Oh man! Hey Jon! I actually work at Firaxis and was on the Audio team for Midnight Suns. Really glad you've been enjoying the game! Thanks for the video. 😄
I mean there is always a 5% chance. The odds just don't get better every time you try, because that's not how odds work. This is how people lose all of their money at casinos. A strange belief that random doesn't actually mean random when you do it enough times
95% chance to hit means you're guaranteed to miss 1 in 20 times on average. That's the literal definition. Statistics would probably put the first fail within 14 shots, iirc.
OK fun fact about Tony Stark's design. He used to have a bit of a Vicent Price look to him in the comics which of course changed over time especially when Robert Downey Jr's look became synonymous with the character. Naturally in the MCU they gave Tony Stark's dad Tony Stark's old Vincent Price look. So it's less that Tony Stark looks like his dad but more they're both modeled after the old Tony Stark. Which is still an interesting choice given marketing considerations of what Tony Stark's iconic look should be.

Plus the actual levels are extremely repetitive and quite small. You''ll be stopping the same helicopter, dstroying the same truck, disarming the same bombs etc a bunch of times with little to mix it up, and due to the game mechanics, the level design doesn't give much if any game variety due to having no cover and completely free movement (whereas in XCOM the different levels and enemies provide different strategy challenges, even if the objective is the same) On the bright side, while the microtransactions are very intrusive and limiting, they only limit customisation. Which is an issue in a game where you make your own character, but if you don't care then gameplay isn't affected. The writing/voice acting is pretty weak too, worse than the Avengers game. Your character doesn't know what a horse race is (despite only being a few hundred years old, wtf humans have had horses for thousands of years) but then they make a joke about car transmissions.
It is kind of weird that someone like Captain Marvel (who wields enough power to basically destroy a universe) can't just... wipe out all these disposables in half a second with time to spare. The issue is they have low stakes and street level goons... but the player has heralds. Which makes the narrative feel contrived when they can solve the entire story right this moment. Personally I'd have preferred if the game was solely people like Blade. Where the power and strength of your heroes matches the stakes.
Decent game. Definitely one of the better Marvel Games to come out recently. But I wish this game had more of an emphasis on the Midnight Suns themselves. Spiderman, Ironman, and Captain Marvel shouldn't have been in the game. Dr Strange should have been a character you can play as. As well I remember Venom being a character that was supposed to be playable, what happened to that? Hopefully the demonic Venom is well presented. Also given the popularity of MoonKnight, and the recent introduction of Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing to the MCU, you'd have thought those characters would have been in this game, especially since they actually have experience dealing with the supernatural, and were original members of the team. But it's a fair game for what it is. I think the tactical playstyle is refreshing, especially in the sea of repetitive action games out there. So if there ever is a sequel, I hope they build on this system.
Considering they changed the name from Midnight Sons to Midnight Suns it doesn't surprise me that they are playing fast and loose with lore and team rosters.

@@trogdor8764 Part of a QuickTimeEvent is that it needs to be done on a reaction in a short time. Slugs and Barnacles is just button mashing. The only reaction needed is to notice that something is eating your face. Dodging has no timing at all, you just walk left or right and automatically dodge. The meleeshooty can be seen as a QTE fair enough. Combat is just combat, the character locks on in melee, yes, but you can otherwise shoot how you want if you deactivate auto-aim.

It's entirely linear, the gameplay is basically quicktime events (even the normal combat is basically just a series of QTEs), and the story is meh. Its main selling points are the graphics (which cause the game to stutter constantly), how gory it is (which isn't something I think Jon will enjoy), and jumpscares (which is something the audience will enjoy but Jon won't).
@@trogdor8764 I just played through it and you are right, its not great. Very few Quicktime events though. Plenty of Jumpscares, but by the way Combat and surprises work its more of a "oh i gotta deal with that" rather than "aaah im scared"
Also minor spoilers: No likable characters survive the game.
@@adrenjones9301 Every time one of those slug things jumps on you, a QTE. The things that are basically Half Life barnacles but on the floor, QTEs. The dodging is basically QTEs without there being a prompt on the screen, you just alternately hold A/D to dodge. The melee->quick shot lock-on mechanic is also basically a QTE. You don't manually aim or maneuver during combat at all.
@@trogdor8764 Dammit! Not played it myself, I've only seen the trailer, but if it's too linear that's no fun all around. Damn!
