I need one of those blue vynals.. Possibly with Wondaland's signatures. I need to see if there's any left. Love love love love love
Take me to The Palace of the Dogs
Why are you flashing on stage now?
What's with the dirty music videos now?
Keep doing you queen.
Thumbs up if you actually knew about this song before glee
Waaaaay before I just found out Glee perfomed this lol. I'm happy new ppl are being introduced to this amazing woman though.
No one cares about glee god.
I found this song a year or so after its release. I love Janelle
Kennedy Boston =egg of life
What is glee (JK)
I've never seen someone who could dance as well as James Brown or Michael and still make music with the same quality as Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gaye. She really is a once-in-a-generation talent.
Drew Thomas her and Bruno mars
Queen AnG exactly 👌
@@ohemaa_ang yeah
Right, got to love the James Brown moves in here.
She's a great dancer but MJ come on, his talent can not be touched at all although they are both influenced by James Brown
While she may not getting views like most of these "popular" artists. Her talents guarantee her staying power. Pop artists come and go, but real talent is here to stay.
deffbee yh she's already sold out though listen to her new song yoga.. fame and money hungry tbh
xz claire how has that song make her a sell out
WildPanda 1978 loses her unique style to make songs with no substance to sell records..?
xz claire She said that she's experimenting with new sounds. As an artist she's not locked to only sell a certain type of records. You can't blame someone for trying to reach a different audience cause those people that she's able to reach with her new song will listen to her other stuff and many will like what she's about. Her songs don't need to have a deeper meaning to it and you can't say someone is a sellout just by going off of one single.
Angel Herrera ? lol it doesn't have to have a deeper meaning, shes playing the game she just wants money and fame otherwise you would stick to your roots and make music that actually shows some form of talent, anyone could make a song like her new single.. i guarantee everyone will forget her new song within like a month whereas a song like this will be stuck in peoples heads for ages! i cba debating about this
13 years ago, people weren't ready yet. I remember always listening to her music and watching her performances/videos, just thinking people were gonna eat her all up. She deserves it all
Here with you, all these years later. And can’t believe that the masses didn’t react the way I thought they would. She’s a gem. She deserves so much more!
Same!!
they still ain't ready....I been ready since 2006 :)
@@goat1408 me too
But seems like we don't have the same Janelle Monae as before tho. I think the industry got her
Her voice, style, dance, and now acting talent in "Hidden Figures" is top notch! The girl's got it goin' on!
OMG i didn't know she was in hidden figures yeah i remember her character
The perfect mix of rhythm, energy, and class - which is to say, A+ in all three categories *and* seamlessly flowing together in one moment - and indeed one video - besides.
It's a shame that she doesn't get more rec in the mainstream. Music is too much of a popularity contest.
Eric Matterson so true bareley any new artist get the attention they deserve!
kalaireo Jones but she’s not new..lol
Jai Ackermen I know I'm saying new artist don't get a chance. Like Eric said it's a popularity contest. By new I mean bareley known. Thanks for the confirmation
Eric Matterson i agree
Eric Matterson well she's back now and she's gonna be too good to ignore
So apparently I have a major thing for woman in suits/buttonups

@Charles Childers That's your opinion
Charles Childers That has nothing to do with the comment?
hahahaha same. This video set my gaydar off before she was out and before I realized I was queer
@Charles Childers That's like, your opinion man.
Have you seen Alizee?
2024 and it's still gold and encouraging
If you don't believe Janelle is talented, you need to reevaluate exactly what you think talent is. Her voice and her moves are slick and absolutely arresting. Janelle is such a great artist and I pray she gets more recognition.
She is most definetly talented I love this song. People should notice talented people like her not Taylor swift or nicki manaj this girl is boss
If only artist like Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift would go away ....
Agreed, she's got the complete package!
I dig her, but peeps don't have to like this song or her style. We don't all have to love the same stuff. No one is above another just because of what we call talent and how it differs as long as they're having fun
She is a mesmerizing entertainer. Just watch her concert at Rock in Rio. Most people didn't know who she was and still they had the time of their lives. :D
The way she dances is so fascinating.
Watch her video for Q.U.E.E.N.
Look at James Brown when he was younger.

