I’m 71 and started with the guitar 3 years ago ,and like you said ,it’s hard going from utube video to utube video ,but I think I struck gold when I stumbled on yours ,a couple of days ago ,It’s like a lightbulb moment when it all makes sense , cheers mate Eric from Oz
I’m 75, a boomer that also strummed in a band while I sang many years ago and after 10 years I’ve picked up my guitar again and am determined to progress. This open a big door for me , thanks! Never too old!
Hi Tony. I'm 71 and have been strumming open cords for 60 years. I was lead singer in a band 35 years ago. I just strummed along with the band while I sang. Recently I've decided I want to go further in my guitar journey. Don't know how far I will get but this video has helped me reach my first goal. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Subscribed!
I can’t play guitar yet, and may have just jumped into an advanced lesson 🤯 but that made sense and was great. I think I will be watching this video a lot when I get my guitar. I have def subscribed. Thank you 🇦🇺💕⭐️
Thanks Tony, I'm getting there now I guess, still need to practice a lot, but you gave me a small lightbulb which is clearing up some dark places in my guitarbrain...
Thanks Tony, I now know what my guitar insturctor was trying to teach me when I first started playing. He was showing me the same boxes but your explanation has turned on the lightbulb in my head. Go have a wee dram for the cold..
Brilliant lesson.yes, this is new to me. I've watched hundreds of TH-cam videos about learning guitar and never came across this. Maybe I did. It was just never explained like this. So much learned from this one video. Thank you sir fine work 🙏
Very useful information. I remember almost understanding this back in the mid seventies when jamming with mates. Then work, family and lots of other stuff took over. Now retired and hoping to get into guitar again (got head memory and no muscle memory at the moment!), this should get my fingers moving again. Thanks 👍
Excellent lesson! Your demonstrations made it all click, unlike other videos I have seen on TH-cam. I appreciate you taking the time to pass your knowledge on. Thank you again.
Just starting to look at this kind of thing after years of just strumming chords. This is just what I needed to get me started and you’ve explained it really well. Thanks and I’ll definitely be subbing for more! 👍
It took me quite a while to figure this stuff out on my own. I wish I had seen this method years ago. It makes Guitar so enjoyable when you’re able to express yourself on your instrument. Thanks Brother 😎
Thanks so much for this Tony! Your "I won the lottery!" technique is genius! Now I can tell difference between Major and minor in a flash, after having flitted around the pentatonic scale a couple of years. This video helped so much with focus for solos. Get Well Soon wishes to you.
Thank you so much for this lesson. There is a lot in there to learn. Your lessons are always great. They’re just what I’m needing right now and you make it easy to understand
Yes it did make sense. Will need to try this out and keep trying until I get it. It feels like a ureeka moment. I’m excited about this. Only recently found you on You Tube but I really like your lessons. See you again soon. Thanks a million. 👍🤘🕺🏻
I just found your channel & have learned more from you in the last couple of weeks, than in last couple of years on my own or even in lessons! Even with your Scottish brogue & my Southern American ears‼️🏴🇺🇸🤔🎸😆
I subscribed to the channel only because of this remarkable video! I've watched nearly every guitar tutorial on TH-cam, but this one stands apart. It's a revolution! Tony, you've breathed new life into my guitar learning journey, and I can't thank you enough for getting out of bed to show me this simple yet profound lesson! God Bless you, Brother!
I've watched several of your videos and have learned something new from every one, but after watching this one knowing you feel like 💩, you've earned a subscription from me. From one Tony to another. Thank you for your helpful content!
Thanks Tony. You make it look easy. I definitely can use alot of practice. Atleast now I have something to work with. Thanks again and keep them coming. Happy New Year to you and yours from Tennessee!!!
Wow..... huge breakthrough moment. Been playing guitar only a couple years but this video connected the dots on a lot of the stuff I've been learning. Thank you so much, please keep the great content coming. I appreciate your very relaxed approach as well.
I've seen this info on youtube several times but this time it has just "clicked" with me so thank you! So much so, I've sent you a Super Thanks to cover the cost of the cough medicine 👍
Amazing and thank you ! This is explained so well. I’m going to share with my nephew just learning as it’s a great beginners video to see how lead noodling can happen. I hope you feel better now 🎉
Thank you, Tony, you have brought joy to his old grandpa's days, lol! Messed around for years but never learned nothing, but I feel like my fellow commenter, ericpicton7018, I feel like I struck gold! Just found a cheap Fender today, looks and sounds good, and have been watching your videos, knowing I can now show up my nine grandsons, lol! God Bless you and yours, Tony! Big fan now!
Your message warms my heart! I'm so glad to have brought some joy and inspiration to your days. It's never too late to start learning and exploring new things, especially when it comes to music. Congratulations on finding that Fender, it sounds like you're in for some fun times ahead! Keep strumming and making those grandsons proud! Blessings to you and your family as well. :)
Thank you. Great for me. I usually play in open G and a lot with a slide. But, sometimes I play someone else's guitar and don't want to re-tune it. I can really use this.
Thanks you. I learned the pentatonic scale and started moving it around on my own, didn't realize the root note connection so much so thank you. Showing the major pentatonic gave me an ah-ha moment just now.
Thanks for this. You make it look easy. Definitely not easy, but I’ll work on it. I’m a definite newbie. I bought my first guitar at age 67 and have just turned 71. I’m one of those who practice like crazy, give up for a time, then come back. My guitar sits beside my couch, so is at hands reach. I’m at the point now, that I’m content with where I’m at. I admire those, like yourself who can play, but I have resigned to the sense that I will never get where I would like to be. I pick my guitar up when the feeling hits me and plunk away, making sounds that kinda, sorta sound like music. This pentatonic scale is quite musical and I can see where it will come in handy. I DO know how to find the key using the same method that you’ve shown, so now I just need to practice the scale as you played it. Thanks again.
You can do it . . . I am the same age . . . messed with guitar and mandolin all my life . . . at 60 I said I am going to become competent on the mandolin. I took some lessons, but they weren't as helpful as I figured, I knew the theory . . . so I just started practicing and practicing and if you will stick with it, you'll be amazed at how good you can become. It just comes to you as osmosis. You start playing riffs, and you don't know where they come from. It's not an accident that famous guitarists, carried around their instrument when they were at school and practice at breaks and lunch. Practice, practice . . . it works. Cheers.
Thanks Rod. I appreciate the support. I’m following several guitarists on TH-cam. I often find tidbits that encourage me to pick up my guitar. I’m often excited, play until my fingers hurt and then hang it up. I’m content with that. It’s all good. It makes me happy for the moment and every win is encouraging.
Hi Tony a man with his ego under control , fantastic. Gotta say of all the videos I have seen about playing the guitar, I like your videos the best (even if you`re a Scot) haha from an English fan. Keep up the videos they are great for plebs like me trying to learn!
I thought I had subscribed long ago! Silly me!! Well, that's corrected now cos I've always loved your lessons. Thank you and I hope to take it further from just here.
I've been a guitar dabbler on and off for 40 years. I can play open and barre chords just fine. Since I retired, I bought a new Ibenez Ax-120 and play every day but I just struggle playing riffs, runs anything on a single string. What can I do to get the proper mechanics???
Scales are the key. Just start making up riffs with the notes in a scale. Doesn’t have to be note for note in order as long as every next note is in that scale. Hope this helps! It helped me. It will come with practice/play.

Does it help that you've got fingers like a King Crab's legs?
Sounds like the Eagles, maybe something like Hotel California, in the 9th minute there.
