"It's not a very competitive field"
ears: *start burning*
It's true though! There's you and me and...who else?
half of these comments are about you, and here you are. Halfway down the page lol.
@@paperbagman8913 I have never heard of most of those. 'Countless others' doesn't...count. Redlettermedia? Yeah, they pioneered these videos, but they suck now.
@@paperbagman8913 Nothing you responded with addressed the point. RedLetterMedia, Austin McConnell, Sarah Z or the myriad of others you mention have done such rigorous deep dives into Bay's filmography, or advocated for his style the way that Willems and Lindsay (to a much lesser extent) has. Watch the video before you give the rest of us second hand embarrassment next time
HuskyTusk cool mate, good luck on future endeavors
Patrick: I am TH-cam's eminent scholar of Michael Bay movies
Lindsay Ellis: [trembles with rage]
What... GAME is he playing at here?!?!?!?!
*One* of TH-cam's eminent scholar of Michael Bay movies.
it's true tho
Wow, this video really is a game-changer for the channel-finally revealing which one is Jake and which one is Matt!
Ah, another man of high class avatar usage.
"Late Night Talk Show hosts are becoming TH-camrs".
That's a sentence I never thought I'd hear.
Conan has been TH-camr for a long time
ComiXProvider FTW_02 James Corden dominates TH-cam for a lil bit with Carpool Karaoke until that moved to Apple
@@TheZooropaBaby Yeah Conan was FORCED to do it. Tonight Show has a few YT things but Jimmy only does cameos for it.
@@darkthorpocomicknight7891 right, Conan kind of had to find alternative outlet outside of TV because he's popular amongst people who dont watch TV that much....I really like his remotes and that was only possible because Conan is aware that having late night show on TV isnt some rock-solid career.
The real tea is Patrick having better audio quality and not waiting awkwardly for laughter from am audience that isn't there
"JJ Abrams has no new ideas." That absolutely sums up everything I have come to realize about him
mattjackson382 ...yeah. I mean he’s not hateful. But yeah.
Yup, I came to that realization after watching the last Jedi
A-Train the Analog Kid he didn’t direct TLJ.
The Emperor's new clothes line (though Film Crit Hulk got there first with a better line) was all too true.
Star Trek 2009 was more inspired than Rise of Skywalker. FIGHT ME!

No thank you
Is anybody else sad that Jake's Politics Corner didn't get a funny stinger at the end?
Brennan Dowd why wasn’t the patron part not about discussing Patrick’s patrons as different characters in some satirical political hitpiece?
LIBERATE JAKE!
I feel lied to and betrayed
I hear it was cut at the last minute do to obscenity. Just kidding of course, Jake's awesome.
As a newly minted fan who spent a disproportionate amount of time the last couple weeks watching the last three years or so of vids you've made, putting out a followup on many vids that I'd just watched feels like fanservice made for me specifically. And I appreciate that.
You might also enjoy the channel "Filmento"
I don't know what it is about Patrick but this guy understands comedy like few others. He is underratedly hilarious
He's got the dry wit of the British man and the timing of a midwesterner
He understands so many different aspects of films that I literally think he needs to start a Master Class. I'm more geared towards creating comics but I take notes from Patrick frequently
Nathan Rodić he’s got AMAZING timing. There’s this line in his Fast and Furious video where he goes “at one point The Rock should just throw a car” and I laugh every time I think about his delivery of that line
Charl is the Ryan Reynolds of Patrick's channel.
I love Charl!
"JJ Abrams is great at imitating the things he likes" very true
I literally told my wife that Six Underground was Michael Bay doing Tony Scott, so the moment Patrick said it, she turned to me and said, "And that's why we watch this channel, he knows what's up."
JJBell7777 I miss Tony Scott
But he's always been trying to do Tony Scott and falling well short.
@@WasimSaleem I don't so honestly. But there is an overllap - especially mindless car chases. But Tony knows how to work a small room. Bay needs open spaces ALL THE TIME imo

the coconuts segment was the definitely highlight. it brought a sense of charisma and energy into the talk show that was very clearly missing. this is the kind of writing and performance i expect from Patdemic! emotional, endearing, heart warming, shell shocking. just absolute S tier youtube-work. Truly coconuts is the dark souls of talk show segments!
I think Lindsay Ellis would fight you for that Michael Bay scholar title.
See how I glitter
She ate the whole plate!
Thanks I hate it
She remembered it because the dudes don't.
Hal, it’s about cats.
You said Kylo goes off to study Premed. He literally heals Rey! lol
“How can it be a Batmobile if it isn’t black?”
The first ever one was red.
almost like it was a joke ay
@@justinszabo5205 Batman hates jokers.
Really? Huh.
