In 2019 I rode a Harley Ultra Limited from Orlando, Florida to LA, California. Cca 7000km in 14 days. Best time of my life. Me and my friend were super comfortable and super happy with it. Perfect bike for a trip like this.
I bought a 2007 one of these last year and I love it. I took the tour pack off it and it looks way better as well as being slightly easier to manoeuvre.
It's not necessarily a flat battery. Chances are, he rode it for about 10 metres and then switched it off. There's a bit of a glitch with the electronics on the M8s that causes the OEM battery to deplete itself if this happens. Pretty sure if the battery gets switched out for a Yuasa, or similar, it would be fine.
Had a couple of Road King Classics, an 88” and later 103”, such a lovely ride and the 103” actually handled and braked. I was so not an HD person having had myriad sports bikes and BMW GSAs, there’s just something about the HD tourers, relaxed mileage monsters. Nice squat form btw Freddie 👍
Think that was meant to be. Ultra Limited is a big comfy bike and does look nice but far too heavy and impractical. The road glide is absolutely gorgeous! Chrome and the green looks stunning. Fixed fairing is a lot nice as well rather than having the batwing pulling your bars about. Pillion will be more than good enough on the road glide . Enjoy Freddie.
I rented one of those in the States! It was nice to ride and reliable! It did put me in hospital with a kidney stone though! hahha! Great content Freddie!!
Easily done Freddie.. I had a bike delivered once that had the ignition left on in the van.. 3 hour drive down and the battery was too flat to start. The company were mortified but I just got the delivery driver to give me a push and bumped it. Half hour ride and it was back like new!
Reminds me of my 89 1200 Sportster, that bike was a nightmare for not being reliable, best thing i ever did was get rid of it and replace with a reliable Yamaha 650 which never let me down.

Hi Freddie, I moved to the US from the UK just under 2 years ago and being a biker for the last 25 years and selling my MT10SP and Honda Africa 😭before moving over here, I couldn't decide what bike to get. To experience the full US biking experience I bought a HD Electra Glide Ultra Classic in a beautiful metallic red colour scheme with fine piping detail and chrome accents. With the 1600 engine and updated twin pipe exhausts it sounds every bit the deep, vibrating monster you think it would be. It has a real presence! I live in a beautiful area of North New Jersey so taking the HD on Sunday morning rides to various Diners was a real please. So, I decided to plan an 11 day long trip riding down to North Carolina to visit The Wheels Through Time American Motorcycle Museum (which is well worth a trip) and over to Tennessee to the ride the infamous "Tail of the Dragon" road which snakes through the Smokey Mountains and has 318 curves in 11 miles! I was really looking forward to the trip and couldn't wait for the leaving day to come, so I said to my wife why don't we have a shake down run and have a weekend away on the HD so we can ensure everything is good and we're ready for the big trip. So we rode down to Cape May, which is the southern most tip of the Jersey Shore, which is also beautiful and well worth a trip, and found after just 4 hours of riding, I couldn't wait to get off the thing! Every aspect that created the "theatre" of riding this monster became a source of irritation, the noise, the vibration, the weight, the lack of power! I hated it! Needless to say, we did the trip, but went in the car, and the HD is for sale. They look good and sound great for a Sunday morning blast, but anything more than that and they're totally impractical. Also FYI - Those Electra Glides are renowned for killing batteries. Mine was perfectly OK one week, it's kept on a trickle charger in a garage, but the following week didn't have enough power to crank it over. And do you know how much the batteries cost? $200!!!!!!! And that's not a HD battery. Add another $100 for that!
@ It seems to me that HD assume value is directly related to the weight of the product-the heavier the better. Has they bunged a couple of marine lead acid batteries in those capacious panniers they could have charged £60K.
To supply a premium end motorcycle for review without a proper handover to ensure that the reviewer is aware of how everything works is a recipe for disaster. Then when the bike won't start they send out one old man in a van to collect a bike that weighs well over a third of Ton which nearly ended in a disaster is crazy. Best of all for the whole event to be recorded and put on the internet. I have to admit it did make for entertaining viewing. I hope you've got a tin hat because your gonna need it.
Oh man Freddie, I’m just laughing watching this. Don’t they have trailers in England. That poor delivery guy. They should have just brought you a new battery. It’s a shame you didn’t get to ride that tourer. Monica would absolutely fall in love with it. I have seen women on the backs of those bike totally asleep. Rolling down the highway at 85 mph. Watching you try to get that bike in that little room brought me back to the days when I rented a duplex with no garage, and I had to put my panhead in the kitchen. When the landlord would come for the rent, me and my wife would push it out the kitchen door 😂. I hope the bike they gave you is ok. You know green is bad luck on a Harley
Haha Steve- I love this! Squeezing a Harley into a small space is a very unpleasant experience😆 This was THE bike Monika was most excited about. Hmmm, I didn’t know this about Harleys and green. I’ll try and put this to the back of my mind (I’ve been lucky enough so far… apart from the ice cold weather🥶)
While I wouldn't recommend it for the Hardknott Pass, it's perfect here in the states when you have a thousand miles of motorway to cover in a day or so.
Damn it! This is the problem with too much tech on any vehicle- they chronically drain batteries. My Bonneville lasts five weeks without being started!
