The butter bronzer was the first bronzer I ever owned. I got it at 13 because it was on sale, but the only shade on sale was wayy too dark for me, so I spent the 8th grade looking orange 😅
I think Setting sprays are less popular because they work great with powder products, but not very impressive with creams. And right now it’s all about the creams
I'm a cream lover and I still use setting spray lmao. My skin is super dry so my technique is to use very dewy/moisturising products for my base, and then a matte setting spray (less drying then powder) to turn it into a satin finish that lasts longer.
This is how I know Im out of the loop with makeup trends because I had no clue creams were popular and setting sprays arent. I havent done makeup in about 4-5 yrs so now im just watching a bunch of videos trying to catch myself up on what people are doing now lol
Yaaassss! I have very fair skin and this bronzer works for me without pulling orange at all. I still use it! Either this one or the L’Oréal infallible powder bronzer. Love them both. 😊
Maybelline baby skin primer, maybelline fit me foundation and concealer, physician’s formula butter bronzer, wet n wild powder blushes, Loreal amber rush and iced latte single shadows, revlon butter lipsticks, Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks, maybelline lash sensational mascara. oooof I could go on forever- so many from the makeup graveyard
when you mentioned the bare with me concealer as a throwback it made me realize im getting to that age where im like "no way, that was like last week wasnt it?" and everyone's like "no grandma...that was 4 years ago"
I still shake my head at the degree to which we would mattify our complexions. In the 90’s there was a brand marketed to teens called Jane that’s tagline was Shine Free and was all about “killing shine” “shine is the enemy”. I have their ads saved in Pinterest and crack up over them from time to time. When I started sneaking makeup in 7th grade my more knowing friends were like, “you HAVE to powder your nose or else you’ll die”. Literally shine was an enemy of the state 😆
Shine Free was actually a teen line by Maybelline. They had a mascara called Baby Lash that was awesome. I remember Jane Cosmetics, though. It was made by a company called Sassaby, which made cosmetic cases that were a competitor to Caboodles. It was such an innovative brand, and their ads were really inclusive when inclusivity was not a big thing. Their tagline was something like "There is no such thing as a plain Jane."
I laughed so hard when I saw the thumbnail! I SWORE that Nivea lotion was really doing something but alas… all it was doing was giving me acne 😂 I love this video idea!!
The whole video every time you said do you remember. I would respond "I member" in the member berries voice from South Park... I'm laughing by myself in my office 😂
Tbh I feel like some of these have a viral resurgence every few years athough they've been around for a decade or two. Like the NYX Jumbo Eye pencils or Colourpop Super shocks. Also according to the respective brands, some of these are still best sellers!! Definitely interesting to see a new wave of people discover old trends.
These were my GO-TOs in early beauty TH-cam days!! Foundation: Revlon colorstay Concealer: maybelline fit me!! Powder: Rimmel stay matte translucent Bronzer: Bahama mama by the balm was ICONIC Blush: obvs Milani luminoso Highlight: physician formula shimmer strips Eyeliner: physician formula liquid liner pen Mascara: L’Oréal voluminous carbon black
I remember the Physicians formula heart blush. I had to order it from overseas at the time. I miss that still. I probably wouldn't buy from them though because the packaging is so bulky
To this day the Milani Luminoso is the only blush I wear. Only one I've worn since it was viral even though I have a ton of other blushes. It just is the best blush on me and goes with every single color I wear and any eye look or lipstick and never fades on me. I keep saying I'm gonna use something else, then I just don't. lol It's one of VERY few holy grails I have found so I guess, once you find a HG, you just stick with it. lol
The Maybelline Dream BB cream was so popular in the late 2000's and early 2010's. I remember people like Michelle Phan and Kandee Johnston would use it so much.
