I always enjoy your tips. From someone who has on again, off again, yips for the past 3 years I agree taking your mind off the actual stroke of the putter helps alleviating the yips. It is just MUCH easier said than done
I cured my putting yips and as Dave says, rhythm is SO important - I found the best way to reprogram was to practice a few with one hand (both left and right) , change my grip to "the claw", and to start putting with my eyes shut, just focusing on where to stop the club on the back swing and where to stop the club on the follow through. Took a couple of months of work on the putting green but worked, and permanently. For a while you can even putt eyes closed on the course too - best thing is your playing pals don't even know you're doing it! I still can feel edgy on a 3 footer sometimes, like I know it's going to happen, but the best thing is that if I do, no problem, just close my eyes and focus on the swing remembering that missing the putt is way less embarrassing than yipping it!

Until you wake up, you’ll literally spend the rest of your life spinning your wheels, trying shiny new tips, hoping clubs will do it or get lost in theories and concepts or wait for that ONE magic bullet--getting frustrated and not playing the kind of golf you know you can. What most golfers want is to put it all together but If you don't know how to "put it all together", the struggle will continue. Find out why here: bit.ly/2c4A7Lb
What is missed so much when talking about the yips is these "experts" always talk about putting only. People get putting, chipping, and most devastatingly the full swing yips
@@DavidBreslow I consistently get them on the driving range. I get them when I play by myself with no one around. I get them playing cornhole, throwing a small bean bag, playing darts, etc...
I have a yip or twitch in both hands so nothing works for me, I do agree with the anxiety theory but can't get rid of it, I play golf when nobody else is around.

This is so timely. I’m planning to work on my rhythm. I’m perfectly ok with driving, long irons, pitching, bunker and putting. Don’t know what happens especially around the green chipping....I’m a different person...worse than a beginner. Rhythm is the cure - looks like 👍
David Breslow do you have any recommendations for the Chipping yips? I am a fairly good golfer but have suffered for many years of the chipping yips which ruins my golfing life! Regards
I'm known as the"Straight Talk Guy" in the golf biz so here it is---My recommendation?--STOP looking for a "tip" that will "magically" get you what you want. I assume you've looked for tips many times haven't you? And yet--you STILL suffer. And now you do the same thing? Why keep doing what's not working? The "yips" begin internally and are driven by a golfers poor use of mind/body/emotion/energy. so get that part of your game in balance. Quick fixes NEVER get a golfer what they want. I always wanted to become a pro,and one day I found that my wrist was doing sth funky, sometimes I feel I would shut my club face during my backswing, and sometimes opening the club face.I had struggled for 2 years, then,I gave up.It was very tough for me to give up golf cuz I like it very much, but seems like there is no way to fix the problem
I’m having trouble pulling the trigger with my driver. I have played with pain due to neck fusion for the last couple years. Now even when I don’t have much pain it’s in the back of my mind. I can make a good practice swing but kinda freeze when I start takeaway to hit ball . Not to bad with short irons just driver . I am a good driver to when I swing normally. Any suggestions does that sound like yips ?
the label is not important--yips or whatever. If it doesn't bother you with irons--it's definitely just a "fear" you hold on to when driving. Question is ...why?
If you talk about "real yips" this is completely bullshit. I was a +2 handicapper when I was 16 but then I got the yips on putting, chipping and eventually in the full swing too. My technique was flawless but then the yips came and fucked it all up. It does not matter if i work on the mental game or on my tempo. The yips causes me to do all kinds of shit through the swing that I never did before. Its almost insulting to hear that it is a mental issue. There is an inflation of how to use the term yips, but its so destructive to say that people who really struggle with yips has a mental issue. We have a mental issue because of the yips, not the other way around. Anyone who says differently just want to make money or does not know what he is talking about.
Absolutely right! I have the yips putting on the carpet at home. It is an involuntary twitch and contrary to popular belief it is not just short putts, the further from the hole the worse the result. People who put up videos like this just have no idea, they think short putt anxiety is the yips. That is choking and different altogether. This video is a waste of time.

I have yips while putting, chipping, swinging, driving the golf cart, and anything else golf related. I start yippng as soon as I park my car.
yipee for you David. Must make for interesting rounds of golf!

Something I find interesting is when putting left hand only there is no twitch or yip. When right the hand yips just before impact.
