Ok and holy cow that visor cam is incredible. So clear. Better than any I’ve seen in the big time series. Love that you just let it roll for two laps. Great work.
I really love that you had the speedometer and RPM metrics available on screen as you raced and practiced around. One of the hardest things to comprehend in simulators and racing games in general is that you're taking turns at 60 MPH, 80 MPH, or 100+ MPH, it's really insane and the scale in games never shows it off like you'd see in real life, let alone experience that. So thanks, that's awesome. And congratulations, this is pretty huge, hope it turns into something in the future, happily consuming your content.
It was an absolute sensation to meet you on your championship debut, even if I was unable to get any photos of you on the Sunday. 🙃 Either way, brilliant to see just how far you’ve managed to get things to go! 🙌
3 years ago I came across your channel and it literally changed my life. I've made so many friends in sim racing and it's by far my biggest passion in life. It's incredible to see what this hobby can do for the people who work hard enough. You deserve that seat and I can't wait to see what the future holds..
Side note; Donington Park is an absolute proper racetrack! The beginning of the circuit, all the way up until Starkey's Straight, best summed up as fast and furious.. and i totally understand being cautious into coppice! its a trick but key corner to your lap times!
"Braking too hard" - I had the same experience coming from sims to club racing, and found it really interesting to come to terms with. It's hard to describe, but in sims it feels like "brake as late and as hard as possible" = speed, but that isn't always the case in real life. It's really hard to translate momentum and flow into a sim, but it's a massively important part of making lap speed in the real world. Awesome job out there!
Yep if you brake to hard in a real car it upsets the chassis and you go slower. Not sure why the sims aren't very good at the little intricacies like that but they're not.
Yes, very true. These practice days really highlighted to me the importance of good braking technique. I'm very accustomed (from karting and sim) to smashing the pedal and braking in a short distance so it'll take some time to adjust my technique to suit car racing IRL.
Fun to hear. I always get: "Brake harder, much harder." Could do with me used to drive when conditions were "shitty" since in normal situations I was far off pace. Today, as 42yo, bad health and no actual racing since I was 17yo, my pace would be slow as a snail... Fun to watch other try their racing nerve though. That's why I'm here and 'cause of your comment's in what's happening on screen for us. 😎👍
Your race craft around other drivers is so crisp. You really know how to position the car and you understand well how to use momentum and inertia to your advantage.
Tip for you and Gordy: You really should use distance based traces in RS2, not time based. I think your traces were not well aligned. Also, if you switch to distance based, you get the difference graph in the bottom which helps find spots where one or the other is faster.
Im so jealous and happy for you dog, its honestly hard to look at. I remember when you were just playing video games making jokes about being a real driver. Then you got the wheel and then you started getting better and then more go karting content. Just absolutely insane to see man, keep it up. Drive fast, drive safe and be happy bro ❤️
I started watching you 4 years ago and in that amount of time I have watched you grow and follow your passion. Your sim racing inspired me to get a Fanatec rig and try it out myself (poorly I might add). Then you started dropping Karting videos and I watched you transform from an entertainer to a real racer. The amount of work and dedication you must have put in to reach the position you are in now is so inspiring. Keep up the awesome work Steve. I am so proud of you and all you have accomplished!
Well done Steve mate keep it up, hopefully you can make gains thru the motorsport ladder, I also won my first b final at clay pigeon on sunday and I’ll happily admit that you probably played a part in one way or another so thank you mate
Epic Steve. From the DS4 pad to the race track all off your own back. Truely incredible! Very proud that you are part of the Gran Turismo community and making big moves in real life.
Its interesting to me to see the different approach Gordy takes for Steve than Jimmy. Its clear that Gordy was adapting to both of their personalities in an effort to teach them the best way. Iv never driven and obviously never been a driver coach but Id imagine that skill to empathize and meet your student at their level is very helpful. I swear I say this on every video I see Gordy in but, that guy is just amazing. Gordy if your reading this, one day I will meet you and I cant wait haha. Keep being amazing!