@@pavarottiaardvark3431 That...yeah, alright, that works
LOL! I googled it. This checks out. According to New Atlas, "The first one in the comic books was a red convertible that graced the pages of Detective Comics in February 1941..."
Yeah, Rocketman being an actual musical really helps it set itself apart from all the other musician biopics of recent years. It allows these musical numbers to really express something honest and specific about him, especially since it's able to use his own music to do so, that the typical formulaic biopic template so often fails to do. Taron Egerton is also a big plus for this, who even does most of his own singing for the film which a lot of these prestige biopic stars get away with not doing and somehow still got awards for (*cough* Rami Malek)
im also really glad that with elton john being alive and an executive producer, the filmmakers decided "yes this is a biased account of his life!!!" which also ties in well with the musical and fantasy aspects of the movie.
Even the choice of Pinball wizard witch was a cover he did for the movie Tommy, was a smart choice
I still can’t believe Taron wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar, he won a Golden Globe then nothing, not even a nomination. Such a great film.
Agree, the choice of making it a musical was great. I liked the way the songs were picked carefully and part of the storytelling, basically expressing Elton's feelings at that moment in time. Biopics often fail to show the creative process but using the songs as reflections of the artist's emotional state was a good alternative, you get insight into the context in which the music might've possibly been written (whether it's accurate or not).
Everyone talking about JJ Abrams after Star Wars IX is me talking about him after Star Trek into Darkness.
I love Into The Darkness sue me
THANK YOU FOR GIVING SKIMBLESHANKS THE CREDIT HE DESERVES
That's two straight videos with the "Ernest Goes to Africa isn't racist" pitch.
...Why do I think this'll happen eventually?
Oh it's coming there is no way Jake or Matt are letting that one go.
Pat and the Torpeys have a habit of pitching joke ideas that sound awful and then giving them some thought and realizing they actually have merit. Not to blow anyone up, but I think they've spent too much time analyzing film to come up with genuinely bad, or at least empty, takes.
Still better than Jim in Ventura's "African" film that was racist yet pretty funny in places LOL
I like how Rocketman used its framing device. Let’s be honest, pretty much every other music biopic just begins in the present, then it goes into the past until we reach the present. Rocketman used its framing device in a way that actually made the film feel like it was about something. Bohemian Rhapsody just felt like a series of things that happened. Rocketman, in using its framing device, actually felt like it was about his battle with drugs. It also felt like a story told through the eyes of Elton John, more than it as a story about him.
The movie still starts in the present and goes into flashback, but the use of musical and fantasy scenes makes it unique compared to traditional music biopics
Half the comments: IT reviews when?
Other half of the comments: Kevin Smith review when?
Me: what about those batmobiles tho?
Danilo Furtado what about shooting Jake out of a canon?
I’d still prefer the 2D version of Cats Steven Spielberg planned on making before this monstrosity.
"i have something you don't ... good audio quality" sick burn! XD
When you only wanted to hear about Malick, but you have an epiphany and realise you actually came for Patrick and you watch the whole video anyway so as not to miss any of his fine jokes.
Agree with the comment on Rocketman. What I really enjoyed about it was that despite the rehashing the biopic formula, it felt more like a celebration of a massive artistic mind than an actual biopic
This has become my favorite Patrick H Willems video by default thanks to the intro.
The movie broke me so much that when Mr. Mistoflees finally pulled off his magic trick I cried. Seriously, it was the most I've been invested in a scene from a movie last year.
Wait back up did he say a video on Kevin Smith and the IT movies
Yep
This pandemic can't end fast enough.
I've been rewatching this entire quarantine talk show series that you and your team did and I have to say, it is some of the best film analysis this channel has produced or any other channel for that matter. Quarantine was the crucible by which we have seen some of your best work.
The Sideways video analysing the music in Cats is amazing.
Michael Bay will be the one to direct the MCU’s Fantastic 4. It’s the only logical next step.
Darth Vader voice:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOÒOO!!!!!
Watching 6 Underground, I was aware that there was a load of high quality, expensive stunt work going on just outside of the frame.
HOLY SHIT I HAD THAT BATMAN RETURNS BATMOBILE AND I DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER IT UNTIL NOW
The nostalgia hit I didn't know I wanted, but hoo boy did I want it
This channel is like Nostalgia Critic for advanced learners
I'm so glad to hear you liked A Hidden Life. I thought it was one of the most moving, philosophical films of the last ten years, and felt the three hours flew by. I think people will appreciate it more in the coming years.
I thought my smile muscles couldn’t work, I was beginning to forget what pure joy felt like....but that intro made me laugh so hard! I love it! This is just really goddamn great Patrick 👏💗😂
Second watch, and that opening theme song was still 👏so👏fucking 👏rad👏 Goddamn. Can that be in every video from now on because it’s GOLD.
