I’ve heard of taking 2,000-6,000mgs of niacinamide and GABA as the niacinamide assist the GABA. As well as high doses of C (a sorbic acid)
This info was from a doc that helped his pt taper off Benzos.
I found it great as it helped me sleep at night due to some trauma I endured.

    Can L-theanine increase GABA?

Yes and in the best way.
It also shuts down some glutamate transporting mechanisms and opens up the flood gates for GABA naturally without any side effects.
      200mg dose in the morning.
As stated in another reply up to 50mg at night for better sleep.

      Research...
Gaba molecules are too big to cross blood brain barrier.
As many supplements out there it's another sell without benefits but for supplement industry.
L theanine in amino acid which will cross the barrier and acts on multiple pathways to increase GABA.(It's found in green tea in smaller amounts).
I use 200mg in the morning.
Maybe 50mg the most at night as well.
Cant use to much either at night it can give you insomnia or some palpitations if taken too much at night but during day no issues.
      Look it up.
      It works.
