To answer your question about Revonnah's economy, Rob: it is very dependent on several factors, including some that weren't expanded on in the handful of episodes that feature the planet. My best estimate is that, if it exists at all, it's likely based on trading goods for other goods. The next likely option is that they have an in-between product that functions similarly to how salt briefly acted in the economy when only one party could meet the trade demand and the other couldn't. The in-between product is probably another resource that has little obvious use to the Revonnahgander beyond this. An economy with any form of currency is highly unlikely here, since that would imply that there are services that the farmers themselves don't have the skills or time for and the episodes only show farms, no businesses such as carpenters, metalworkers, etc. Given such an absence and no mention of such businesses by any of the Revonnahganders, this is probably a solid theory. My headcanon is that Miuroids are basically like earth rats and are naturally capable of learning the way they do. It is just the Ravanaganders only ever treat them like pests, so they never had the chance to learn until this episode.
The closest thing to Rooks naturally layered landscape are the stones at Giants cuaseway, they have a hexagonal look to them that look similar to Rooks homeworld. Also strata closely resembles Rook homeworld
I mean, I'm pretty sure Fistrick had proteins or something that jumpstarted Muroid brain activity. Fistrick seems like the sort that would always have those sort of supplies on hand.
This was an interesting episode for sure. Pretty sure I saw something about Derrick saying the Amber Ogia are like papaya with a core of honey in terms of the taste.
Okay, now I want to try one. To bad it's fictional, but since we have an official writer statement describing how it's supposed to taste, we can make an approximation.
About that landscaping question, I'm not an expert but yes, we got TONS of it here on Earth. It happens with many sedimentary rock formations, and forms what's called "beds" or "strata". Iirc, it usually indicates that water used to be there, and that its tides have been flowing and forming/eroding the layers for hundreds of years.
3:13 Generally rock patterns can look like this anywhere that has severe weathering. As rocks tend to stack on top of each other (huge simplification, but let's run with it), erosion can expose these layers long after they have been laid down. I saw cliffs like this in Corinth in Greece, and some in canyons on the Isle of Skye.
One of my favorite episodes. Love how Ben interacts with Rook’s family. Omniverse has great worldbuilding. Glad you enjoyed it, even if not as much as me. It’s good to have these breakdowns back
6:30 Kuro is a Brooken shipper confirmed 10:40 Ben loving the attention from his fame has always been canon. "WHO'S YOUR HERO???" 14:45 Isn't Fistrick, like, a canonical slaver? It would make perfect sense for him to look for a place to exploit. And once he encounters Revonnah while checking up on Rook, he's probably rushed there immediately for the jack of all smuggling op. As for Muroid evolution, I'm headcanonning that Fistrick gave Psychobos a pet project during a creative rut. Also holy shit, Revonnahganders are pretty much space Amish. I guess they started with an Earth-like world to justify how humanoid Rook is - convergent evolution.
I love the World Building that Omniverse does, and how Kuro explains a lot of the cool editing and art design in ways I wouldn’t normally otherwise get.
17:33 I think that after that phrase it would have been cool show the clip from "The Secret of Chromastone" where Humungousaur changes into Jetray without touching the Omnitrix's symbol. Sometimes you do that, after pointing an ability that a character has used in previous episodes then there are short breaks from the breakdowns that shows clips of that character in previous episodes using that ability.
I was really surprised that we didn't get to see Ben turn into one of Rook's species. This would have been the perfect episode to introduce such a transformation.
@@levievil9220 Idk, but it would have make for a cool figurine so the marketing department could probably have figured out a way to make them use it more.
@@Ender_Onryo true however I think they didn’t give Ben a blanko transformation to make sure rook can still be unique kinda like how both gwen and Ben are anodites but only Gwen uses it fully
I’m glad that you decided to give this episode a full breakdown. Yeah it may not be anything exciting but it’s still cool seeing Rook’s family and world. I also completely forgot about the whole sludge puppy pretending to be an extreme 90s superhero version of Ben was a thing. So seeing those Rob Liefeld inspired posters of him was a funny reminder
I never knew there were 5YL videos with the Soundtrack and Audio taken out. That is such a smart business decision I wish more companies would incorporate. Very smart Ink Tank!
Why wasn't Dr. Animo in this episode? Y'think they'd do some kind of bait-and-switch, where the hyper-evolved animals point to Animo, and then Fistrick showing up is a funny twist or something.
