It gets so good. So glad your doing this. Karl has a great sense of no filter sense of humour. I think it was hanna barberra that did the cartoon work. Don’t worry about Karl. Possibly sometime you’ll get to Karl vs steve the insults. Trust me Karl does more than look after himself
Brit here! When it seems like theyre being harsh on Karl msking fun of him, most of it is just heavy banter, this is how friends show true affection over here xD
The Ricky Gervais show is absolute gold. There are some episodes that leave you hurting from laughter. I reckon I've watched the entire show a good few times now. Ricky and Stephen do give Karl a hard time for the most part, but it works and Karl often gives as good as he gets. I hope you continue to react to this show, it's a classic. Enjoy, and thanks, as always, for all the hard work.
The podcast wasn't filmed at all, so using footage wasn't possible. They later decided to chop out the best parts of the pod and cut them into a series and animate it for television, so the mock-up studio walk-in was filmed later for the intro.
@@annother3350 If they were that's the first I've ever heard and the audio from the series is the exact match to the original pod. I'm not even sure how you'd do that really as it would have to be scripted and it just wouldn't sound right.
@@blackie75 I've heard them talk about the same stories on XFM but some of them are ever so slightly different so I remember thinking 'thats weird, they must have recreated some of them but tried to make them sound genuine!'
@@annother3350 The clips from the Ricky Gervais show are not taken from the XFM radio show, they're take from the later podcast that the three made after XFM. Ricky and Steve remembered a lot of the funnier stories that Karl had told, so they made a point to bring them up in the podcast, that's why you hear some of the same stories. It was that podcast which was later chopped up and turned into the Ricky Gervais Show.
Hope they stick with all 3 series as the animation gets better & funnier.even if they do 1 a week.they've grown to be my favourite reactors🤗(apart from the Robbie Williams😓
I'm glad to see you guys are going down the Karl Pilkington rabbit hole! Looking forward to going on this journey once again with another reaction channel 😊
As a Mancunian myself, everyone has a Karl Pilkington in their life, but it's just that no one had a Steven Merchant or Ricky Gervais in their life to get them on radio & TV. He's an absolute gem.
Im from Manchester too (Middleton), and Karl reminds me of literally half of the people I knew growing up. Only he's probably smarter and more motivated lol
Same here (Trafford) . My Nana lived on the same estate as Karl. Sadly I don’t remember seeing any horses inside houses or a jogger with his balls out. I did go to Twiggy’s Dance Club a few times when they weren’t having toilets rolls delivered 😊
YES!! This show is absolute GOLD! And Jess don't worry about Ricky and Stephen 'ganging up' on Karl. Yes they roast him and it sounds brutal, but you must have noticed he's never offended or even put off by it. The more they laugh and poke fun, the more Karl just keeps going with his crazy theories and stories. That's what makes this show so good - two people with a 'conventional' world view becoming more and more astonished and exasperated by the outlandish way Karl sees things.
Ricky, Steve and Karl pretty much started off the podcast phenomenon with these shows which are almost 20 years old now. An awful lot is chopped out too, so the originals are well worth checking out. When I listened to them back in the day I always thought they'd work great with some animation. The animators absolutely nailed it and I'd imagine illustrating these conversations was a lot of fun to do. I think these shows have aged brilliantly too, mainly because they tended to stay away from politics and current affairs.
This was originally a podcast that they did did together after they finished up doing the XFM radio show together, which is a small London based radio station. They later went onto do a few specials and audiobooks which became the source material for series 3
The animation in this is brilliant. Don't let the Hannah-Barbarah style fool you. It's so detailed and obviously a labour of love. Sure, it would be nice to see their real faces but this animation is worth it.
I used to listen to their radio show while studying during grade 12 here in the UK. I was laughing out loud while doing homework. I couldn't believe how good it was
Mandy cane lane was my favourite reaction to this but Frankenstein lab, after work reactions & embrace the suck have reacted as well.but seeing these 2 will be like watching it all again😜

This will be getting better and better.. this was kind of a "pilot"..Karl was always very dedicated with the things Ricky told him to do, like "the monkey news" and so on.. wait until his diary come into spot.. This will gonna be awesome! Karl is the most unintentional funny guy ever !
