I’m looking into the upcoming M1V5, and it’s nice to see people do like Monsgeek boards. I’ve never built a keyboard before, so I’m doing my research for this
Hi! I really enjoyed your Leobog HI8 video, but this review is shaking my confidence in my choice. Which one do you think is better for a creamy, deep sound? There's only one comparison, and in that video, the Leobog sounds much more marbly and deeper. I'm wondering if this was just one particular case or not.
Nice review! Had my eyes on this keyboard for a while, so this came in at a good time! Also, any links to where i could buy the deskmat in the vid? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! The deskmat is a pretty generic deskmat I found online You could find it by searching up "Wave Deskmat with a Seigaiha pattern" Hope that helps!
Mine came in ... But with the rosewood (or whatever they're called) switches, I noticed that even my white lights all look pink because of the switches being pink. Does anyone else have this problem?
that's just physics my guy. any colored switch you use can potentially change the hue of the lights, unless you get a good clear or more basic lightly colored switch
That happens with any switches. Either switch to a clear or white switch, or play with the colors. Green light may come through as white because green and pink are complementary.
If you want the most thock, going for Akko Rosewoods and thick PBT Keycaps should work really well Could be worth picking up the pre-build board and swapping the keycaps for some thick PBT ones :)
@@Merkeebs Thanks for the reply. But i meant which foam configuration in this keyboard would give the best thock. I have Leobog Hi8 and can't make it thock like others. I want to understand which foam contributes to thock, which foam to poppyness. PET film vs IXPE sheet etc.
It does sound a bit thin especially with the foam removed but I guess that's due to the 1.2mm PCB Foaming it up and maybe trying the tape mod on it could yield some poppier and louder results
I bought the M1 v3 when it first came out with my own money, and my review is very different from yours. Even Monsgeek admits the gold side accents were removed as a cost saving measure. The case is now not anodized but rather electroplated. Like my mailbox. And the aluminum is thinner in the new version, reducing the weight of the board and making it feel less premium. And, for what it is worth, I miss the large piece of tape that used to be included for tape modding. The new board costs less than the old one used to, and that is a good thing. But it costs less because Monsgeek cut some corners. Whether that trade off is a good one can be debated, but calling the new model the "best ever" simply cannot be defended. I usually enjoy your reviews, but now I worry that my trust has been misplaced.
Heyooo! That's totally valid and I respect your opinion I personally really enjoyed the original Monsgeek M1 when it first released since it was really one of the first aluminum keyboards that really started shaking up the budget keyboard market Whether or not this new M1W V3 VIA variant is an "upgrade" is definitely debatable depending on your personal experience with the board and I don't disagree with you 😅 I genuinely appreciate the comment and your take on the board This is mainly speaking for myself here but, I mainly titled the video "The best variation of the M1 so far" because I personally found the changes to the casing, and its in-box inclusions to not really be deal breakers (I explain a bit more why below) - purely an objective take since it is a review after all The board being less heavy making it feel "less premium", the finish of the case being powder coated, and the gold side accents being removed, and the in-box tape mod removal are all things that I found not really huge problems since at the end of the day the board still keeps most of what makes the M1 the M1 Its case design is still pretty distinct even with the loss of the gold side accent pieces because of its bezel sizes and flat/boxy overall shape the internals (foams and PCB) are pretty much the exact same as the original M1 allowing you to mod, take out or replace foams as you please (even being totally viable foamless due to the non-flex cut PCB), and the wireless functionality without needing to download a thirdparty software, instead opting for VIA, is a very welcome inclusion since I found that was a complaint with the initial M1W release These are all just reasons why I titled the video this way But feel free to reply if you want to discuss this further, I'm always open to hearing more opinions from the community
Yeah, the First M1 wasn't perfect but it has some characteristics. The side accents though serve no function, are its iconic detail and they even had planned to sell models with side LED and different colors. They didn't solve any problem with the v3, they just straight up cutting more corners. The M1 was having issues with stability on the sides and the knob scratching with the case, all because they coppied the mounting from the Mod007 v2 but removed 4 mounting points from the side of it. So instead of adding them back, they remake the knob into this cheap-ly looking ass knob that you find on a 30$ plastic board. Moreover, the v3's case is rumoured to be diecast, not cnc-ed, so they can't anodize it And what comes with diecast case? Much less denser amount of aluminium in there, which equals hollowness.
@@minhquanvu2944Personally I have no problem with powder coating but diecast is a big no for me since the metal is brittle in nature and any bad mix of metals will result in more brittleness.
I'd been on the fence about this board for quite a while because QMK compatibility was previously only available on the non-wireless version of the V3. They basically released this wireless VIA version, just as I was about to order a different board. Good timing for me 😅 On top of that, it now comes pre-built with Creamy Purple switches, which would have been my switch of choice anyways. So this one finally checks all my boxes. Now I just have to endure the 3-5 week delivery time to EU 🫠
Yep! It's a pretty sweet variant of the M1 V3 since it keeps QMK/VIA support and also keeps the the wireless compatibility Pretty good timing for sure 😀 Hope you get your hands on the board soon!

great review! really appreciate the thought you put into this
You do such good work. Really informative and complete.

@Merkeebs thanks!
Man I bought this keyboard a few months ago and it did not came with all the layers showed in the video...
Would you pick this or the al68?
Hey there, any chance you could share some info on your desk mat/pad? :3 It's really nice and I'd love to get 1 too :)

In all those foam confgurations, which combination would make the thockiest setup??

your board will never sound like a soundtest
Where can i find that cable friend?
Hello!
The cable is available from Ordinary Labs :)
It's also available in a variety of colors
mine sounds a bit muted irl, does it sound the same for you?

What switches you using?
me? HMX xinhais.

Powder coated rather than electroplated. Sorry for the initial misdescription.

@@minhquanvu2944And the version of the original M1 sold in the US supports QMK and VIA.
