@@kristophertrout7328 ...a good job because on any other bike it would have toppled over as Freddie quite clearly hadn't locked it back into position. Easy mistake to make but I was waiting for expensive crunching noises as it toppled off the side stand but the "lock" feature you mentioned came to the rescue...on any other bike it would have been a disaster! 😲😲😲
The days of going to work on a motorbike in the middle of winter, getting into a million layers, and the cold and water still getting through it, hands so cold that they hurt when the feeling returned, remember it well and don't miss it. Still ride in the winter but these days my bike has heated grips and seat and an alternator and battery that can handle it and the lights and heated gear, which is a game changer, plus biking gear has improved beyond recognition in the last 40 years.
For everyone concerned about the side stand, Harleys have a patented design for a somewhat “locking” side stand design called the jiffy stand. The side stand won’t move backwards when the motorcycle is on it, as such you can actually park on a slight downslope. It looks angled farther back because they place it farther towards the front wheel to balance the weight better, and hence it is angled farther back so it is easier to reach from the seat, especially for riders with shorter legs.
Yes. Used properly, a Harley will never roll off its sidestand. I think it's the best one in the business. Ask me about the time an FJR at the gas pumps rolled forward off its side stand and crashed into my Ducati Multistada. 🤬

Love the story about riding to the B&Q job, Freddie… you earned your winter stripes by the sounds of it, something that many riders don’t, their first biking experiences involving a big, shiny new bike on HP with a full set of cold weather gear stuck on the bill. It reminded me of when i was in my early twenties in the 90s, when I, like, you, couldn’t afford proper winter gear and just rode in what i could pick up cheaply off Loot. I had a girlfriend in Lincolnshire at the time, and I did the ride from Manchester way every weekend… freezing cold over the Pennines in winter, literally frozen to the little VT250 i had back then. My trick was a pair of boots about 3 sizes too big, with layers of socks, tin foil and newspaper to try to keep my feet warm…. Character -building stuff which makes you a PROPER biker. I recall getting my fist bike with heated grips, 10 years later, at a time when i was bit more flush and had managed to get a full set of Hein Gericke winter gear on the drip… it was sheer luxury, and I wondered how I ever manged back in my 20s, other than the fact we were young, broke and foolish. Keep up the good work.

I've lived in Vietnam and Thailand for 8 years, the food will be far better yet than what you've tasted. There's big triumph and harley communities now in Vietnam and Thailand. I rode with ease on my Honda Cb500x and Triumph Street Twin for years. Dangerous riding yes, but also very beautiful
I remember passing my motorcycle test on a freezing cold February day in 1977 in Leighton Buzzard. I can still see the examiner huddled in his sheepskin coat watching me ride around. To this day I’m convinced I only passed because he didn’t want frostbite. I was wearing jeans, Belstaff jacket and open face helmet. I was only 17, though, and didn’t feel the cold.
Very nice bike, but you can have comfort and feel good at the end of a long ride at a much lower cost. I rode back home from the last ABR the weather, wasn't that good, cold & rain to Cumbria. On my 2016 Triumph Trophy SE, heated seats, grips, electricity adjusted screen, and bluetooth radio connection to my intercom. I passed other riders struggling in the conditions. When i got home, i had a cuppa and cut the grass. Even riding around the Highlands in crap is no chore. All for 9k. Have a good visit to the bike show. We need all the support with dealers going bust, especially HD. 👍
I did a similar trip from Epsom to stoke on Trent on a 125cc the temp was just above freezing, thought my fingers was going to fall off, to make things worse it started to snow half way into the journey,
I only had a 125cc in the 90s. Out in all sorts of terrible weather. A very good learning situation. Clothing, behaviour on the road, observation. Learned a lot then. Not out in bad weather as much anymore. A new winter hack maybe?
@ I own the interceptor and purchased a 2013 Honda forza 300 for the winter months, it has great weather protection and surprisingly nippy for a 300cc scooter
Well done Freddie , you have turned the MCN show into a bit of an adventure. I thought you would be freezing on the bike so fascinating to see that it was do-able. Glad there was no snow.
