I really liked this video. The full breakdown of your conversation is a weeks worth of study material 😂. I noticed the waving thing in Japan and wish I appreciated it more. Super kind people all around.
I'm glad I watched this video as I'll be studying in Nagoya for six months starting in April. It has really helped me prepare for potential conversations at the airport.
I mean, as I was commenting under another video, that is my job right now, this video is so useful and informative! I'm also amazed at how the general questioning regarding the contents of your luggage remains the same in other countries as well. Thank you so much, Sayaka-sensei!
I learned how to formally say boarding pass. It was hard to hear some of the audio as a non-native, but the Japanese subtitles were great and really helpful to track the conversation. I have noticed that as a non-native, the less clear the audio is, the bigger of an issue it becomes. In Spanish, my native language, it doesn't matter, singing, low audio, bad audio, background noise, I can understand it perfectly in any situation for the most part. But even in English, and I live and work in an English speaking country now, I still sometimes struggle if the audio is not "perfect". The same with Japanese, I was able to understand fully what was said if I read the Japanese subtitles, but without them, I was at lost at some parts.
I was in Japan last year and had this problem too. In cafes, I was asked simple things while people were talking and music was playing in the background. The staff wore masks too. I could reconstruct such speech in my native language, but I had no chance in Japanese.
Sayaka chan, you are so lucky to be born in that amazing country. And this was the best lesson I've ever listened to. Do more of it, if you can, sensei. I mean these "real-life situations/explanations" type of lessons.
how I discovered your TH-cam channel is by looking up how to say the word hi in Japanese no joke really I love the Japanese cultures so amazing and very interesting. Girl your TH-cam channel is so phenomenal you totally Rock/Reek of beautiful awesomeness.
Do you live in Nagoya?? That’s where I live, what a small world! If you were just visiting, I hope you had a chance to go to Osu shopping street, it’s my favorite place in Nagoya 😊 this is a really helpful video, thank you for making practical things for us ❤
I like this scenario and super practical video you made. It’s like we are learning on the ground with you. Thanks for this video it’s very informative! 😊
This kind of content is really useful! - I’ve been learning little phrases and then in Japan I get a full prose explanation dumped on me and I’m like Uhhhhhhh…. hai! 😅 -
Always such a pleasure to watch your videos. English, being a stress accent language (instead of pitch accent) is tricky and you do so well with your pronunciation! I do notice that you say SUBscribe instead of subSCRIBE, but that’s so minor, and I look forward to your clever ‘outtro’ every time!
Thank you so much for this in-depth breakdown! I really like how you explain the honorific/business polite phrases by matching up with more common versions! It really helps me remember both forms! どもありがとございます! And so many new words that are so useful and necessary but not commonly found in a textbook 😑 ❤
@@Fafner888 sigh.... Even in English you can say "Yes, I am okay" when you mean "No, I don't want a second helping of mashed potatoes." However, that does no mean that "Yes" can also mean "NO" in English...

Heading to Okinawa for the third time in a few weeks (4th to Japan). I'm really trying to improve basic communication, so this is great, along with all your videos. I love how helpful they are to a gaijin traveler, and in return, I am trying to learn to speak and understand more.
I love Japan and it's culture... They wave until you are gone!! How wonderful is that? I now worry that I would pollute the region if I visit because it's like Narnia or Shangri-la to me now.....

Wow, still just a N5 level but this kind of videos are so greatly helpful, even if native speakers speak way too fast for me but that’s so cool to practice and your explanations are super useful so once again, thanks! I subscribed
Thank you for this video.. soon I will migrate to Japan and I will need to move from Tokyo to Nagoya...your video was very helpful to me.. I want to take a bus though
i wanna learn Japanese from you ,that's cool ,I'm also learn English ,your America accent sounds cool, and the voice sounded cute while you saying "hin" ,I'm from China
Thank you for a real life example. I've been learning for a few years, but the speed at which a native person speaks would have me scrambling to understand the meaning. Although I haven't learned some of the words in the subtitle, I was able to make some guesses about what is happening. My understanding is that Japanese people speak the most syllables per time of almost any language. I hope to practice my listening skills more.
Hi im a huge fan of your bc you are helping me understanding how to learn Japanese more easier now. Actually I'm learning Japanese my own I'm wondering how to say stationary in Japanese bc I'm planning to study in Japan. TQ!!!!!
I was confused with the word chicket at 7:10 but realized what you meant as we make mistakes. I learned at another meaning of gozaimasu (gozaimasu ne?). Good gesture of waving to departing plane
A strange Question for Sayaka,l am studying Japanese for a year now and am avidly watching all your videos as l come to Tokyo to see the legendary YUSHUKAN Museum,my dream is to touch a HA-GO Type 95 tank and see an actual Mitsubishi A6M Zero then visit the famous TAMIYA Showrooms. So.....my question was in one of your videos you casually mentioned the Imperial Japanese Army had a special type of Japanese they used when speaking to each other, very formal l believe? Would you ever do a video on the IJA and how an Officer might address a Private and how a corporal might address a General in 1942? As a TAMIYA and Japanese army nut l would be so grateful! Aragato.😊
Thank you so much for the podcast! I really appreciate the Japanese subtitles on the screen but can we also have Japanese subtitles in the subtitles track? Many Japanese learners like myself use ASB players, which allows us the highlight and look up subtitles words in dictionary, as well as using Japanese subtitles to make Anki flash cards. If you can do that, it will help us a lot!
got about half of what she said, she was speacking abit fast for me. but i understood enough of what she was saying to be able to follow her instructions
That's SO weird! I fly from Tokyo to Naha at least once every year and i have never been asked to show any form of ID. For that matter, in thirty years I've never had to show ID for any domestic flight in Japan. This is a great time of year to be in Okinawa, I just got back from spending a week there.

Hey Sayaka, Lesson was really good! I just wanted to know family relations in Japaneese.... I mean what to tell mother, father, aunt, sister in law, etcetera.. Please, will you tell all these in next video?
Okinawa is still on my list to visit, will be my 4th japan trip this year and will focus mostly on Osaka, Horishima and all the way down to Kumamoto. Quick trip to Tokyo as well for a 3 day music festival. 2025 I can hopefully make it to Naha and surrounding area! What is the best time to visit for the LEAST amount of tourists? I honestly don't like crowds very much and try to avoid them. I love taking the path least travelled. When 90% go down a certain street I take the one parallel to it. It's quite fun that way.
