  • Corona restrictions are still strong, we aren't able to normally train because our gym is closed. We took the new SIGI Kriegsmesser and Langmessers to an empty park for some easy sparring, enjoy some highlights! Yeah, I know, we're a bit rusty and need some regular practice again. Thanks to Ondrej Sausa for partnering up.

    Really enjoying SIGI swords, thinking about buying a whole line starting with their longsword. I really want to get one of their langesmesser to start practicing for using a kriegsmesser in buhurt

    Beautiful mezzo temp- I mean duplieren, at 1:36 and 1:40 :)

    • @petritzky
      @petritzky 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      right? It looks like he uses it a lot more here.
      You can kinda see how he works out the right tempo from beginning to end of the Kriegsmesser section. And how it gets more effective.

      I wouldn't call those canonical Dupliren exactly, but it's still pretty

    Seems feders are much more nimble and fast than synthethic longswords. Will have to get a pair of 2 someday.

    • @thomastucker7317
      @thomastucker7317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These guys are also very high level fencers who are fit and athletic, most footage you see of people using synthetics or even in real life when you see people using synthetics they are generally beginners. Its tough to say

      Feders are more nimble than longswords in general. Different mass distribution.

    Been thinking about getting a Sigi katana, or possibly a pair. I've been watching your videos for awhile for some inspiration, as I am brand new to the world of HEMA. You are one of the best swordsmen on TH-cam in my opinion, and the fact that you are a co-owner of Sigi now has me even more interested. So two questions: how will the katana hold up against Longsword, and how long will a sword last me, assuming I fight hard with it for about 3 hours a week?

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thank you very much for your kind words! The Katanas at SIGI are designed so they will hold up against anything. To the best of our knowledge none have been broken so far and they have been sent to all corners of the world :)

    My, you guys move nicely. I wish you could see moves like that in movie swordfighting. It's always so stiff and clunky.

      So dynamic, it gives such realism. Like the old japanese samurai movies, full of quick and lightning action.
      The problem is that there's little to no interest in making this type of films. Well maybe now 3 years later it might start to pick up with the low budget release of Born for the sabre.

    No Schiel, Zwerch, Sturz, Streich ;(
    Nice sparring and product, but ofcourse less technical fun. Longsword with less options.
    Really like the location and music.
    Pssst make more Videos Martin :P You got me started with Rapier years ago and now im teaching, cant thank enough for that.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On the contrary, there's a plenty of the techniques you've mentioned! :)
      Sturz: 00:10, 00:46
      Zwerch: 00:16, 00:23, 00:56, 1:02
      Schiel: 00:29, 00:41, 00:45
      Winden: 00:52, 1:17 (a complex one)
      Nachreisen: 1:11
      Krump to the hands: 1:15
      Ansetzen: 1:31
      There are 2 winckers in Langmesser, Bogen, verfuhren, nachreisen, ansetzen... Plenty of nice actions
      Really glad about the rapier :) May you inspire and teach many many students in the coming years!

      @@MartinFabian So its meant to simulate a Kriegsmesser with a short Falseedge? Those tend to be rare.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sabelfechter7136 it's a product which has some features and the customer may see it as having a short edge or not having one, it's up to them. I'm also not trying to limit my technical portfolio and I wouldn't probably do that in a real fight (meaning those few strikes like zwerch).
      And thank you for your kind words 😊
