Loved this movie when I was a kid. I didn’t fully understand it but it was just so bizarre I couldn’t look away. But looking at it again as adult I understood the story more so…it’s more like a small scale cosmic fantasy. Still love it and forgot how infectious the ending song was ☺️
It was exactly the same for me. I didn't understand it at the time but Terry Gilliam's ability to create visual masterpieces kept my eyes glued to the screen. We recently watched it with our soon to be 4 year old son and it was fun seeing him react the same way. He loved it and was in complete awe yet he had so many questions about what the heck was going on. Even adults struggle with the concept of time and when one is yet to have much knowledge of historical events, it can be difficult to comprehend. It's one of those rare movies that adults and children can both enjoy.
It was the exact OPPOSITE for me!!! Saw this movie when I was like 5 and couldn’t sleep for days afterward!!! The whole damn thing just flat-out freaked me out!!! 😂
@@ashleyondich2633 I could see that. Don't get me wrong, there were definitely parts that freaked me out, namely the tall demonic creatures with horns. But for the most part I was entertained and in awe
Yes, though I think it goes a bit deeper than just being about God and the Devil. In my opinion, I believe Terry Gilliam was pointing out the moral quandaries and questions that arise out of religions and their oversimplified views of a supreme being. Like why would a god create evil if to only eventually destroy it? Why would a god allow things like war, poverty, death, and suffering? Why would a god toy around with humans like pawns on a chessboard? The movie brings up so many of these issues, yet being it's so humorous and visually entertaining it is easy to overlook them.
I was six yrs old watching this in ‘81. Watching with my dad and two older brothers. Been a big fan of this movie, but I remember loving the song at the end. So glad I revisited this, I couldn’t believe this was a George Harrison song. This brought back all those memories Thank you Sean Connery Terry Gilliam Georg Harrison
Being 45 yrs old movies from 1980-1983 resonate strongly in my memories. This was one of those films. Never knew what the hell was going on but it was visually captivating
@@synthoelectro I saw this film on a plane when I was a kid... the Supreme Being coming through the tunnel gave me freaking nightmares for a year. Gotta love 80's plane rides before they edited every dang thing :)
So many strange things going on in this movie that it captivated my youthful attention. Looking back on this film, it reminds me of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure meets Monty Python. Just a fantastic movie overall.
One of Harrison's most underrated songs. Definitely one of his top 10 songs. Vey whimsical & magical song with his "Classic" slide guitar sound. Don't know why it triggers such Wonderfull feelings?🧐☺🙏✌
Always loved this song. Great movie. Showed my daughter it when she was little like me . she loved the movie and the song. And like me she got excited a Beatle sang this awesome song
Time Bandits is one of my favorite movies of all time. I never saw it as a kid, but I've enjoyed it many times as an adult. I love how it intertwines history, mythology, theology, fantasy and adventure, all through the wacky visual sense of Terry Gilliam. And then as a bonus, you get this buried treasure of a song by George Harrison. Brilliant!
@@davidhickman647It started off _alright-ish_ but then quickly went downhill. The kid they got to play Kevin was decent but that’s about it, and for some reason they decided to cast regular actors for the Time Bandits rather than actual little people.
I can remember when this came out on VHS, a video shop had just opened at the end of the street, i was off school sick and my dad (rip) got a couple of videos out for me, the first one was utter crap but the second was Time Bandits, and i loved it, watched it that day and again when my brother came home from school, and have done at least once a year ever since, same with Trading Places.
Just watched this with my wife this last weekend and love the end credits. Still trying to wrap my head around the idea that this forms part of a soft trilogy with two other Gilliam films: Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
"Well, of course. I am the Supreme Being, I'm not entirely dim." , "Dead? No excuse for laying off work." and "I should do something very extrovert and vengeful with you. Honestly, I'm just too tired. But I think I'll just transfer you to the undergrowth department, bracken, small shrubs, that sort of thing. With a 19% cut in salary back dated to the beginning of time." are the best lines in movie history.
Good Evening: Saw Time Bandits in college with a friend on a weekday matinee because that was all we could afford. Still a near sellout, and almost the entire audience was either drunk or stoned or both--sometimes, the best way to watch a movie.
What a great 80's fun movie. A tad cerebral as well. God played by Ralph Richardson. He also starred in Dragonslayer. Ian Holm as Napoleon. Of course sean connery as well. Funny robinhood scenes with John Cleese.
Three films are seared into the fibre of my soul, this, alien and hellraiser. I miss being young and stoned. They were perfect films in their day, and still hold up today, but hellraiser for the original story. Can't wait to see if Taika Waititi can do time bandits justice, hope he doesn't give it the woke gender flipping BS.
Speaking of HellRaiser.. I have a cast members jacket, on the backside. HellRaiser "We'll tear your soul apart" It's Satin.. I had people offer me $500 for it.. Wore it about 5 times, been in storage hanging..
@@fredzep01 I'm turning 72 next week and sort of out grown it.. Curious as to who I know would love to have it.. I also have shirts from Night Court, Autographed by the Cast.. I could put them up for raffle for the SPCA..
I used to be so terrified of that bull head guy that Sean Connery fights when I was a little kid. That and those hook armed thingies. And death from Baron Munchausen
This song is honestly the best thing about the film! I remember first watching this and not really liking it, however upon second watch I grew adamant that there was some way of watching this and making sense of every nonsensical thing that happened. So I've watched it around 10 times now and found that there truly isn't a way of making sense of anything (if that makes sense), and I've found over the course of this mission that I kinda love it for it. Not one thing makes sense in this film, nothings answered, everything is strange and unusual... I myself am strange and unusual so I've grown to be quite fond (I have a soft spot for it).
I wonder whether the new Apple TV streaming series remake will come close to being as funny as the original. Why are we so against employing little people anymore though? Maybe these men are all passed away?

Fantastic film. Even years later re-watching as an adult puts newer films to shame.

I was 11 years old at the time and the ending song I liked to and it has been stuck in my head for the last 40 years until I found this today!
It's George Harrison's company that produced and distributed the movie.
My mom went with me to this movie! Great memories! She liked Shelly Duval and John Cleese!
Underrated film so unique
"It's THE SUPREME BEING!!!"
"You mean G-D!?"

RIP George. Great song and movie.
This is the most fabulous object in the world.
Obviously; someone who absorbed a significant detail in a total fantasy.

Pretty sure this film inspired many many more. Great film and lovely song ending!
Amazing movie and sound
For the life of me I couldn't think of the name of this song from one of favorite movies and now after 40 years I've found it!

I bet they change it so much it becomes an abomination.

80's kid: This one was probably the first film I ever watched 🎉😂
I love the song & movie! Too bad this movie never got a sequel. I think it would have been worth it.
A favorite of mine.
I loved this film as a child. So wonderful and fun!
And now Apple has created (in my eyes), another Time Bandits Master Piece with hopefully season 2 coming out soon.
Love them little guys.

It was a Terry Gilliam film. He was in Monty Python.

This movie was a mix of Legend, Willow and Labrynth
Conventionally, a 'mix' wouldn't predate it's obvious descendants.......5 years and more!

That's why the writer planned part 2.