Fun fact about the flashframe at 15:55, but I've noticed that it might actually be a mark of Derrick J Wyatt himself. In Transformers Animated (also Art Directed by Derrick), this flashframe is used occasionally. One of the uses happens at 3:44 in the episode below. th-cam.com/video/hfWszDDj1HM/w-d-xo.html Also I will not rest until I find a "potato table" and buy it for my living room
3:00 Well an example of that would be the crop lands of the mountainous areas of Vietnam. You can search up "staircase fields" or the Vietnamese word "ruộng bậc thang". They are truly feats of nature and extremely beautiful.
10:43 On Earth there was terrace farming from the Incan Empire that is located in the modern day Andes. Although, it could also be some sort of plateau.
Rook's homeworld is one of the more well-explained alien planets in the Ben 10 series, from its landscapes and architecture to its culture. It helps that he's settled in as one of the main characters at this point.
3:09 What you're looking for is something called a terrace. It's a man made shape in the land that makes it easier for us to farm on the sides of valleys and hills. The Aztec people are famous for their terrace farms
3:13 Those "layered landscapes" on Revonnah look similar to rice terraces, like the one in the Philippines. While technically not naturally occurring, the farmers carved the mountains so they can hold water on each layer (kinda like a mini pond), which is the ideal environment for the growth of rice.
To answer the "layered landscape " question. Yes, but also not necessarily natural. The incans were prolific terrace farmers, and there's this natural wonder known as the giants causeway as well. You can also geological structures like that all over Arizona though I've never been there.
So glad to have the Breakdowns back and I love this episode Ben and Rook get to bond and we learn more about the universe and Rooks planet a great time overall and Ben’s personality is pretty chill in this episode so that’s great too
3:0710:45 These are probably based on farming terraces, which have been used in lots of areas around Earth for around five thousand years to decrease erosion and soil runoff It’s a good detail given how much of the Revonnahgander society is based around agriculture
Not to throw around accusations of queercoding, but (as Kuro joked) the parallels to “meeting your boyfriend’s parents” and also the “work with my hands line” at the beginning. No wonder Brooken/BenRook is such a big ship.
3 Years of breakdowns already goddamn. What a ride it's been. Still discussing Ben 10 lore in 2024. Still love enjoying them on a Friday evening after work with a good fresh pizza and beer, hell yeah
Love the breakdowns and as a geologist yes we do have landscape that makes those platform shapes seen at 3:10. The main way I can think for those to form is through a series of small faults creating platforms like that. I believe it is called a step fault. Additionally how the rocks are eroded can also naturally form this pattern over time with things like massive changes in water level.
4:50 these fruits always reminded me of peeled mature "japanese persimmons" (or whatever its called outside my country its pretty common here its so jelly and when its peeled its definitely looking like amber ogia
I love seeing fantasy culture especially when it's inspired by real life one's, from what I've seen with how alien lore is handled in and beyond/5yl you guys do a good job with that
Ah yes, I remember this episode. I actually have very little problems with that one; it's one of the few where I do think OV's world-building genuinely works. Rook's planet is fairly unique and interesting and I like Revonnahgander. They feel like an actual culture compared to say the very stereotypical portrayal of Gourmand as a bunch of Homer Simpson wannabe or Anur Transyl being a stereotypical Halloweentown. Uh. I missed the part about Ben saying transforming feels like a good stretch the first time I watched.... I actually kinda like the idea. Funny, I remember getting annoyed by Ben being ridiculed for not knowing customs the first time I watch, but rewatching it now, it doesn't bother me that much. Guess I was biased about it back then. I guess that's also why I missed the part about Ben and Rook Da bounding. That was neat. Only part that still bothers me is Ben throwing the fire stick thingy. I even kinda find it funny that Ben is put in alien drags now^^' I approve your idea for handling rabbits by the way, Kuro^^ Best of luck with that! Aaaaaand yeah Fistrick is my One major issue with this episode: him having access to space travel came out of nowhere when until now he seemed to have been a street-level villain. And so does his ability to inexplicably train the Muroid. Personally I expected Dr Animo; him being in space would also have been a stretch, but at least he had precedents with his time in the Null Void, and controlling and hyper-evolving animals *was* his thing. It doesn't ruin the episode or anything, but it's a bit jarring. Overall I think my opinion of this episode has improved with time. It's good, and my only real issue is a nitpick at worse.
I rewatched the episode in anticipation for this breakdown and they did have a line about setting aside some of the fruit for them. I think Rook's Dad said it
18:45 my theory on the rats; like earth rats they’re actually pretty intelligent already and fisto just trained them to repeat certain actions and complete certain basic tasks. You can train earth rats to do much the same, minus the speaking. Make the alien rats about as intelligent as a chimp and this is very easily possible. Well, possible for Ben ten.
