This interview is the first that I've seen perfectly present the evolution of Janelle as an artist and person. So many people are acting so thrown off by where she is now, but Zach and Janelle took the time to glide through her journey. Also, I loved the exploration of her music and personal growth that was shared in this video. And Janelle and Zach expressing their love and adoration for one another.
Yes, as someone who’s never been a fan but watched from afar, this is a spectacular intro / guide thru her artistry. I feel like I need to listen to all her albums before the new one comes out tomorrow.
@@SZAliaBanks You should. Her first two albums, in particular, have stellar lyrical content, instrumentation and production. The story of Cindi Mayweather, the android character who she created for those albums, is very creative as well. It's been interesting and entertaining to see her progress beyond that with her most recent two albums; but I do hope that she returns to Cindi at some point in some form.

I've been identifying as pansexual since I was 16, which was a time when I was feeling so alone and ostracized. When I found Janelle and started to follow her journey, I saw so much of her in me and I knew she was someone special. When she came out as pan it was a turning moment for more people to learn and understand pansexuality. More people in my life were open to learning who I am. I saw her Dirty Computer tour 3 times, I even got to go onstage and I met her at a meet and greet. She inspires me so much to be a free ass muthafucka. Dirty Computer was my soundtrack when it came out. So many gems that allowed me to feel free in my body as a black, queer woman. I'll be 30 this year. I look back on those tough times as a teenager and am so glad I had her music to get me through and to feel like someone understood me. Janelle is a treasure ❤

I really appreciate that he asked about Janelle's pronouns, for clarity's sake. Far too many people still refuse to use nonbinary pronouns just because they're used to thinking in just "he or she". As Janelle explains, "she/her" is also okay for her, but "they/them" is just as valid and should not be neglected.

I had kind of heard of Janelle when she did that song with FUN but I hadn't really looked into her until I randomly saw the Pink music video when I was tripping. It literally changed my LIFE. Dirty Computer is so fucking incredible musically and visually. I told everyone I knew about it. I showed them the emotion picture, her other songs, interviews, I literally could not stop talking about it for a while.
