours I start coughing again ...I believe the cause is from the many residents burning their garbage in the early morning hours.....Subic has a breeze coming off the water but Angeles air is dead most of the time.

    In the cities in the Philippines there is air pollution from Jeepneys and tricycles and in the province from burning their garbage

    I opened a BPI account in 2012 even though I was a visiting tourist. I just went with my Filipino sister-in-law who already had an a/c and it was simple. That was left unused with a small amount until 2016, when I moved to Metro Manila and started using it. Then I moved my monthly income from the UK to BPI - until BPI lost it! The UK bank verified they sent it but BPI did not put it into my account for 2 months. Another issue was when the UK bank made an error and sent my money twice - of course they asked BPI to return the second one, but BPI didn't and only added the first into my account. l only found out when my expected income the next month didn't arrive. The UK bank told me after I contacted them and I then put a strong written complaint into BPI. Now I only keep the BPI with small amount of peso, just in case. I had a Metrobank account at one time. When I closed that, it was simple. It only had to be empty and unused for a short while and they automatically closed it.

    With you luck the maintenance fee will exceed the balance, and you may end up with a negative balance and possibly an overdraw fee at the same time, I hope it goes as you expect. I have a lack of trust of what people tell me in the Philippines because the story or rules change like the wind.

    Second option letting it go dormant sounds better. At least you have a choice to activate it again if you ever go back to BPI. About the air quality here in A.C. I do believe it's polluted here. I keep my car in a covered garage, and it's open air at the sides. I would wash my car in the morning, not drive it all day. Then I would go out and see it in the afternoon and I would find a thin film of dirt on my entire car all over the glass and body. It's very noticeable. Thats the junk we breathe here. So yeah it's really polluted here in Angeles. You have a point Brian.

    I’m kind of surprised that USAA or Navy Federal don’t have an office there in country given how many of us retirees move to the Philippines. Especially since the US wants to reinstate either a large naval or Air Force presence somewhere around the old bases.

    • @egovorch
      @egovorch 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      That would be a forward thinking idea if corporate ever thought about it.....But the "large Naval/Air Force presence" can never be a "permanent" contingent....only a rotational one based on the PH constitution.....(UNTIL China steps up their game)....for that reason, I think corporate would not see it as a money maker....but still a great idea!

    You have to be a permanent resident. I've been here 18 months and my acr card sais tourist, so I can't open an account. The immigration department won't accept my American marriage certificate with my dual citizen wife. The only way I can get it certified is to go to Philippine embassy in Los Angeles.

    How to open an account (when married to a Filipina & you have a tourist visa). BDO- you have to be in the Philippines for 6 months continuously. BPI-present your passport & your marriage license, but there is a caveat, we were married at City Hall in Iloilo in 2000. This marriage license is no longer valid, like WTF does that mean we are longer married? No, I had to get an updated marriage license from the Bureau of Statistics (don't recall the exact name of this agency so lets simply call it the BS). Either go to said bureau (done in a few hours) or you can also procure this document from SM store where you can pay bills ect ( it took 5 days.) & I think it was about P300 +P100 for a second copy of the updated marriage license. Don't forget to bring along all of your documents.