I wish we saw Ben turn into a muroid,I can imagine the muroild wouldn't talk like wildmutt. This is one of the reasons I am sad that omniverse was cancelled and I blame those stupid omniverse haters
ALSO regarding the naming conventions - it's possible "Rook" is more like a family name. I remember in Elder Scrolls Morrowind the elves have a similar situation where the family name comes before the given name.
11:41 okay Kuro but how do we know this isn’t the first time the Celestial Sapiens recreated the universe, huh? For all we know the Ben Tennyson we have right here could be an artificial recreation of another Ben Tennyson. Just saying
I really love it when you note the similarities between Earthern-Culture and Alien Culture. It really feels like that was what the writers of the show were trying to convey when noting the various similarities and differences between Humans and other Alien-Species. We’re different but we’re also a little bit the same. Love you Kuro, keep up the good work 💚👍 You’re keeping my favorite Childhood series alive with these videos, brother. (Is it alright if I call you brother…?)
It still boggles my mind that Fistrick of all villains just casually has a planet destroying super weapon, was able to travel off world to find a planet that grew a fruit that just so happened to be the exact fuel source that weapon needed, and was able to train the common vermin living there to do his bidding.
@InevitableOption-ic2vx This honestly felt like it should have been a Dr. Animo plot in my opinion. Controlling animals is his whole MO and he has far most history with Ben to the point where it'd be more believable that he'd try making his way up to becoming an off world threat. Not the petty thug who we just met dealing alien technology on the streets!
8:55 reminds me of a friend of mine who went to Guatemala with his dad for a missionary (yes, his dad's a pastor), and my friend had girls running to him and had skirts minimal. Thank God i didn't have to see that happen for him.
Personally, I think the Muroids always had the capability of higher thought, it's just that the Ravannaganders only saw them as pests and treat them as such, kinda like rats and mice

Okay, now I want to try one. To bad it's fictional, but since we have an official writer statement describing how it's supposed to taste, we can make an approximation.
Breakdowns, how have I missed you.
Alanna Ubach also voiced Manny/El Tigre.
Rook’s Home planet for the first time.
I still find it funny how muroids are apparently smart enough to have a transformation somewhere in the omnitrix
11:38 I still think it’s easier to believe it’s still the same them. Their souls were just placed in new vessels is all that happened
It’s good to have these breakdowns back
6:30 Kuro is a Brooken shipper confirmed
10:40 Ben loving the attention from his fame has always been canon. "WHO'S YOUR HERO???"
14:45 Isn't Fistrick, like, a canonical slaver?
Though not a Ben 10 thing, hearing Rob talk about his rabbits is adorable. He is a cat and now a rabbit man!
No I think he means he has a rabbit problem, not that he has rabbits
17:33 I think that after that phrase it would have been cool show the clip from "The Secret of Chromastone" where Humungousaur changes into Jetray without touching the Omnitrix's symbol.
Sometimes you do that, after pointing an ability that a character has used in previous episodes then there are short breaks from the breakdowns that shows clips of that character in previous episodes using that ability.
I was really surprised that we didn't get to see Ben turn into one of Rook's species. This would have been the perfect episode to introduce such a transformation.
True but would Ben actually use it is the question
@@levievil9220 Idk, but it would have make for a cool figurine so the marketing department could probably have figured out a way to make them use it more.
@@Ender_Onryo true however I think they didn’t give Ben a blanko transformation to make sure rook can still be unique kinda like how both gwen and Ben are anodites but only Gwen uses it fully
3 years of Ben 10 reviews 🎉 loved every single one
Ah man I’ve really missed Ben 10 Breakdowns.
I absolutely treasure episodes where we just explore Ben 10’s world, like this and upchuck’s planet episode
Or planets if you count the ones that were eaten.
Fun fact about the flashframe at 15:55, but I've noticed that it might actually be a mark of Derrick J Wyatt himself. In Transformers Animated (also Art Directed by Derrick), this flashframe is used occasionally. One of the uses happens at 3:44 in the episode below.
th-cam.com/video/hfWszDDj1HM/w-d-xo.html
Also I will not rest until I find a "potato table" and buy it for my living room
So it's definitely a Derrick thing.
3:00 Well an example of that would be the crop lands of the mountainous areas of Vietnam. You can search up "staircase fields" or the Vietnamese word "ruộng bậc thang". They are truly feats of nature and extremely beautiful.
thank you for sharing the viatnamese word for them as well
10:43 On Earth there was terrace farming from the Incan Empire that is located in the modern day Andes.
Ok i know its just a coincidence but 7:54 rooks love instrast being voiced by brooks, a woman with rook in her name
3:15 Deserts with rock formations cut by wind like those in Arizona can give ridges like that.