The thumbs up at Paddington on the tv makes me laugh so hard, I don’t even know whyyyy!
Matt’s interlude segment is the best of any talk show PERIOD
You’ll be happy to know I actually laughed during the “wait for laughter” pause
Your point about Abrams hit the nail on the head, thank you so much!
This has been the most entertaining video you have ever made! I belly laughed at every single one of the jokes, with the false cutaways being my particular favorite bits.
Keep doing these! They are brilliant!
You really summed up what I felt about JJ, I always felt he's a technician with nothing new to add to the conversation. Also I really feel like you about how Rocketman is better then Bohemian Rhapsody (the movies at least)!
You could also see it as a redemption story for the director, who was forced to piece Bohemian Rhapsody together after Bryan Singer was fired.
I am always so happy to hear Patrick talk about Felicity. That show was my life as a middle school girl wishing to go to New York.
"you know what you don't have? *Good audio quality.* "
HELL YEAH. Those celeb and talk show hosts got crappy audio. Even Trevor Noah didn't know how to properly edit the script and video until more than a month.
You nailed that Fast&Furious segment, right on
The fact that you predicted Kylo Ren literally becoming a medicine student honestly makes me feel like I'm being watched right now
4:25 I really really laughed hard during that pause! hahaha, thank you!
I just love Patrick's videos man. That is all.
The fact that he can talk about JJ Abrams, or Tom Cruise or The Rock for 40 mins straight and get me excited tells a lot about his mastery of creating his personal brand. The sad part is that there's no way to deliver a satisfying throughput of videos THIS high quality for the YT Algorithm.
So don't be sad about not having a million subs, Patrick. You have 300K loyal ones
My favorite 90's Kenner Batmobiles were the animated one with the removable jet and also the Batman Forever one with the lights! I still remember getting that last one for Christmas and taking it for a drive in the snow, but I always was jealous of the one that could change from -mobile to -wing to -boat!
And special mention to the Batwing from Forever, I've still got that one hanging on my wall.
As a lifelong fan of Lost, I can confirm the bulk of what made the show what it was came from not only Damon Lindelof but also Carlton Cuse.
holy crap, you guys are on fire this year!! huge props for keeping the channel fresh and entertaining!
I know you're disappointed that you can't make the videos you planned, but you're reacting well. It's fun and improvisational. You're talented enough to be creatively nimble. I honestly have laughed far more with the last few videos without losing the meat. Thank you for pushing through.
Please make more Keanu podcast episodes. If The Infinity Podcast can, why can't Keanu. We need you guys.
"Go for a walk!"
"I was drawn to nature"
Thanks so much for putting this out. Any video from you right now is pure gold.
i literally just shared to my friends your series on michael bay a couple minutes ago, patrick. and now you post this.....
Man do I love me some Vin Diesel movies, they're always "bad" but they have so much love and care and effort behind them that they become great. Always fun to watch.
I have huge respect for the guy, he always gives 110% and I've never seen a movie he did that I didn't enjoy.
The new Bloodshot movie is a really good example for me too, yeah sure, the plot is whatever but man those environments and that mechanical design, so well crafted, and Vin was insanely entertaining doing his usual Vin Diesel thing, seems to me like everyone who worked on that film must have had a lot of creative freedom and most likely had a total blast making it.
I honestly think this heart and passion is something that's been missing in a lot of the "bigger" movies of the past decade or so.
Not every movie needs to be deep or smart or the biggest thing ever, some things can just be a fun ride and I think Vin Diesel really gets that.
I really don't think anyone else can make a better Sunday afternoon movie than him right now.
As a hardsurface designer aspiring to work in the film industry as a prop and environment artist I really think that working in one of his movies would be one of the most enjoyable experiences I could ask for.
Everybody wants to work on Star Wars or the MCU and while that would be a great and fulfilling experience it probably wouldn't be nearly as fun.
While Charl stared into my soul I instinctively covered my neck like I was in danger.
WOAH WOAH WOAH -- THERE'S GONNA BE A KEVIN SMITH ANALYSIS???? CAN I PLEASE BE A PART OF THAT???
I want to be a part of it.
So what you're saying is that Matt Reeves and Damon Lindelof are J.J. Abrams' older, more responsible brothers.
All of Patrick's takes are solid here, but I am legit salivating for more on Rugrats
Hey Patrick, you should do a video on Bad Boys For Life and examine how people someone might mimic Bays style of the filmmaking and whether or not they pull it off.
Giving an in depth analysis of the latest Michael Bay movie with a copy of Little Women -- complete with a flowery hardback cover -- sitting on the desk; this is the kind of transcendent TH-camry thing that Jimmy Fallon will never match.