The original Kawasaki Concours (GTR) was a great winter bike. Just flip the ankle vents around and add the handle bar riser blocks. That would put your hands in the sweet spot from the air pocket created by the mirrors. 😎
I rode Vietnam north to south on moped back in the 90's. Really pleased I survived the experience just barely. Spent a lot of time wearing swimming goggles under my cowboy hat due to beating sun and unexpected torrential rain. Which I recall, would hit the hot tarmak and instantly evaporate into steam. The bikes would then cut thru the steam like knives in butter leaving trails, was very vivid. A lot of time spent on dirt roads in dusty dark conditions too, and a few experiences left me with some light-hearted ptsd. Really a very different world over there, I hear Lao is the place to go now. And if you find yourself around there, don't miss out on Angkor Wat.
Great vid. Lucky boy, what a treat HD laid on for you. That side stand scared me, even with the special locking function they have. Regarding your waterproofs, if you havent already binned them, try some NikWax Tech Wash to re-proof them before binning. You can buy it from any decent outdoors shop. Worth a try and will be cheaper than a new set if it works on that material. I went to the NEC Bike show in 2024 (first time in about 5 years), and decided to grab something to eat on the complex while the traffic died down after the show. Worked well and had a nice straight run home by the time I had finished.
Great bike,Freddie. You make a very good video, covering those basic things. But things,we all have to do when riding a bike. Freezing conditions can be extremely dangerous,so everything has to be done(clothing etc)to stay safe. Cool music to go with cool bike, cheers,Den.
Enjoyed that run Freddie. Something about a hardship run. Harley looks lovely and functional too. I hope they get some sales/interest from this. I will look at for that model.
I remember your recent search for a helmet, this would've been a great time to have a pinlock insert. No affiliation but after trying tons of different makes and models I ended up with a Shoei Neotec 3, added a second helmet kit and kept my cardo. It's the most practical and comfortable helmet I've had.
Glad you had a nice trip up Freddie as you said to me (Kim) on the Royal Enfield stand it was lovely to meet you and have a chat about the Royal Enfield Classic........ Looking forward to seeing more excellent videos that Harley is definitely a beast. Hope you got back OK in the freezing temperature or played it safe going back to the Hotel, Great Bikeshow.
A pleasure to meet you, Kim:) The Enfield lineup is stunning. The green-ish Classic 650 and Bear with a green frame were my favourites❤️ I did end up riding the whole way back and my hands were agony🥶
Know that Crowne Plaza, stopped there for a speaking gig at the National Bike Museum once, hope you find time to visit it before you head back Freddie, if you do you need to ride to as cannot walk to it from the NEC complex, all waterproof gear can lose protection, you can top up with a waterproof spray, a helmet with pinlock at this time of year is priceless 💡 JB 🏴
Very envious to go to a bike show. Weather looks hideous but those big cruisers with all the heated seats, grips and vests is the way to go. I personally can’t bring myself to ride a Harley - nor from now on drive a Jaguar - but any comfortable or warm bike in winter is a joy. Looking forward to seeing the review of the bikes at the show… want to see the CF Moto CM450, the Indian Chief, the R9, the Kove 800x Rally, and the Aprilia 660 Tuareg Rally I am buying two of these and very excited
I have done multi-week tours with my wife riding shotgun in Europe and the USA on Harley touring bikes and you just can’t beat them for that type of riding. I also putter around England’s A and B roads in Yorkshire and the Peak District on my RE Classic 350 and love it. This just goes to show that the type of bike you use massively affects how you will enjoy the journey 😀
Morning Freddy, the moment you stepped off the bike it moved slightly forward. I seriously got anxious this would drop.... Enjoy your rides, great video as always.
I only realised this while watching the video back😳 I’m certain I triple checked it to make sure it was as far forward as possible… but I am doubting myself a bit now
Must admit my Hideout 2 piece kit whilst expensive has been the best investment in keeping warm and dry. I also swear by bar end mitts, whilst I look like a 80s bike courier they keep your hands dry and that’s half the battle.