So glad to have the Breakdowns back and I love this episode Ben and Rook get to bond and we learn more about the universe and Rooks planet a great time overall and Ben’s personality is pretty chill in this episode so that’s great too
"still discussing ben10 lore in 2024 its ben 10" wow i love that
3:07 10:45
These are probably based on farming terraces, which have been used in lots of areas around Earth for around five thousand years to decrease erosion and soil runoff
It’s a good detail given how much of the Revonnahgander society is based around agriculture
been binging all the breakdowns since doing some reactions on stream a few months back excited to say I'm finally caught up!
Thanks a bunch for watching!
January 14th I believe was the exact date the first breakdown was released, Can't believe it's been 3 years already! Congrats 🎉
You're a working adult why not just buy the actual series and watch it instead of a breakdown?
The diversity look of the Revonnah civilians is vast
Just imagine Alien Force style where they all have copy paste Rook faces
I even kinda find it funny that Ben is put in alien drags now^^'
I approve your idea for handling rabbits by the way, Kuro^^ Best of luck with that!
It's good, and my only real issue is a nitpick at worse.
seeing and learning about revonnah was reaally interesting and great
Hey man
@@christianparrish3292 hey man
heyoo how have you been
@@Aphelia. hi
Fun fact: Is confirmed that the muroids DNA are in the omnitrix.
But what would you call the transformation?
@@christianparrish3292Rollarat…
Okay that’s pretty bad but I don’t have anything better
@@yannismorris4772hmmm Brodent?
Either Rolldent or Road-ent.
I wish we saw Ben turn into a muroid,I can imagine the muroild wouldn't talk like wildmutt. This is one of the reasons I am sad that omniverse was cancelled and I blame those stupid omniverse haters
So glad the breakdowns are back
Ive been waiting for the breakdown love they are back.🔥 as always
Breakdowns are back! I'm so excited for this! Good morning everyone!
Travertines of Pamukkale in turkey may be count as the landscape you mentioned at 3:20
Also those stairs on mountains in Greece are similar, except man-made and for farming
17:44 I think that “you miss” of Ben is really cute
ALSO regarding the naming conventions - it's possible "Rook" is more like a family name. I remember in Elder Scrolls Morrowind the elves have a similar situation where the family name comes before the given name.
11:41 okay Kuro but how do we know this isn’t the first time the Celestial Sapiens recreated the universe, huh? For all we know the Ben Tennyson we have right here could be an artificial recreation of another Ben Tennyson. Just saying
We do learn in Universe V Tennyson that recreating a universe is a multiversal crime
pretty much.
@@axelnilsson5124 most laws only get put in place if the crime has been committed before! HAHAHOOOO
@@JakeTylenol there’s no before when celestialsapiens are involved as time is no factor for them
This is not an ordinary breakdowns, this an and beyond collab
13:41 Ben has plummer trainging, there's no excuse for this weapon negligence.
What if there was someone near the blast radius?
Gigachad theme starts playing as Fistrik descends.
11:32 you'd think ben would use a more Plant based alien to help with crops
I really love it when you note the similarities between Earthern-Culture and Alien Culture. It really feels like that was what the writers of the show were trying to convey when noting the various similarities and differences between Humans and other Alien-Species. We’re different but we’re also a little bit the same.
Love you Kuro, keep up the good work 💚👍
You’re keeping my favorite Childhood series alive with these videos, brother.
He knew a guy
@InevitableOption-ic2vx This honestly felt like it should have been a Dr. Animo plot in my opinion. Controlling animals is his whole MO and he has far most history with Ben to the point where it'd be more believable that he'd try making his way up to becoming an off world threat. Not the petty thug who we just met dealing alien technology on the streets!
Yeah I would change it to be a techadon weapon master or vulcanus exploiting the planet’s resources or something
From the whole him knowing so many other guys, it really seems like it was an operation that already started but he forced his way into.
Yeah that puzzled me too.
17:50 that's my favorite Kickin' Hawk attack.
I really wish Rook's brother were voiced by Bumper Robinson so he would've sounded like Transformers Animated Bumblebee.
8:55 reminds me of a friend of mine who went to Guatemala with his dad for a missionary (yes, his dad's a pastor), and my friend had girls running to him and had skirts minimal. Thank God i didn't have to see that happen for him.
5:07 "Same with us and our fruit"
*Proceeds to list everything but an actual fruit*
My favorite fruit is rice.
@@TheInkTankAh yes, I remember the rice fruit.
Personally, I think the Muroids always had the capability of higher thought, it's just that the Ravannaganders only saw them as pests and treat them as such, kinda like rats and mice
UAF was dark that one grip I have with that series here I like the bright and colorful series I like that
It's always nice to see the characters explore planets other than Earth on this show.