Heres some I remember 1.The nyx jumbo stix. Specifically the shade milk. 2. LOREAL lumi primer (it was supposedly a dupe for the Becca backlight primer) 3. Physician's formular Butter Bronzer 4. Maybelline fit me loose powder
Major throwback, but does anyone remember Bonnie Bell lip glosses? For some reason they had packaging like a box cutter?? 😂 More recently (2018?), L'Oreal Infallible Concealer had everyone saying it was a dupe for Shape Tape
Coty Airspun is definitely the standard for powder for me! No other loose powder comes close to its smoothening effect tbh! Will forever have that on-hand
I loved this powder too but man it would make me sneeze! I had to make sure I was alllll done with it and finished sneezing before I did any eye makeup 😂
@@cassiel.6918 I threw mine out recently it made me look like a shiny seal I like the matte look when it comes to my skin powders, the old formula was more mattifying. So I went back to Maybelline fit me and wow is all I can say and I do have high end makeup, lots if it but that one has now become my hg❤
I also remember these popular products: RMCA powder, wet n wild walkin on eggshells & comfortzone eyeshadowpalette, NYX buttergloss & soft matte lipcream, LA girl PRO conceal, NYX HD concealer, physians formula shimmer strips highlighter & spotlight primer, L'oreal pro glow foundation
I still use Super Shocks for everything. As bases, toppers, one-shadow looks, etc. I don’t buy palettes from Colourpop anymore, but I still use and regularly pan the Super Shocks. I bought a big vault of them for only $30 during a sale.
Maybe I dreamed this, but didn't Angie nygvist recently say how she recently tried and liked the Maybelline dream matte mouse? Lol the problem for me is the lack of undertones in drugstore foundations in the past
I can't believe I've been watching TH-cam Makeup videos for 10 years! Does anyone remember what year it all started? I remember thinking I knew so much about makeup, but I was so wrong! I had like two MAC eyeshadows, 1 concealer, 1 mascara, a few lipsticks & glosses (good girl, old me!), I never wore foundation or blush, because my skin was perfect, and I had naturally rosy cheeks - I gasp at what I thought looked good!
I love this video! I still use some of the products bc they are just 👏 that 👏 good 👏! 😆 I am in my early 50s and the NYX bear with me serum concealer works great for my more mature skin (best drugstore one I have found) but I really love the Natasha Denona Hy-Glam concealer. I cannot seem to put that one down! I like the NYX chubby colored pencils too. I have the white one to use under shadows I want to make pop. Love the Essence baked highlighter as well. I have the blushes you mentioned too 😊 the one that REALLY took me back was the Maybelline Great Lash mascara in the pink tube with the green top! Like I said, I’m in my 50s and that was my first mascara AND my only mascara for years! I loved the stuff. It helps that I have longer curled natural eyelashes and I did use the waterproof version (that was hard to get off!) but it was the best mascara back when. Thank you for the trip down memory lane 😊 was fun! Have a great rest of your week! Happy holidays! 💖💕🎄🎁
I really miss Mousse foundatios esp the Maybelline Mousse, if it comes back with a Fit Me formula, I'd def buy it. What I don't miss is foundation sticks like the Black Opal ones, they were so greasy and I'm oily
The primer I remember people being obsessed with was the NYX Angel Veil. It was my favorite for a smooth matte finish! And I used the Maybelline Dream Mousse on my sister for her wedding and it turned out beautifully. Although I had to have her buy a new one because when we did a makeup test hers was CRUMBLY The powder I remember was the Rimmel Stay Matte. The packaging sucked but the powder was so good. And like $3! I wish Essence would come out with a lighter shade of their Pure Nude highlighter! I would buy that in a heartbeat!
I had so many Colourpop products like their contour sticks, og foundation and concealer, their old eyeshadow palettes (which were ok but has gotten better), lippie pencils and matte liquid lipstick (clueless was my goat)
Make up has been my hobby since before TH-cam. Some of the older items are in a keepsake drawer I have. I haven't thought about some of these in a while. Made me start thinking of those crazes we had back in the day. Like CG lash blast or Shu Uemura ME 945 eyeshadow. Good times. Loved the video.
