Beautiful ...I have a question, I am only one month into my journey, and I am considering free-forming. My question is, How often do you retwist or do you retwist at all? Will the hair lock at the root eventually even if you don't retwist?
as a free former you don't retwist you can separate them if you want. and as for the locking at the roots it depends with your texture mine is locked by the roots not all the way down to my scalp, my hair is kinky. thats the beauty of free forming you don't know what your hair will end up looking like.
My apologies for the late reply. It is important to understand that Freeforming is not really a hairstyle, but the absence thereof. YOU will change more than your hair does. Eventually you won't think about your hair. No twisting and no manipulation only washing your hair. Thats what freeforming is. If you twist and separate in order to maintain a look, you are no longer freeforming- but everyone manages her crown as she sees fit, try not to get hung up on labels. The hair will NEVER loc at the root or expose your scalp (unless you have a 1 or 2 straight texture). Thick free roots provide suspension and support once your locs get long and loose hair at the scalp allows you to properly clean your scalp. Nature really does know best, let it go sis! Blessed journey
