I started having full swing yips at the end of one round until they creeped up on almost every swing. I have this natural pause in my downswing that now has developed into I can’t start my downswing. 😅 I started the year at a 5 hdcp looking to get to scratch. Now I currently struggle to play a round without getting super frustrated. I just miss the natural rhythm of my swing which sounds simple. I will try to video myself & will not give up getting my swing back. Thanks for the encouraging words. At least I’m not the only person that is going through this mess lol
For sure! It’s so frustrating, and seemingly happens to everyone. We had a conversation with a golf instructor and pga pro (scratch golfer), and at one point he went through the yips with chipping. It lasted a while for him, and obviously super embarrassing since he could teach someone how to chip, but at the time couldn’t mentally perform. It just happens. One of his full swing tips that could help with the transition, is to do a drill where you let your arms hang, and feel like noodles, and in a continuous motion, swing back and forth, letting the rotation of your chest and body do the work, and not thinking about the transition. Hope you get through it soon, man! Thanks for your comment!
I had the yips with my woods freezing on the backswing took two years of hard work and a new swing. Firstly even as a senior I get a good turn on the backswing but shortened my swing to shoulder level but on the downswing accelerate through with another good shoulder turn. Basically concentrating on the torso and shoulders and not the overswing which is caused by excessive hand and arm input. Finally stay relaxed don’t have too many thoughts other than a decent grip and posture and swing easy. I can still get the yips but now I stop my backswing take a couple of practice swings then refocus and just think turn, turn hit through.
Yeah, overcoming the YIPS is NOT easy. That is some great advice for getting out of the YIPS, as well as good swing advice in general. Thanks for the comment!
Great video! I’ve definitely experienced this a ton. I try to do my best to have a “short-term memory”, so if I have a bad shot, I just forget it happened, because it no longer matters. I try to focus on just the shot I have in front of me right now, not worry about what it might mean for my scorecard, and just take things one shot at a time.
Brutal full swing yips going through. Mostly driver, but can creep into irons as well. My practice swing is like I want to hit it. But when I get behind the ball though it feels completely different. I can barely make the swing. I can make 20 practice swings and then address. Same thing. (Sometimes I feel like closing my eyes once addressed and then swing.) I will try some helps from the video to reprogram my brain including half swings. Let you know how it goes. -Allan
Dude, we feel the pain! And let us know how it goes as you try new things! And closing your eyes while swinging is a legit method to help with the Yips. We’d suggest testing it on the range first, but it could honestly help. Film yourself when doing that as well. Another great tip is to just get up to the ball and swing. Don’t stand over it too long, or else you’ll think too much. Also, not staring at the ball. Focus on the swing, not hitting the ball.
Going through the driver yips currently. Irons are fine and 3 wood off the deck is fine. Only happens in competition. Sucks and I don’t know what to do. Considering quitting the game that I’ve played my entire life.
Don’t quit. There are many of us going through it. The game is too great to quit. I am going through them myself. We will persevere. I had them putting but don’t yip much putting anymore. Chipping and driver yips are killing me. But I’m not giving up.

Thanks for the feedback. Just started going through this hopefully I can get over it faster then two years.

Awesome advice! Memory like a goldfish! (Ted Lasso 😂)

I’ve just started going through this. The frustrating part is that our practice swings are perfect. Let me know if anything helped. Thanks

It happens to the best. Sometimes it just takes time too. Keep it up! Wish you the best!