I’m only 22 and I use the coty airspun powder! I’m on the hunt for a different loose powder because the coty can look a bit heavy, but nothing else makes my makeup last like it does
that foundation actually looks crazy good. you should try out the rimmel kind and free line! would love to know some thoughts on it. also remember baby lips from maybelline? 😂 and the wet n wild highlighters had a big moment a few years back when we wanted to be seen from space ✨ i also didn’t love the OG catrice camo concealer, but the true skin is wonderful.
I love the essence pure nude highlight, but I really wanted to like the pure nude blush but I’m didn’t, they were practically colored glittery highlighters.
NYC Sunny! I went through soooo many of those! I kinda miss it n wanna see how it holds up today. This was fun! Thanks for the throw back glam, darlin! Xo
The scent of Air Spun is comforting. My aunts and grandmother wore it! I still use the age rewind in Brightner. I can't imagine not having it! Where's Butter Bronzer? 😢 I still own it.
Omg I remember the NYC sunny bronzer! I had that when I was 13, used to pile it on and I was so orange. I forgot NYC existed. I used to love the nyc white eyeliner, I’d also pile that on my waterline hahaha the black eyeliner too! Those were my jam.
Yes, I used Coty loose powder in the early 90’s. It was in a paper container and didn’t travel well. It also came in more colors and I loved a pink one. I’m very fair and the other colors usually were too warm on me.
I remember hating that Rimmel foundation back in the day 😂 Revlon Colorstay was my JAM, it was one of the only foundations that was light enough for me back then. I went through bottles and BOTTLES of that stuff. I also just repurchased Luminoso, it’s beautiful.
110 Ivory. Too pink. Smelt like paint. All I could do really. Sometimes I'd use baby powder over the top. Usually though I did a whole face of concealer over a full face of Maybelline green stick concealer 'cos Maybelline did one quite fair for the late 90s/early 00s one with my dream undertone: not much. Sort of like, a very light whipped cream.
For bronzer, I absolutely love the Flower Beauty Heatwave Luminous bronzer, especially in Sunrise. On my ‘no makeup, makeup’ days this is my go to eyeshadow and ‘blonzer’.
Wow some of these were like holy grails and I’ve recently got the Coty air spun powder but they reformulated into being Talc free (lol still contains a lot in the container ).
I still use the Coty Airspun 🤷🏻♀️ I have only one other loose powder that I use besides it, but the smell has never bothered me and it sits so pretty on my skin that using almost any other powder just seems like a waste of money to me.
This was so fun Kelly!!! 💕 I love throwbacks! For bronzer the two that immediately came to mind were the NYC Sunny and Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. I also remember the NYX butter gloss in Crème Brûlée and Tiramisu.
Would love a video where you do each side different. Do one side the old way along with the brighter t zones, blinding highlights then the other the new way. Always find them fascinating.
I feel like there were some Wet 'n Wild products that were really popular, like 5 or 6 years ago? Their foundations that kind of smelled like paint with the spatula applicator and their highlighters!
Maybelline Blooming Colors eyeshadow trios, Clinique Black Honey (in the green pot, initial release), Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in frosted pastels, Bonne Bell Lip Smackers, Maybelline Great Lash (hated it, preferred Max Factor cake mascara until colored mascaras were introduced), Max Factor Erace (concealer), Covergirl foundation (smelled like Noxema, couldn’t stand it), peach blush (used similarly to the way bronzer is used now), Maybelline eyebrow pencils used as eyeliner, Coty Airspun powder, cake eyeliners in colors, Bare Escentuals (now bareMinerals) loose color cosmetics. Makeup was much simpler than it is now.
I still use Covergirl Lash Blast waterproof mascara as one of my top favorite mascaras for my top lashes and Clump Crusher for my lower lashes. Essence Pure Nude 01 be my highlight is still in my rotation for highlight anywhere but my cheeks. My mom still uses it as her only highlighter. I never left the shiny cheek highlight craze. I use setting spray every time I do my makeup.
