I know this is 3 years old, but I don't use a chimney with the fire starters. I went by the instructions on the box which is to lay out charcoal, place a fire starter on the bed of charc, pyramid charcoal around the starter with a minimal exposed, then light. I experimented using the smallest piece in the box and it still worked. I don't mess with the chimney anymore.

Great review, I like the Royal Oak tumbleweeds. That's what I use to start my charcoal. Never had an issue with them.

I used 2 of them on my chimney and there was a 6" flame coming out of the top after 20 minutes. 1 is enough lol.