I second those mitts, Stuart. Used them for years on a tatty old winter hack, in the days before I could afford a bike with heated grips. Look awful, but great as a cheap reliable way of keeping your hands warm. Maybe they’ll make a comeback!
Freddie I have one tip , suggestion ….to enlighten you about ….my winter riding was transformed last year with a rechargeable heated gilet ….they are awesome and keep you toasty for 8 hours ….honest poss the best pressie I ever got and that coupled with heated grips make winter riding so delightful
I want to share a tip I got and have tried with good result. If you don’t have pinlock then use car hardwax both on the inside and outside of the visor. No fog. And just look left and right while riding in rain to get the waterdrops of. It works great. I had Sonax liquid hardwax standing around and used that. Cheers!😊
The only issue I have with the Oxford rail seal oversuit is it doesn't cover the boots or have a strap to go under the boot. It therefore can tend to ride up the leg.
You are tougher than me. My bike is stowed for the winter. It's not even snowing yet. You can wander around the show, looking for a deal on some new rain gear. Nice to see you enjoying the Harley.
I have 2 Harley’s Fred and the side stands are all the same, luckily they drop into a slot to stop them rolling forward and falling over, doesn’t stop you walking bake to the bike and double checking though 😅 Gorgeous bike mate hope you enjoy 👍🏻
You were definitely in the right place to get some replacement waterproofs Freddie! I went to Motorcycle live yesterday, great show and some good deals to be had on motorcycle gear.
Reallly lovely vlog, brilliant storytelling man. That side stand stays rather far back to the flick up point eh? 😂 I was worried you’d be crushed for a moment. What a monster of a bike - couldn’t agree more with the screen for winter - cuts the wind completely. It’s a beautiful thing.
Personally I would keep that helmet for summer riding Freddie. I have used various Caberg flipper lids with pinlock & sun visor, no misting, good when the sun (remember that?) is low in the horizon & you don't need to take it off when fuelling. Plus they are cheap & get a 5 star SHARP rating.
You should TELL people to like and subscribe throughout the video, given the quality of your cinematography and storytelling I feel you should have more views/subs
@@neilurquhart8622 they do need to be told/reminded or they wont do it! and ofcoarse only if they like the video, should I edit my comment for you? Would that make you feel safe?
@@T4ToWeRz I don’t feel ‘unsafe’ at all!!🥸. Great video Freddie, glad you like the Harley. Shame so many dealerships are closing down, my local one in Southampton closed last week as did the one in Plymouth. Look out for a pin-lock for your visor, looked like you were steaming up a bit! Hope you enjoyed the show and heated gloves as a minimum for winter riding. Looking forward to seeing your reviews of the show.
The 2024 Road Glide is the best Harley ever I’ve ridden (not done the CVO yet). Absolutely phenomenal bike and all you need is to change the exhaust and it’s good to go. Amazing navigation system too. Super comfortable. I’m from Kingston ha!
The stand has a mechanism that makes it stay locked when it supports weight, it does not close when going forward, and even the motorcycle has a tendency to stay that way. I was scared with mine at first too.
I can't understand why decades of motorcycle technology hasn't yet produced an automatic retractable centre stand, controlled by button, for these monster bikes.
@@radicalcartoons2766 Harley make them also if you can believe it a pair of extra wheels that fold down to hold the bike up saw a small girl with those at a Dealer once .
As an older rider, I have done enough painful winter riding in the past and now I wear Gerbing heated jacket and trousers underneath a laminated gortex textile suit. In lower temperatures I also wear a puffa jacket and leggings between the heated suit and the textiles. This conserves power from the bike. Finally for winter riding, heated grips are essential kit imho. I haven't tried heated gloves, I prefer grips powered from the bike.