Ah man I'm so glad you are doing these!!!! Please watch them all. They're absolutely amazing and get better as they progress. Karl is a national treasure.
Karl vs Steven merchant insults compilation is also hilarious when you get around to viewing it. Its the origins of how they all met on the xfm radio show. Most of these clips came from the radio show but has been edited and animated for tv 😊
Yes Jess 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 it should have been called The Karl Pilkington show!!!! I’m from England and have listened to everything RSK have done for over 20 year: KARL IS THE MAN!
I always find that folks from the U.S. find Karl being slightly bullied off-putting, but don't feel too sorry for him because he's a multi millionaire now and loved everywhere thanks to Ricky and Steve introducing him to the world.
Karl was loosely known as Ricky and Steves Producer when they did a Radio Show in 2001, Karl slowly got some on air time when Ricky would ask him some random Questions on air. Over the next few years Karl got more and more airtime as Ricky became fascinated by Karls take on things, which by 2005 evolved into a weekly podcast with the 3 of them, which made the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Downloaded Podcast in 2006. The shows have a Cult following as they are one of the earliest Podcasts and i'm sure influenced a lot of Podcasters you see Today.
Karl's friend he mentions who lives in a stately manor is Russel Brand, who in one of his old stand up routines mentioned a friend of his (a northerner) forced him to get back into rehab, which probably helped him with getting off drugs. Not sure if it's Karl, but they are/were friends and Karl is a northerner
If they loved this first episode of the Ricky Gervais show. They'll absolutely love it by the time they get to the last one. I just wish they would do some more series of it now as surely it would be easier nowadays to make these. Especially now technology has got millions of times better than it was back then.
This show is amazing. So glad you guys are watching it. This is what good mates do. Have a laugh and take the mick out of each other. Karl takes some digs at Steve as well.
Back in the day, a friend introduced me to this podcast when the first season was happening. He was OBSESSED with it and I remember, after listening to the first couple of episodes at his house, I thought it was kind of funny but not nearly as funny as he did. But, for some reason, I kept thinking about it and started listening to them on my own. Before long, I was also obsessed with it. As another commenter here said, it gets funnier the longer you listen and it quickly became one of those go-to comfort listens for me. To this day, I'll still occasionally pop on a compilation and fall asleep to it. I do agree that Ricky goes HARD at Karl in this pod (and other shows beyond it), much harder than he did in the first couple of things you watched and that can sometimes feel a little bad. On the other hand, Karl DOES talk some real rubbish and, as much as they dogpile him, you can still tell that they're actually friends. I think Ricky is just one of those people who likes to bust balls with his friends and Karl's weird theories make him the obvious focus of that. And, hey, any time you start to feel bad for Karl, remember this: It was the success of this podcast that allowed Karl to buy a second house and become financially stable. And the TV shows and whatnot that came after allowed him to travel the world, be a celebrity, and make a ton of money. All for being the "chimp" in Ricky's little experiment.
These get so much better , that was the first ever one .... The animation absolutely makes this show once you get used to it , honestly some of the stuff in these are hilarious

He had 2 professional comedians constantly making fun of him (his opinions, the way he looks, etc) for years in public (on radio programs, tv shows, interviews, etc), and he was always able to take it in good fun, shrug it off, or give it back. Most people would have crumbled, but he is clearly emotionally and mentally strong to be able to take it. There are actually compilations of fights between Steve and Karl (bits of this radio show that are not included in the HBO animated version), and in many cases Karl was much more effective at making fun of Steve than the reverse.
If you carry on watching these, just wait till you get to the Men In Black episode of ‘Stephen and Karl, all the insults.’ It is insane. I nearly pass out every time I watch it.
