He has a punkish outlaw kind of look about him and the whole Zartan bro and sis family thing was a great addition to the line. I used to have a lot of fun with him changing colours, to me he was mysterious like a ninja he could blend into his background he had a silent weapon and people forget he's there or can't remember anything about him ...Mysterious

Zandar is cool. What most people don't like about him is his pink scarf, it may seem out of place but that is Zarana's missing piece of shirt, that gives them this brotherly bond making them more interesting.
Oh my, Zandar was actually one of my favorite figures,,, it is so funny how I totally agree with many other of HCC788's reviews, but this guy was really cool (eventually I put away vehicles and accessories and I used Zandar as a pro wrestling champ, I think he reminded me of Hulk Hogan... ..and Dr. Mindbender was the intercontinental champ, he reminded me of a slimmed version of the Iron Sheik!)... ..and then when I decided to go back to playing with accessories + vehicles, I decided to make Zandar an undercover Joe (most likely because the goodness/benevolent nature of Hulk Hogan must have rubbed off on him!) ....but he looks nothing like Hogan::: yes it's the bright eccentric colors and headband which reminded me of the "Hulkster Swag" if you will...
Peter Cullen's Voice is great in anything aside from Optimus Prime I believe he was the Captain in the Voltron Vehicle cartoons and would narrate several episodes of both Vehicle and Lion Cartoons. Cindar in the short lived Visionaries, Venger in the animated Dungeons and Dragons,Karr in the Knight Rider Series even Airbourne in G.I. Joe as well as Zandar.

Zandar was one of my favorite figures as a child. I remember it as if it was today when I first saw it with Torch. In my country sold many figures of the Brazilian brand Estrela. At first only that brand was achieved in my country. Hasbro could be bought over time. I bought Zandar in Brazil. When I saw him I said, "And what is this?" I really liked it a lot at the time. Although I have to admit that there were things that did not. I did not like his pink scarf or his backpack at all. But then I like everything about the figure. More than I am Dreadnok fan. But the most remarkable thing was to discover the property of changing color! We played with my friends outdoors in the gardens of our housing complex. It was a great find! "Do you see that it really changes color?" Wow, that was unique! In my country, we do not speak English and as children we had no idea of English. So if it was specified in the packaging we could never read it. We saw him playing and experimenting. As much as I have marked my childhood, I would not put it in a Top 10, but for me it is not at all a bad or ugly figure. HCC, I had to replace the O ring in my Zarana, I did delicately pry her apart. After doing this, I noticed that she no longer changes color, even after 10 min in the Az sun. Coincidence? Or just got old and the color change stopped working. Zartan still changes color, so I'm stumped
It is odd that, unlike his sister, Zandar's personality is incongruent with the loudness of his aesthetic. But all in all, I'm not opposed to his inclusion in the Dreadnocks. C'mon, it was 1986 - if we can forgive Bono for his hair during the "Unforgettable Fire" era, we can forgive Zandar for his fashion choices.
fun review!!! I liked the character personally... I always figured the pink rag was the missing piece of zaranas shirt, lol... from what I understand about the construction, they weren't glued, but rather fused together via heat treatment, directly related to the photosensitive plastic. I don't think they wanted people messing with them, probably because the chemical in it is very toxic. probably why they haven't used it since... there are a few casters out there,that play with the photosensitive chemicals, but warn that it must be handled very carefully while mixing it, due to its toxicity....
Cool channel! I had so many of the Joes you show here however, i have no idea where they went. Maybe I will start collecting Joe's again. My favorite was the original Rattler plane.
I actually do like Zandar. I feel like he was misused as a character. He could have been a cool tracker (sort of like a cross between Spirit & Lowlight). I don't think he's a bottom tier character. That spot is reserved for Crystal Ball, Psyche-out, Road Pig & Raptor.

Zandar was one I received before I was old enough to really register each figure's assigned identity. I just ripped them out of their casing to play with, and they would later form an identity based on my fondness and their appearance. He became like my number 2 man on the side of the JOES . I always assumed he was a good guy! I viewed him as part mexican, part indian; loyal, dependable, and tough as nails. For some reason, the orange hair and pink/blue coloring just seemed to fit the mexican indian in him.
I had this figure years ago, the grey of the trousers has a hint of lilac, if you compare the grey to the cobra stinger driver grey, it really stands out.
About the gluing of the color changing plastic - I would take a guess that it is because they used self-tapping screws, and the colour-changing plastic is too brittle to hold a thread.
gxbouncer1 Here's a little something that I used to do with my Zartan, Zarana, & Zandar action figures: I put them in the freezer for about a good hour of so; take them out of the freezer; go into the backyard, & let them change colors, but they would be a little heavier in their skin changing element. I still say he's cool!
this is so odd. I was watching this video the same time I just happened to notice Zaranas o-ring was loose and went to replace it and couldn't get the back off. I thought it was glued by someone who broke it or something. this is literally 2 minutes before you explain that they were glued together. I thought that was an odd coincidence lol
I think his pink scarf is more significant. It's obviously the lower part of zarana's shirt. Seeing their twin relationship is discribed as her being the dominant one, it seems like he would have a distorted emotional/mental need to be near her. It's like a little kids safety blanket or pluche animal. I think that this gives a disturbing extra layer to his character. Who knows what hé would do if he lost that scarf or is away from Zarana too long ...
I...ehm...kinda like Zandar. I think the warpaint, chest paint, and headband were nice touches. I do think the blue and pink weren't great, but if they took those parts and made them black (saving yourself a paint pass in the process, leveled off that eyebrow, and gave him a sniper rifle instead of a dart gun, he could've been a pretty great quiet assassin type.
This video served me to know why the hell could not separate the chest from the back since my Zartan has the broken rubber ring. I thought that my brother many years ago had repaired and pasted, but nevertheless has part of the original ring (could not be!). I did not want to try to separate him by force so as not to damage the figure. Now I just found out that they came from the factory together with Zarana and Zartan. Does anyone know how I can fix the broken rubber ring if I can not open it? Help!!!!!
Nan Lion I replaced the o-rings in Zartan and Zandar by carefully and gently prying at the seam with an exacto knife or razor blade and had zero problems.

The blue and pink match him with his sister. ants look like football uniform pants with the laces.

awesome review man ....although this one was unfortunately when gi Joe started the trend of the loud bright ass colors of the later years ..yea u always thought this guy was a little "fruity"... leading a " alternative lifestyle"..LOL...yea I didn't think he was a very good dreadnok ...and they did give this guy a modern update....which still look "fruity"...man who the heck is picking these reviews out ???...I know for a fact it aint you ...anyways nice work hopefully next week you pick a better one...LOL!!!

Weird...I really liked Zandar as a kid. The clashing colors of his outfit was totally 80's. The only thing missing is checkered Van's shoes.