I think I would have done the first bit last as a re-enactment lol. I used to ride over the hills to Barrow in Furness in the winter and fell off once when I pulled into a petrol station and my legs failed to go down fast enough haha. Embarrassment gave me the strength to pick my bike up. There's always someone watching. At least it happened before the internet and phone cameras. Lovely bike you have there. xx
@@Howard1776thirded. Absolutely the best piece of biking gear I’ve ever bought. Although the Klim windproof, Daytona boots and Shoei helmet custom fitted using their proprietary fit system are close.
@@FreddieDobbsJust buy them Freddie. You will need the women’s version for the trousers because of your long legs and slim frame - no that’s not a joke that’s what I bought. Motolegends are very good on sizing.
Hey Freddie! Your gonna be hooked with that RG, they are a game changer, just the weight for me its a heavy bike, but they glide for sure. I reckon its because your a host on Ride Time Radio bikers for bikers radio why Harley treated you so well…..😂 remember we built the station for RG gliders!!
Heated grips and heated clothing are brilliant, youd be toasty in a Keis jacket. Alpinestars goretex tour boots are a revelation too, warm dry feet no matter the weather.
Freddie, you have to ride the hà Giang loop in nothern vietnam. I did it on a little honda a few years ago. It was so special, outstanding landscape and nice food everywhere. Greetings from Berlin
Harley side stands have a tab that locks in at the top, so once engaged the stand cannot move. Mind you you need to confirm it is locked in! and I'm not sure it was in this case..
Seeing you struggle with your helmet and steamed up visor, (not for the first time), don't you think it's about time to get a decent helmet with a pin-lock visor? So much better, and therefore safer!
What a comfy looking bike!!! Wouldn’t have been so eager to do that journey on my Ducati Scrambler….. As for your waterproof Freddie, have you tried washing it with Granger’s tech wash and reproofer? Use it in the washing machine instead of normal detergent and then tumble dry on low heat and it restores your waterproofing. Over time the fabric gets dirty and water no longer beads on the surface, which allows it to ‘wet out’ which forms a barrier and the heat and water vapour inside can’t escape out, Then you get ‘boil in the bag’ syndrome. So it’s possible you got wet due to sweat/water vapour inside the waterproofs not being able to evaporate as it normally would, rather than your jacket having let water in from outside. It’s also possible your kit is just too old and now knackered but I’ve got 10 year old waterproofs that I tech wash/reproof and they’re still going strong. Might be worth a try, or just treat yourself to new ones! Can recommend Scott ones in that case. Safe travels, Ben.
I did 3 winters. No visor, goggles or fairing. I don't bother getting my Harley wet, muddy or salty. It's 26 and not rusty,I have every intention of getting another 20 years out of it. Might pick up a vfr750 to stretch out the seasons.
Nikwax do a large range of waterproofing compounds you either spray on or add to the washing machine. I've kept my waterproofs alive for years using their stuff. (No connection to me by the way) Also you should look at Zerofit baselayer tops (amongst other gear they do). Never known anything like them. SO warm. (again, no affiliation to me). Keep up the good work. Chris from Hastings. p.s Do pop to Hastings if you're down this way again, you'd love the old town.
YES. With the Gerbing heated inner full jacket you're recommended to take the liner out of your jacket. This is what I have done and it's excellent using just one long sleeve base layer. I use Gerbing heated gloves, inner full jacket and socks. The inner jacket needs to be a snug fit to cling to your body.
I have just bought a heated waist coat to wear under jacket & some heated gloves as I commute 90 mile round trip most days, and yes keeps me warm, was riding in 3 degrees Celsius with only a thin merino t shirt underneath & pretty toasty, brand I have is tucano urbano but plenty of options out there

A pleasure to meet you, Kim:) The Enfield lineup is stunning. The green-ish Classic 650 and Bear with a green frame were my favourites❤️ I did end up riding the whole way back and my hands were agony🥶
Welcome back to Blighty. I’m sure the weather is a shock to the system 😂
Thanks John, and yes it it!🥶
Master and Commander! What a great movie!