Holy carp. I was waiting for it to fall over at the start there. When you got off it at 2:27 it didn't settle back on the side stand, it jiggled forward slightly. It was square-on and then kept looking precariously on the point of rolling forward past the pivot point. Unless it has a detente lock as the weight (WEIGHT!!) settles on it. What a mess if it fell over. You could always use the Wrangler to pull it upright.
So ugly and heavy looking front on the green one. Soo.. it's easier to replace a motorcycle than battery. Just a sign of modern times: replace not repair.
Shame the H-D Ultra Classic had a flat battery, I'm sure you would have enjoyed the ride to the NEC on it , I would have been interested to see how you got on with it, don't worry about the weight , once you are on the move you won't notice it and it will be a "doddle" to ride. Found it odd the chap from H-D didn't arrive with a set of tools and a replacement battery for you , changing the battery is a 15 minute job and would have saved you both time and effort. Look forward to seeing how your trip to the NEC went on the 2024 Road Glide.
OMG I bought a roadglide ultra in the summer (with tourpack and big pillion seat) It scares the crap out of me when moving it around the slippery garage floor etc. Mine is 2018 and doesnt have the vehicle hold which can be a pain with a pillion stopped on a hill. So easy to ride once its moving. Those lithium batteries arent the done deal yet. The ignition switch needs to move one more step to accessories position then it wont drain the battery so quickly, not sure how long you had it switched on when you were filming etc but 11v too low to start. These take time to fire up as they push the oil round the engine before firing so i think the battery takes some hammer each start up. I dont know how you managed to move it to the lock up. youd think they would equip the HD guy with a charger
Great to hear from an owner! This is a really interesting insight- thank you for sharing🙌🏻 I was also surprised the delivery company don’t carry battery chargers as standard
I admire your courage! Please pay attention to the kick stand. If you pay no attention to anything else, watch out for the kick stand. It needs to be kicked out all the way forward, all the way!
Oh dear, typical Harley's, so delicate. But you must try the Honda Goldwing, another heavy bike but because of the boxer 6 cylinder and fuel tank under the seat, it feels light weight. But a much better ride and reliability that Harley. Don't get me wrong, I do like Harley's, but preference is the Goldwing.
That’s a huge bike, shame it didn’t start. I look forward to the next video. Can I ask, how do you find your Bonneville with being tall? I’ve been looking at a few different Bonneville and the 865 keeps popping up, I’m 6’ with a 34” inseam.

@ It seems to me that HD assume value is directly related to the weight of the product-the heavier the better. Has they bunged a couple of marine lead acid batteries in those capacious panniers they could have charged £60K.
Monika really sees the humor in these incidents
Now that’s what I call suffering for your art…. Priceless!
Its a beautiful whale. Good video, it was a mixture of dramatic and funy 😅😅😅😅
Real shame the Ultra Glide didn't start, but I reckon you owe those cleaners a beer.
Squeezing a Harley into a small space is a very unpleasant experience😆
This was THE bike Monika was most excited about.
Hmmm, I didn’t know this about Harleys and green. I’ll try and put this to the back of my mind (I’ve been lucky enough so far… apart from the ice cold weather🥶)
We used to load Honda 1500 Goldwings up a builders plank into the back of a 71/5 tonne truck!
416 kgs? Its a freaking car Freddi! Sorry I have not been around, I am not getting notified about your videos any more.
While I wouldn't recommend it for the Hardknott Pass, it's perfect here in the states when you have a thousand miles of motorway to cover in a day or so.
How in the world can people find this bikes good looking is beyond me but hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
Battery requires tons of cold cranking amps to turn over if it hasn't been run in ages. It's a big motor and the battery needs to keep topped up.
🏍️ Your face... Need that on a t-shirt! Great vid!
😆
Reminds me when I booked a test ride of a Harley in mottingham turned up they wheeled it out and it didn't start.. Lol great advert
Damn it! This is the problem with too much tech on any vehicle- they chronically drain batteries. My Bonneville lasts five weeks without being started!
Beautiful bikes. For me a just a speedo , open faced helmet No detractions for your ride. Most roads here in the uk are signposted.
Sheesh! At least wear a jacket, too!
@@ashermil Ha!
That's bad luck Freddie, Glad Harley sorted it for you it's a weight..... 2 bikes in 1
Lovely bikes Freddie! Question: The green jacket, make and model Please? 🙂
Hi Jed, it’s the Barbour Wax Mac. If in doubt, size up very slightly (I’m wearing an L, and I’m 6’1 and 80kg)
*Jes (apologies)
8:36 Greatest cut to commercial gag yet
😆
11Volts is a flat battery. It should be 12.6V and about 14v when running.
A Harley arrived with a problem? Ya don't say! LOLOL
Oxford Oximiser 3x charges lithium battery as well. I've been using one for years and it's a good deal for 60 quid.
Monika's naughty laugh at the end 😂
11:20 why don't you try to push it?
Take one bike that's been sitting too long + cold temps =🤯 well, I think Freddie knows what it equals!
Evo engines are the best ❤
I admire your courage! Please pay attention to the kick stand. If you pay no attention to anything else, watch out for the kick stand. It needs to be kicked out all the way forward, all the way!
Harley quality
