Today, my friends and I played prawn at Lazarus Island! I kicked a fish into the sea, and I got badly injured afterwards. Always humbling to be reminded that the forces of nature is unforgiving.
Singapore's Lazarus Island, along with St. John's Island and Sisters' Islands, is part of the Sisters' Islands Marine Park, which was established to conserve and protect Singapore's marine biodiversity. Lazarus Island is one of the southern islands of Singapore and is known for its rich marine diversity and coral reefs.
Coral Diversity: Lazarus Island is home to various types of coral reefs, including hard corals and soft corals. Coral reefs are marine ecosystems formed by the accumulation of calcium carbonate skeletons of coral polyps over time. These reefs provide essential habitat and shelter for numerous marine species, making them some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth.
Marine Diversity: The marine waters around Lazarus Island support a wide array of marine species. These include fish, invertebrates, and other marine organisms. Some common marine species found in the waters around Lazarus Island include various types of fish (e.g., damselfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish), crustaceans (e.g., crabs, shrimps), mollusks (e.g., snails, clams), and sea stars, among others.
Conservation Efforts: The Sisters' Islands Marine Park, which includes Lazarus Island, has been designated as a protected area to conserve and enhance Singapore's marine biodiversity. Efforts are made to protect the fragile coral reefs and the diverse marine life by implementing various conservation measures. These include managing visitor access, promoting public awareness about marine conservation, conducting research and monitoring, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure sustainable management of the marine park.
It's important to note that marine environments are sensitive and can be impacted by human activities, such as pollution, coastal development, and overfishing. Therefore, ongoing efforts to protect and conserve Lazarus Island's marine diversity are crucial to maintaining its ecological health and sustainability for future generations. For the latest information and updates about Lazarus Island's marine diversity and conservation efforts, I recommend checking with official sources or marine conservation organizations in Singapore.
How to get to the island:
    1) Buy ticket from Marina South Ferries, booking via Klook is cheaper.
    www.klook.com/en-SG/activity/...
    2) Head to Marina South Pier MRT station (Red Line), Show Klook booking & ride the ferry.
    3) Note: Buy lunch before entering the island, as there aren't any eateries there. Bring a lot of water (recommended 2L per person) if you are plan to walk all of southern islands!

Cool catches. The fish at 4:03 is actually a scissortail sergeant though (Abudefduf sexfasciatus).

Hi James, your videos are enjoyable but to kick the fish. That is quite disrespectful. Treat potential food source with respect please.

Thanks for tuning in 👌 absolutely right, time and time again I’m humbled by the ocean. If you read my text narrations, you will realise I actually got CUT by barnacles later on (as a form of punishment by the sea??), and the red tinge you see on the screen was actually my blood.

I liked that you catch and released most fishes you caught so that was a good reflection of how you treat fishes. Sorry to hear about your cuts, safety is a top priority. So take care.