It is so funny that I was applying my foundation when you started to use the rimmel stay matte. I, too, was using the rimmel stay matte. I like to take the dot to my finger, divide it between my whole face, and then buff it with a flat domed brush. It's so funny to be a rimmel stay matte stan in the shiny skin era and being like "This is awesome on my oily skin!", while other people are "look at this, it's a glowy skin tint!". I never got the essence pure nude (my stores never got it) but I have tried other essence highlighters and I love them. The wet n wild ones were also ones that had a hard grip on everyone. They did reformulate at least luminoso at some point, I remember reading many blogs back in the day saying that luminoso was a dupe for nars orgasm, but when I got my luminoso in 2018 I was so confused because orgasm is a pink and luminoso is an orangey peach. I was very confused.
I find this amusing because I still have (and use) many of these products. I too have the Elf bronzer with pan in it (plus a backup I bought awhile back). I stopped using it for a time because of the cream bronzer trend but I’ve been pulling it out lately for when I want a quick application/softer look for winter. I still like it. Also I was contemplating whether I should still keep my Milani Luminoso blush or declutter it the other day as it’s still taking up space in my makeup drawer- I don’t know if it’s even possible to hit pan in it. Still a soft pretty look especially for spring, but I hate the packaging ( busted easily and I fight with it) and I never think to reach for it any more as my blush collection grew in the past few years to the point I’ve put myself on a blush no buy.
The Nivea aftershave... omg the flashbacks😂 i used it for so long. Foundation was the L'oreal infallible...a very matte one, Coty airspun was so bomb in my opinion and of course highlighting my cheeks to high heavens with the Mary Louminizer(?) And i didn't use mascara😂
All hail ELF photofocus eyeshadow primer. Imagine living in 2018, when this puppy existed and simultaneously people were buying luxury concealers to put eyeshadow on top of. Madness.
HOW COULD I FORGET THE BUTTER BRONZER?!!! That was the obvious choice for bronzer but it totally slipped my mind hahaha
Oh and the NYX butter glosses!
First thing I thought of when you said "let me know...." 🤣🤣 BUTTER BRONZER
I just came to the comments to say "Butter Bronzer".🤣
I just uses ja Butter bronzer today. Love it!

I still use the Coty Airspun 🤷🏻♀️ I have only one other loose powder that I use besides it, but the smell has never bothered me and it sits so pretty on my skin that using almost any other powder just seems like a waste of money to me.
That Rimmel foundation is great in the summer when your skin is a little oilier! That’s when I use it.
This was so fun Kelly!!! 💕 I love throwbacks!
For bronzer the two that immediately came to mind were the NYC Sunny and Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. I also remember the NYX butter gloss in Crème Brûlée and Tiramisu.
Oh girl, I used to wear that rimmel London matte finish foundation..not one of my personal favs to wear…I’m using the L’Oréal foundation right now.😊
Would love a video where you do each side different. Do one side the old way along with the brighter t zones, blinding highlights then the other the new way. Always find them fascinating.
Physicians formula! Even before the butter bronzer they had another bronzer that was popular
Loved Scandalous Maybelline and green & pink one round lasted forever.😍 mascara. The brush was long. Run out the door.
i like matte - but the satin, silky kind
In Europe the Bourjois chocolate bronzer was theeeeeeee thing back in the days in drugstore. If you wanted it more fancy than Essence or Catrice.
Omg the pixi glow mist was pretty but it broke me out sooooooo bad
The NYC Sunny Bronzer and the Nyx one were the best bronzer of that time!
Love the finished look and love that lip combo on you!
It’s not quite a drugstore product, but I remember *everyone* on TH-cam was using the RCMA no color powder back in day!
Girl lol I still use Maybelline baby skin. It makes my t-zone look IMMACULATE. That stuff is some voodoo I swear 😂😂😂
All hail ELF photofocus eyeshadow primer. Imagine living in 2018, when this puppy existed and simultaneously people were buying luxury concealers to put eyeshadow on top of. Madness.
I still love mousse foundation and mourn the disappearance of Maybelline one.
You can pry my Pure Nude highlighter from my cold dead hands. 😅
I still use CotyAirspun, I try new things and then just go back.. I'm hooked.