Who is here after Janelle being snubbed twice at the Grammys in 2019?
Snakey Snake she deserved better 😩
Yea😣
Snakey Snake I agree! She is amazing!! In every way 😊
Grammys don't love us.
She doesn't need it... We all know, you know?
Some of y'all need to watch some variety shows from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Miss Janelle's dancing on the shoulders of giants, kids. She was steeped in Doo Wop, Motown, Funk and Soul. Everything old...
9 years?!?!? This ages sooo well!
Like a good wine baby
Timelessness seems to do that
10 now
It is a very 70s funk influenced song, so even though I won't pretend to preach with a "old school is better than your kid music", we can say this song is done in a style that has stood the test of time. Funk is a great influence on many kinds of popular music.
S0QU¡- QI¡ agrees 100%!
what a cool song shes so pretty and very talented
Miss. Phyllis Renee Foster I agree girl
yeah!
Miss. Phyllis Renee Foster SHUT UP ☝

"Good God! . . ."
Janelle Monáe is truly one of if not THE greatest sci-fi/speculative fiction creator of our time. Freaking brilliant. Absolute visionary. This is so creative and relevant yet timeless, and it came out OVER TEN YEARS AGO!!!
if this was released in the late 60s (without the rap part), this would be a smash and a huge game changer in r&b history
I tend to think some rap brings back the quality of songs sometimes.
James Brown might’ve had some “competition” if that was the case. Ain’t no funky beat like this today besides her 🙌🏽🙌🏽 nobody heard that “HA” at 3:22. James Brown all day 👍🏽👍🏽 love it
Since a particular music award show felt they needed a woman to stand in for Mr. James Brown (I believe he was very ill or had passed away). This Artist should have been The Lady--NOT Christina Aguilera; although I do enjoy her voice, too.
Lyon Prairie ok first off the guy ft in this song influence her to make this album cause of one of outkast album called Stankonia don’t be ignorant
Lyrics : Whoaaa!
Another day (adabadee, nigga)
I take your pain away
Some people talk about ya like they know all about ya
When you get down they doubt ya
And when you tip it on the scene, yeah they talkin' bout it
Cause they can't tip on the scene
They just talk about it, t-t-t-talk bout it
When you get elevated
They love it or they hate it
You dance up on them haters
Keep getting funky on the scene
While they jumpin' round ya
They trying to take all of your dreams
But you can't allow it
Cause baby whether you're high or low
Whether you're high or low
You gotta tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
T-t-t-tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby, whether you're high or low (high or low)
Baby whether you're high or low (high or low)
You got to tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Now let me see you do the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
And I'm still tippin' on it
See I'm not walkin' on it
Or tryin to run around it
This ain't no acrobatics
You either follow or you lead, yeah
I'm talkin' bout ya
Keep on blaming the machine, yeah
I'm talkin' bout it
T-t-t-talkin' bout it
I can't complain about it
I gotta keep my balance
And just keep dancin on it
We gettin funky on the scene
Yeah you know about it
Like a star on the screen
Watch me tip all on it
Then baby whether I'm high or low (high or low)
Baby whether you're high or low (high or low)
You gotta tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Yeah, tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby
Whether you're high or low (high or low)
Baby whether you're high or low (high or low)
Tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Baby let me see you tight rope (tip, tip on it)
And I'm still tippin' on it
You gotta keep your balance
Or you fall into the gap
It's a challenge but I manage
Cause I'm cautious with the strap
Do damage to your cabbage that
A doctor cannot patch
Why you don't want no friction
Like the back of a matchbook
Daddy Fat Sax will fold you
And your MacBook
Close shows, shut you down
Before we go-go backwards
Act up, and whether we high or low
We gonna get back-up
Like the Dow Jones and NASDAQ
Sorta like a thong in an ass crack
Come on
I tip on alligators and little rattlesnakers
But I'm another flavor
Something like a terminator
Ain't no equivocating
I fight for what I believe
Why you talkin' 'bout it
J-j-just talkin' 'bout it
Some callin' me a sinner
Some callin' me a winner
I'm callin' you to dinner
And you know exactly what I mean
Yeah I'm talkin bout you
You can rock or you can leave
Watch me tip without you
N-n-now whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
Whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
I'm gonna tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Mmm
(Tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby
Whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
High or low
(High or low)
I got to tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Now baby tip on the tightrope
You can't get too high
(You can't get too high)
I said you can't get too low
(We can't get too low)
Cause you get too high
(You can't get too high)
No, you'll surely be low
(No, you'll surely be low)
1, 2, 3, ho!
Yeah, yeah
Now shut up, yeah
Yeah, now put some voodoo on it