I got my first wheel last year. And I'll always say it even though everythings GT3 and LMP cars. The Radical at Brands Hatch is the most fun I've had trying to be a wheel man. Raw.
So cool to see the differences and similarities between real racing and sim from your perspective. What an incredible experience. Happy for you man, you’re crushing it! 👍🏻
I did track day with palmersport and this video brings back so many memories from then. I was nowhere near as fast as you but at least others where faster than you too, makes me not feel so bad then! Keep up the hard work and looking forward to more content on this!
i've done MANY virtual laps at Donington, i really love that circuit, although i've never seen it in person. also, i can't imagine a better driver coach for you than Gordie!! cheers to both of you and to Radical for giving another filthy filthy sim racer a go in their car
Great job done on working your way up to speed, learning the track and the car at the same time. Very methodical, very smooth and not bending anything!!
Such a cool video so cool to see you racing irl rather than in turismo can't wait to see you, In some even faster cars on some different tracks! Great job out there looking forward to your upcoming content keep up the great work!
I too would like to thank Radical for letting my favorite racing games youtuber have some REAL fun in a REAL race car on a REAL track! Good job Super GT for achieving WR on your first ever lap, I'm 100% sure everything went exactly as you and your coach told! ha ha
I stumbled across your channel watching GT7 videos, but this is legit content and stuff a lot of people don't get to see and commentary we don't normally get to hear. You are living the dream! I look forward to the race!
Track walks are cool, you really get to see and feel the true gradients on the circuit Knockhill is amazing for that, what a crazy lil circuit, love it. Good to see you behind the wheel, major props to you well done.
Its amazing how well you handled the car, considering how its you first time driving a race car, and probably your first time feeling lateral Gs this intense, nice video!
It's a whole different world than sim racing. Back when I was your age I spent a lot of time out at Heartland Park Topeka track on track days. Me and my MR2 and it's quite the workout. Now I live in Wisconsin and want to hit Road America. Been practicing on Forza 6 with the MK1 MR2 SC which mine is an NA but close enough. You were looking really good. Have as much fun as you can.
Really well done and you certainly didn't show yourself up. First time in the car and track. I've done Donnington on superbikes and it can be difficult at first. However, learn it and its one of the best tracks. Good luck with the race.
Hey Steve well done 🎉🎉🎉😮😮 thank you so much for sharing with us fans and loved the helmet cam too. Always a fan and will always appreciate your content keep it up keep pushing. I also hope next year you will have time for Forza Motorsport content and more endurance live streams legend. Go get em Steve 🐐 🚗 🏎️ 🏆 🏴 😃
I've seen those Radicals before at race weekends, that white purple n gold one deffo. We were at Doni earlier this year in April, uni team in Sports2000
been watching ur channel since gt sport came out few years ago. Helped me with my racing too. so cool to see you go kart and then into a real racing car.
This is some really impressive vertical learning curve action. New car . new track, wow.. All the sim laps in the world can't replicate the Gforce of a radical and to go straight into Donnington with its technical curves into a crucial stable braking area before a unsettled right apex at high speed takes talent . You made that look easy for a first time. Fair doos
Goddamn. I still remember the first time I was driving against you in Forza Motorsport 7 in one of your "everyone can join" lobbies. Your drivatar is also still firmly in my Forza Motorsport and Horizon races (and will hopefully never disappear). And now you are driving actual racing cars ánd actually racing them. I feel so happy for you! Man such a good job Steve.
That's fantastic Steve, I'm very happy to see you progressing, I hope you run your first race and keep your channel on so you can tell us when you're going to try the old switcheroo, or the new switcheroo. Please make sure you post to all of us when you're racing and where so we can tune in and cheer you on.
Tricky track to master or even race at higher competitive level. Three or four corners require total dedication (two of them you can't even see properly) as you can carry so much more speed through then initially thought. Confidence in a car and lots of practice is a must to race well in Donnington. That footage was impressive, mad respect. Especially from me that gets queasy after just 20 minutes of karting. I swear if I had been in that car I'd have painted the inside of the helmet in green after two laps.
