Do Hedgehog Spikes Hurt?

- Simply put: no. Hedgehogs are not juvenile porcupines, they are their own type of animal that aren’t related to porcupines. While their quills (technically spines, but the terms are often used interchangeably) may look scary, and are a defense mechanism in the wild, they don’t hurt humans, and aren’t dangerous.

I have two hedgehogs in my front garden and I leave food out and water for them . I've called one of them spiky and he answers to his name. Got use to it. The other week I had the pair of them sitting on my door mat. So cute.
I've been thinking about sinking a pot into the ground and using it to feed birds and my tortise by putting another pot in it and having the food replaceable

Probably Germany, we have them here around our property.
Usually they're blue and a certain mad scientist uses them to generate power for his robotic creations 🤣

I used to bleed when I tried holding my hedgehog until she was 3,4 months. She got bigger but became more docile. I miss her.
I have a hedgehog. When you first get it, and it is stressed or scared, it’s spikes will be very painful! You will get used to them and they will get used to you. Until then, those spikes are very painful to touch. I would use its snuggle sack to pick her up then put her in my hand to uncurl. That was painful though
My bastard hedgehog always pierces the skin. It hurts.

It hurts, a tiny bit.. then it goes away like magic, not even sharp enough to pierce and makes u bleed.. unless you handled them wrong :) even a cute doggo can hurt you if they're scared/feels in danger

yeah polydactyl on the last two fingers. it can happen on the foot too. it’s not actually polydactyl it has another name i believe
Their quills do hurt, but it is such a little amount of pain it can be easily tolerated
or spikes or spines or pointies whatever you want to call rhem
when they are shedding make sure when you take them out of there VIV you don’t drop any quils. I messed up and dropped a few in my carpet what was no fun when I would get stabbed in the foot

yes, they can be painful when you first get them but they will get used to you and stop.
