Pardon me for staring ❤😂
16:35 should be ten to four 😊
Super useful. One of the best but foundational one I’ve ever watched.
These phrases in time and date are essential in life, I applied them in daily life too.
@16:33 it's ten to four but thanks for the video!
In some fields, regardless of whether you are in the US or the UK, they might use the 24-hour time format to avoid confusion. (e.g. computers/system administration and/or medical services (e.g. emergency room or in the UK, Accidents and Emergencies (A&E), as well as the military.)
We learnt this clock system in primary school in Hong Kong. Yes it is very confused and difficult. We almost do not use this system , instead US system is more convenience. Later I listen this system in BBC radio everyday. Thankfully I've learnt this when I was young.
but for the date system, UK style is common in hk
That’s useful, I think you should create a podcast channel to play the episodes like this teaching lesson
Susie, Thank your great course. 😊
Thank you so much. Very comprehensive coverage. I wish you also cover what "A.M" or "P.M" mean, at first I thought it is "at morning" and "past morning" (now I know it isn't correct)
Thank you very much for your videos, that is very useful 👍 😀 😊 🙂 👌 ☺️ 👍
Hi Susie, I really appreciate your videos, I learnt a lot from them.
I have a question about how to tell the years, after a few years, assuming we were in 2043, I mean our cunrrent year was 2043, when we say the years that are closer to the current day, like between 2030 and 2040, it would work either way? for example, we could say two thousand and thirty two (2032), could also say twenty thirty two, whereas for those years between 2020 and 2030, we should use the 'thousands' way, two thousand and twenty one (2021), is it correct?
Looking forward to your kind reply!
I use to like listening to how the BBC broadcast "half-past", "quarter-past", "quarter-to", "ten-past", or "ten-to". It did take me a long time to get use to😁. Similar way of telling time in Denmark.
好實用
I found it’s cool when some people skip “past” for “half past”. They say half 6 instead of half past 6
Great Lesson! I heard some Brits said ‘past six‘’’ instead of ‘half past six‘’’ to express the meaning of ‘18:30‘’’. Is it a common and informal to say this in UK? Please advise. Thanks. 😀
Thank you very much❤❤❤
it's helpful,thank you for ur lesson,my pretty susie.😂😂😂
very useful. thanks❤
It's always my headache about the time in British way😮 because I'm always confused about it.Thanks for it and please keep making it.😕🤔
Yes! Winter or Daylight Saving Time are so annoying!and the English grammar of time is very similar to that of our Scandinavian languages?
😂It dawned on me. Really helpful thank you 😊
Thank you so much
The only 'lecture' i ever had about telling time was in kindergarten, decades ago :)
Ten to four~
yes thank you, the clock on the screen is wrong
Maybe this is explained why most GP receptionists are described the appointment time would be twenty past ten or maybe twenty to eleven.
So I got a key word pair "past/to", thank you so much Soosie! ^_^
Susie, sorry for my mistaken spelling! Sadly.
You make me remember my English teacher at primary school.
Being a person who grew up in both British and American influences, though I lived in the UK for long, just find it confused every time when reporting time. I would say it more on an American way, especially now I’m in the US.
Or if sometimes if I’m lazy, I’ll simply say the four numbers on my phone and gladly everyone understands.
i have trouble disguising - teen and -ty especially when people speak fast, can u teach us how to identify them? I usually repeat as one five or five zero
Easy learning especially English tone ❤ Quite hard to understand
Scottish 😂
Susie, for your reference, we learned to write 25th Dec. 2013 instead of 25.12.2013 in school 30 years ago, in Hong Kong. Teacher did not teach us the later and I suppose the former is the formal way to be used in business writing. Correct me if I am wrong. 😃
OMG! And some teachers insist on writing the full spelling instead of the first three letters lol
Ten to four? Thx~
yes sorry the clock is wrong
Susie
Time is money
very useful❤
Hi Susie, what about "half six" for 6:30? (Yea, the word "past" is missing)
How often do people in the UK say it like this? Is it more like a regional thing or do many people actually say it on the daily basis?
Does it make you raise your eyebrows a bit when you hear people saying it like that, since it sounds like it could also mean 5:30 as well (or 3:00 even)? 😧
"Half six" is very common as well!
Good video
hi susie, May I confirm if your saying would be wrong by 16:37?😝 it’s almost 4 but you said almost 3…btw, this video is really helpful❤
Most of the situation we learn English in a regular way, how do we talk about the common sense of dinosaurus ? ( Was a dinosaur nude or with feathers ? How many birds are the modern generation of ancient dinosaurus ? )
Ive also watched some movie, and when they say time, it'll be bit diifferent, like 08:00 b "Oh-eiht-hundred".
16:40 Is it should be ten to four?
Susie!!!
I would like to know how to say the money 🙏🏻
1610, "traced" (implied in graphical), from L. graphicus "picturesque," from Gk. graphikos "of or for writing, belonging to drawing, picturesque," from graphe "writing, drawing," from graphein "write," originally "to scratch" on clay tablets with a stylus. Meaning "of or pertaining to drawing" is from 1756; that of "vivid" is from 1669, on the notion of words that produce the effect of a picture.
thanks
You're welcome!
I quite often confuse with 0.5 hour and 1.5 hour, half hour, hour half, half an hour, an hour half 😅
Most of them are similar to australia!
Your explanation somehow differs from my recognition. For 02:10 I would say two ten at night or ten past two at night.
TEN TO FOUR 16:37
❤❤❤❤
0:00 am I would say zero hundred
I think you meant to say ten to four @16:34
16.33
Is 10 to 4 teacher
It doesn't make sense that it's not 12:00am one hour after 11:00am (Since 12:00am actuaclly means midnight!!).
How about we speak "two O O five" for 2005? Is is proper?
No, should be "two thousand and five" 😊
it more like ten to four?
Should be ......Ten to Four
Video @16:36
I am a Hongkonger living in UK.
Thank you, Sussie!
can we say "two-oh-two-three" for years?
No I'm afraid not!
Sorry to remind you. It’s ten to four 😊
oh really! maybe they weren't British 😋
Why "Woo” would translate to “戴“ and not “胡”?
There is a trivious mistake of this clock lecture if you would forgive my sickness of perfrectionism😂. Its 10 to 4 instead of ten to 3.
English is an insane language😅
EYES MRE BRIGHTLY.....WHICH BRAND....OP? NOT BAD, LOVELY FOR SURE.
At 16.38 it should be 'ten to four' 😅
🤯🤯🤯
16:30 It should be ten to four. 😅
When the Elizabeth second's husband killed Princess Diana with a fake car accident , what's the British Royal Family Scandal Diana tried to tell the world before she was dead ?
instead of "ten to three" , it's should be "ten to four" right ? , it's a graphical mis-match i guess, anyway, thx for the video though , good for my kids
Those are all exactly the standard education in the crown British Hong Kong. I guess there only can teach British ways under the governor rather than US way. But I'm a US rebel after grown up particularly the church I went in my teenage is a native American church which very rare on the European continent, let alone the GB isle. Hence some of them in me had already been returned to my British HK school, while everyday talking to my US friends and they just said "Stop that, we ain't got that much time for those redundant long regular grammar BS. Just STFU and say what you wanna say simply straight!".
So cute, but Leeds people say half 4😭
oh You are so pretty, I just can't move my eyes from your face, hhhhh😃
Hahaha you forgot to mention: half ten. 😂
Honey,can I have a dating with you ❤🎉…..
…🎉
❤❤❤❤