This brings a whole new meaning to someone like me who has Bipolar. You can get rather high or extremely low. The key is to stay on the tightrope. Try to keep balanced, emotionaly. Which is not an easy feat.
This is now my anthem!
Such an upbeat song. Love everything about this.
Thanks Janelle Monei
She did this in The Palace of the Dogs Asylum where James Brown and Jimi Hendrix both ended up hospitalized.
Watched this video 30 times and just now picking up on the song being about mental illness.
Oh wow, I'm bipolar as well and I didn't think about it until you mentioned that! :O
who could ever hate this song and video? this song is amazing.
Racist people.
People who disliked the song and video style,it has nothing to do with racism.
Elsa M Towards Blacks? Of course -facepalm-
John Lee Not gonna say I hate or even dislike the song, but the part from big boi was pretty frigging bad and really dates the song with references to stuff like macbooks, the dow, and the nasdaq as well as the line "like a thong in an asscrack." Just general bad lyrics can really take you out of the song especially in the context of the album because his lines completely break the fourth wall. I bet the song would be practically perfect if she wrote all his lines lol.
I remember my daughter showing me this video for the first time when it came out, and I became an instant fan! This song is phenomenal - the vocal, the arrangement, everything, and it so stood out from so many other "hit" songs at that time. Janelle Monae rocks!

Taylor swift may have wanted to experiment with her sound
but shake it off does not sound like this
Deja Davis Sure you can - same shuffle rhythm, sounds like no other recent song. But she's lily white so it's alright! :)
steve conn Except Shake It Off is repetitive and somewhat grating and this sounds harmonious with glowing vocals so either way I'm not terribly concerned.
Lin Freeman You don't have to be; it's not your work being ripped to greater acclaim.
steve conn Greater acclaim? No. Janelle is a lot more critically acclaimed than Taylor. But yes, Taylor's commercially more successful.
Janelle is a versatile artist. ArchAndroid is her perfect album. She also does her best in performing. Totally a complete package.

this video has so many messages
how can u tell me I'm scares
Yes it do
+Jeff Birdy Not doubting or being sarcastic in any way. What messages do you see or stand out to you?
She doesn't mean demonic messages. Prolly has something to do with a minority group of people who have been demonized and repressed because people refuse to understand and respect their cultural norms. The majority want them to conform to their societies standards, but they are trying to hold on to all of their cultural norms without falling into the norms of the majority; hence the word "tight rope'(tight rope representing how hard it is to keep their culture without being influenced or falling into the majorities standards. I tried.

Andjela Tatarovic She has the moves and she is very beautiful
What is not to love about this? I could go on all day. Something new to see and hear every time I do and I can't get sick of it. This is what so much jazz, so much poetry, so much dancing wants to be when it grows up!! This is going to be tough to follow in the future.
Is that the female reincarnation of James Brown ? :-O
Who is listening this in 2019.

Hello...🇭🇺
I've been listening since it came out
CHVRCHES.
their version is way better! haha!
Personally, I think Janelle's musical style and voice suits it a little better, but Chvrches' version was very true to their sound and interesting in its own way.
It’s in these moments (and many others) that I LOVE BEING BLACK!!!