Looking forward to seeing the review of the bikes at the show… want to see the CF Moto CM450, the Indian Chief, the R9, the Kove 800x Rally, and the Aprilia 660 Tuareg Rally
I am buying two of these and very excited
I have done multi-week tours with my wife riding shotgun in Europe and the USA on Harley touring bikes and you just can’t beat them for that type of riding. I also putter around England’s A and B roads in Yorkshire and the Peak District on my RE Classic 350 and love it. This just goes to show that the type of bike you use massively affects how you will enjoy the journey 😀
I admire your courage mr. Bond. Well done.
Yet another great video Freddie. Now Sunday may begin 👍🏻
Morning Freddy, the moment you stepped off the bike it moved slightly forward. I seriously got anxious this would drop.... Enjoy your rides, great video as always.
I saw that there at the start! That kickstand defied the laws of physics, holy crap! I was like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck FREDDIE WATCH OUT!
I only realised this while watching the video back😳 I’m certain I triple checked it to make sure it was as far forward as possible… but I am doubting myself a bit now
Good on you mate for taking on the weather
Must admit my Hideout 2 piece kit whilst expensive has been the best investment in keeping warm and dry. I also swear by bar end mitts, whilst I look like a 80s bike courier they keep your hands dry and that’s half the battle.
I second those mitts, Stuart. Used them for years on a tatty old winter hack, in the days before I could afford a bike with heated grips. Look awful, but great as a cheap reliable way of keeping your hands warm. Maybe they’ll make a comeback!
Plus keep the wind chill off, too
Freddie I have one tip , suggestion ….to enlighten you about ….my winter riding was transformed last year with a rechargeable heated gilet ….they are awesome and keep you toasty for 8 hours ….honest poss the best pressie I ever got and that coupled with heated grips make winter riding so delightful
I want to share a tip I got and have tried with good result. If you don’t have pinlock then use car hardwax both on the inside and outside of the visor. No fog. And just look left and right while riding in rain to get the waterdrops of. It works great. I had Sonax liquid hardwax standing around and used that. Cheers!😊
Freddie, you are insane but I take my hat off to you riding a bike at that time of year in those conditions! Well done that man! 👍😎 William.
Freddie.. Oxford Rain seal waterproofs. £50 for the set.. never had a leak. Can’t recommend them enough
The only issue I have with the Oxford rail seal oversuit is it doesn't cover the boots or have a strap to go under the boot. It therefore can tend to ride up the leg.
Thank you🙌🏻🙌🏻
You are tougher than me.
Hi Freddie, your videos are amazing, for a moment I felt like I was there in the cold! 😍✌🏻
Braver than me dobbsey. 🥶 great video as usual. 🫡
You should TELL people to like and subscribe throughout the video, given the quality of your cinematography and storytelling I feel you should have more views/subs
That’s very kind of you to say so, I’ll do this
I have to hit the like button right when I start because I get taken away by the adventure and forget about everything else.
@@T4ToWeRz People don’t need to be TOLD, if they like the vid they will ‘like’…..if they don’t they won’t.
@@neilurquhart8622 they do need to be told/reminded or they wont do it! and ofcoarse only if they like the video, should I edit my comment for you? Would that make you feel safe?
@@T4ToWeRz I don’t feel ‘unsafe’ at all!!🥸. I watch a variety of different channels that don’t TELL me to ‘like’……as I said if I’ve enjoyed the content I ‘like’, only very rarely do I ‘not like’ (if I find something very offensive or clearly biased in some way).
Too much like ‘nanny state’ to me. Enjoy your evening🤪
Morning Freddie, have a great Sunday!
Good morning Nick! Have a great day
Great video Freddie, glad you like the Harley.
I definitely got sidestand anxiety for you at the start freddie 😀
I can't understand why decades of motorcycle technology hasn't yet produced an automatic retractable centre stand, controlled by button, for these monster bikes.
@@radicalcartoons2766 Harley make them also if you can believe it a pair of extra wheels that fold down to hold the bike up saw a small girl with those at a Dealer once .
That side stand
Lovely bike you have there. xx
Wasn’t expecting to still see her sitting in the M1 services car park probably to heavy to lift. Enjoy your weekend Freddie.