Malick's recent films are good though. To the Wonder, in particular, is a masterpiece. People just like Malick when his films are more narratively driven, not even having anything to do with the importance of the subject of those films, just that they're easier to digest because of their narrative keeping the ideas easier to follow. I think this really constrains his work though. If there was any filmmaker whose style is perfect for less narratively focused films like To the Wonder, Song to Song, and Knight of Cups it's Malick's. His brand of poetic pontificating with grand romanticized camerawork is the perfect form to make films that are less narrative driven and almost entirely theme driven like those three. They don't get the credit they deserve. Malick isn't back, he never left.
Better Luck Tomorrow still is one of my favorite movies. I saw it in the theater and owned it on dvd.
I’d love to see a video like this every few years when it becomes relevant again.
That segment with Matt actually had an interesting idea in it about how successful franchises reach a point where they’re just being resuscitated for the sake of sweet-sweet moolah. I think it could be interesting to see a video about when a franchise should be laid to rest before it gets bad...love watching your videos Patrick!
This is better than every single Talk Show host attempt at youtube. And I say that as a massive Seth Meyers fan.
Keep you parents healthy at any cost Patrick! ANY COST!
100% funnier than all late night talk show hosts combined!
Well done sir! (Plus Torpey's) 👏☺
Really digging the TV-Esque format, hope it's not just a one time gag.
When Patrick says Skimbleshanks is his favorite dance number, you know I'm gonna look that one up like immediately.
I rly liked Matt’s Segment... AND his glasses!
following up from my comments on yr JJA-Felicity vid -- that's sweet, Sweet Vindication about that 2018>2020 Star Wars prediction XD - i was howling at the screen the other day, at 2018 P(H)W - from a big fan, big thx to you & the whole team✨
Thanks for making me belly laugh (multiple times) today. I needed that.
"...It's not a very competitive field"
Idk, man, Lindsey Ellis and "The Whole Plate" might have words about that and your claim to peak Michael Bay expertise.
I have resisted signing up for curiosity stream/nebula.
This #Ad is the one that convinced me to sign up.
Well Done.
You're actually a really good actor? How have I not noticed this? The batmobile bit was great.
Suggestion to call it the Fast and Fury-verse.
Also agree with everything you said about Bay but just seeing the clips makes me want to watch it again, because it's just so beautifully shot.
I know this quarantine sucks, but your parents are lovely cinnamon rolls, and seeing them in your videos makes me happy.
It’s also worth noting John Reid is a character in Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman which ALSO ties into your video on accidental cinematic universes.
Damn you nailed the Michael Bay segment as well. Also, The Rock looked great in Pain & Gain, now he looks crazy unreal
Honestly, I think this is my favourite one of your videos. Maybe because what your doing is more obvious or now that I think I know what they are meant to be I've bought in.
Thank you for somehow maintaining both the quality and production value of your work during this horrible asshole time we're all living
Missed you! But had me worried at first... 😂 Good work, guys!
This is now officially my favorite Patrick Willems vid. And I'm so looking forward to Matt Wines!!! How perfect is that topic right now, and how better to tell it than by getting hammered on mediocre wine.
The BATMAN RETURNS Batmobile, IS by far one of the best, but #1 still goes to the B:TAS Batmobile.
Hands-down.
Five minutes in, and this has already made my day. Thank you for all the hard work!
Love your analysis of F8! Not to talk about the intros to the video: they are genuinely hilarious!
This series got me through the 6 months I was quarantined indoors. I'm feeling super nostalgic right now. Crazy as it may sound but those 6 months were awful but I really did alot of self discovery during that time and looking back on it, I kind of miss having no responsibilities for a while lol I miss Patdemic
ok i somehow missed this even tho i’ve watched all your other videos
1. wow! the origin of the format!
2. A DISHWALLA REFERENCE?!?!
Your point about the Rock's lack of sincerity in FF movies is dead-on. Something huge felt like it was missing in the last one, I thought it was just Lin not directing but honestly, the change Rock brought to the vibe was also a huge part. Glad Lin is back, glad Han is back, bring it on.
As a self styled quarantine alcoholic I felt your drinking segment really spoke to me. 5 out of 4 stars. Keep that bit.
The best Batmobile is from the Super Powers line in the 80s
Patrick, I really needed this. When I journal my gratitude list for the day, you will be in it.
From a big Terrence Malick fan, I say Thank you, Patrick! By the way, I like the new comprehensive newslike follow-up episode ..
That Batmobile was peak. The missile in the front? Chef's kiss.
That was the best thing Matt has ever done. Give him more improv.
At last, my most anticipated film of April 2020!
For now, best season of Patrick Willems !
Before quarantine started, one of my local theaters added Cats to their monthly midnight movie nights. Imagine going to a midnight show of Cats...
We had one thing in my art theater out in Iowa City. It was a RIOT. Best time I’ve had at a theater in years.
