I can't wait to see more on this and some insight on the ATC's! I don't understand why GIK didn't have you get their bass traps. not the 244's, but the 7 inch monster traps for broadband treatment. Your problem is all in the low frequencies and the only way to touch that is more mass? Although, taking your mezzanine out must have helped the most since your rooms dimensions aren't small, allowing the low frequencies to travel and dissipate a bit better. I'm dealing with a small room and getting to the point where I am over damping possibly. GIK gets a new order just as soon as my current panels are up, that way I don't get overwhelmed. They will last me a lifetime so the sooner I buy in, the more usage I get

Speakers I've owned; Adam A7X Macke HR824 MKii Focal Twins Amphion One18 (stuck with these for 6 years) ATC SCM25a (2021) I think thats fairly acceptable? I hope.
Literally, I haven't done room treatment whatsoever because of what you say - everyone tells me to throw stuff up on the wall but I always had this voice in my head saying "yeah but is that all? surely it's far more complicated than that" and it is, thanks for the confirmation and good luck with your mixes George!
Love this man! I think I'm going through a very similar experience. I've setup about 7 rooms at this point, and I the biggest thing I've learned everytime: My previous plan didn't work very well.
It's my dream to have a dedicated studio space one day...right now I am working in a literal bedroom studio, but that has it's advantages... The room came out beautiful, George...it matters very much that you feel comfortable in the space you spend so much time in, and comfort contributes to creativity...I would be very interested in a discussion regarding how the "flat" room sounded and what you didn't like about it as well as some kind of journal detailing your trial and error speaker journey...I just invested a tidy sum in a set of HEDD-07mk2s and their 8" subwoofer (yes, with DSP) and had a moment of regret followed by a moment of clarity regarding what I need from a set of monitors...
I am curious to see how you like the HEDD 07's. I have the first version and after years of use, the problem I have with them is that everything seems too dynamic and punchy all the time. They are too "hyped" if that makes sense, and my mixes don't translate. Perhaps closing the ports would help with that? (If I had that option)
george, you did the most amazing sounding album I have heard in my entire life with the "wrong" rockwool on your walls I think ... yeah it's sleep token sundowning :-) and I know the upcoming will be the same no matter what's on your walls and corners!
Thanks man. I’m still proud of that album - however the process of that record was tiring as a result of my space. The outcome was in spite of the acoustical design and feels very lucky now come to think of it. Future records from here are going to be special.
Really great video. I wish I could buck up the courage to contact a professional... But I'm in love with headphone mixing for the time being, it just works. And, I'll never nail the all-in-one room for both drum tracking and monitoring, so there's very little point for me to throw money at it when I'm happy with the acoustic performance of the room for drum tracking
Yeesh. I've been building out my garage as a hobby mixing studio space and I'm terrified of going through this process. I feel bad doing the free GIK thing because I live in Australia and definitely won't be able to afford buying treatment from them. But I think I've come around to the idea of getting free consultation. It's an awkward space, and I'm no professional. I should just take the dive and ask them before I finish building it and make it harder to change later. Thanks for the awesome content!

Another solution is to choose converters that offer time alignment on the outputs. Merging Technologies offer this as well as EQ on all outputs, with no latency. Made tuning my room a breeze, without having to search for different monitors/sub that had onboard DSP. But I do understand that swapping converters, and changing companies/protocol is a big move in itself. Just something to note as an alternative for people earlier in the process. Awesome video!

Thats great i say thankyou,i m doing everything on headphones and in ears,and was thinking about some speakers and treatment, but now i should start thinking how to do diy properly in order to not regret after a year or so!! I would actually love to see more in depth of this ,like u were saying in the end!
This is really fantastic information. I have fought with sonar works off and on as i also had some large 8-12 DB cuts and moves that left the music i was listening to really odd. I am not a professional mixer... i make youtube videos for fun, and play guitar, but I still wanted a treated room. I do wish i had contacted GIK from the start instead of buying what i THOUGHT i needed from another vendor. This won't be my last "studio" so... i will be checking them out next time.

Already said this with someone else but I’ll write it again I don’t mind :) I’m not using sonarworks now - I’ve fallen in love with the space as it sounds naturally. Which is a nice freedom to be afforded.
@@GeorgeLeverG1 What I meant was, it would be good to see the new measurement on the sonar software. Not for you to actually use, but for us to see the old frequency responses (in the un corrected room) vs the new response curve (in the corrected room). If your room correction had worked, we would see a much flatter response curve.
Mr. Lever: you are the best producer and mixing engineer today. How did you get the vocal effect in “Fall for Me” by Sleep Token. Absolutely brilliant.
Curves are one point of information but aren’t the most important thing when considering all aspects. The room is, however. Now +/- 2.5db the whole way through. For reference.
Involving an acoustic consultant is the best thing i ever did for my room, but one of the worst things i did to my wallet. And i'm going to do it all again since i'm moving houses and my working space this november. I'm looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time. In my current room there's about 6 CUBIC meters of rockwool, which i bought second hand and had no packaging. i really don't want to deal with that again. On the other hand, i've learned from this room and will do even better on the new one. Q's: How much does the pointy roof and the roof construction affect the acoustics? Did it make the acoustic design a lot more complicated than a room with a flat ceiling?
Having the angled roof made finding the sweet spot for the speakers very hard. However when using a sub and being able to time that sub. It became a more straight forward process. Just had to take a lot of sweeps and make notes haha. I hope your new room goes well!
@@GeorgeLeverG1 I've had the same thing here: Somehow the height of the speakers is critical in this room, i'm suspecting the slanted roof. And those sweeps, man.... hundreds of them i did and hundreds i will do again. Thanks for your response man!
I wanted to hear more about the room 😂✌️ for future reference.. rn I'm mainly mixing on headphones cause: I don't have monitors, I use a pair of old sony bookshelf speakers(1) and it's a makeshift 4x6 room made with reused aluminium n cement sheets so the treatment is homemade n cheap Amazon foams (2). I do recording and mixing for the local rappers in my area. Shites I'm rambling, sorry. 🙏

I haven’t done sonarworks since the update. I ended up falling in love with the room after all the improvements :) Sleep token NTM won’t ever happen I don’t think. There’s something more exciting on the horizon anyway ;)

I took my gik setup and built my monitors into an attack wall. Sounds great