Great stuff
Morning !
Looks like you’ll need to get a nice set of Scott waterproofs. They are stretchy which makes them comfortable. The best on the market.
Seconded on the Scott Ergo Pro. Expensive but no more so than a visit to Motorcycle Live taking into account entry fee, car parking, fuel and food!
Thanks Stuart, checking them out now
@@Howard1776thirded.
@@nockianlifter661I guessed from those recommendations that you were a Motolegends shopper 😅
hi freddie had a harley myself the side stand always had me on edge haha.
The Vietnam tour sounds like a great prospect for next year!
Looking forward to what you find interesting at the show
I love the green color and I must say I think chrome is coming back in vogue after years of blacked out look.
OMG!....you was sooooooo lucky brah! especially when you was on the right side of the bike, you wouldn't of stood a chance rescuing that fall.
I knew you’d like this one, Adam! I was thinking of you while riding along😀🎶🎶🤘🏼
get yourself some heated winter gloves, it will be a game changer 👍
Heated grips and heated clothing are brilliant, youd be toasty in a Keis jacket. Alpinestars goretex tour boots are a revelation too, warm dry feet no matter the weather.
Heated grips keep your hands & core warm. 1st accessory on the list. Won't ride a bike without them 👍.
Opposite problem here in Sydney Freddie , 35 degrees Celsius and too hot to wear protective gear or don't wear it and risk sunburn damage.
Yes ! I recommend Vietnam on a motorcycle. Truly delicious …
My favorite vlogger freddie dobbs ❤
Freddie, you have to ride the hà Giang loop in nothern vietnam. I did it on a little honda a few years ago. It was so special, outstanding landscape and nice food everywhere. Greetings from Berlin
Freddie you need a helmet with a Pinlock anti-fog shield in the visor, they work!
Beautiful bike
It looked like the bike was going to roll off the stand at the start in the garage. Glad it didn’t
Agreed. Pin lock visors are a must.
Hi Freddie, great video again. What's the green light weight jacket your wearing looks mint. 👌
Saw you in the shopping centre in Canary Wharf yesterday morning :).
hi freddie
it is probably not as raw and authentic as you would like, but i would love you to try a trip like this on a modern goldwing.
Try re-waterproofing the waterproofs before chucking them. Nikwax waterproofer is quite good
I did 3 winters.
No visor, goggles or fairing.
I don't bother getting my Harley wet, muddy or salty.
It's 26 and not rusty,I have every intention of getting another 20 years out of it.
Might pick up a vfr750 to stretch out the seasons.
New bike dav on a regular basis, half yourluck Fredsie, Thanks for sharing
Nikwax do a large range of waterproofing compounds you either spray on or add to the washing machine. I've kept my waterproofs alive for years using their stuff. (No connection to me by the way)
Also you should look at Zerofit baselayer tops (amongst other gear they do). Never known anything like them. SO warm. (again, no affiliation to me).
Keep up the good work.
Chris from Hastings.
p.s Do pop to Hastings if you're down this way again, you'd love the old town.
Great video as always Freddie, any plans to test the b65 or bear 650?
So am not the only madman still riding in this weather😃
Just get yourself some good heated gear and you can throw all those layers away! My preference is Gerbing, but as they say, other makes are available.
Are they really that good that you can just wear one heated jacket and do away with the rest??😳
I have just bought a heated waist coat to wear under jacket & some heated gloves as I commute 90 mile round trip most days, and yes keeps me warm, was riding in 3 degrees Celsius with only a thin merino t shirt underneath & pretty toasty, brand I have is tucano urbano but plenty of options out there
Magnificent music with that sax, please tell us what and who that is!!
What happened to the John Lewis thermals that you said were so good. ?
Heated jackets are a game changer..must be 12 volts.
nice one freddie
Freddie i just rode my 2024 roadglide today at 40 degree weather farenhieght with gerbing heated gear it plugs right up to the bike and was confortable the who ride get heated gear my friend
