    I can appreciate everything you said being older and learning how to ride back in the 80's. Motorcycles and tire tech was nowhere what it is today, you definitely needed to be concerned with traction and technique. I find it very hard to break the tires loose even doing everything wrong on a modern bike with a set of good sticky tires at anything close to legal road speeds. I feel that I'm only using a fraction of the traction available even when riding aggressively.

    So.. the best way to communicate the point at which to open the throttle is THE ARROW HEAD. The easiest way to describe this is the point at which the road begins to open up in front of you, So the point at which you see the Arrow Head expand is the point at which you increase power. A motorcycle is most stable when travelling in a straight line at a constant speed. The bike becomes less stable if you brake, accelerate or turn.It makes sense to do only one of these at any one time. The Arrow head will make you a more progressive, safer rider.

    Also just to be clear here is what the state of South Dakota tells new riders. (Fyi I’ve been riding since 1986). They say that you have to be ON THE throttle and increasing it BEFORE YOU START the corner. They also said never ever slow down to correct your turning. Only “push and pray”. I thought it was a joke. Push further into the lean and increase speed when your over shooting a corner ? Sure maybe me or this guy , yeah. But a new rider ??? No let of the throttle first and foremost. How is this real. We also wasted 5-6 hours solely going over specific stats of alcohol related moto crashes lol.

  • @michaelniemi

    I think a lot of people accelerate too early because they are going too slow in the corner and then want to pick up their pace, which leads to the problems & risks you mentioned. Going wide, chopping the throttle to try to adjust line, lean angle changes....etc.

    • @langhamp8912

      It's ok to accelerate early, even perhaps too early, because a lot of suspension woes get solved by simply having the bike mostly on the rear tire and cornering flat. What is not OK, and is downright dangerous, is to open the throttle while continuing to add lean angle, and yet that seems to be a really common error that most riders get away with most of the time.

    • @nathanyt

      That's why we need to learn neutral throttle while in the corner. Especially for smaller cc bikes, you will run out of momentum and may not make the corner if you don't apply neutral throttle. You don't accelerate until you see your exit still, you just maintain the rpm's to make the corner.

    • @langhamp8912

      @@nathanyt I wonder if big bike electronics is to blame for large throttle instead of neutral throttle. On my GSXS which does have TC, I've noticed I've become accustomed to using relatively large throttle opening at relatively high rpms even before arriving at the part of most lean, as electronics is really really good at not allowing the rear tire to spin up. It's almost absurd how much the electronics gracefully kicks in to stop wheelspin. I feel safer riding an inline 4 liter bike with TC than a 650 twin without TC, there's that much difference in feel.

    • @nathanyt

      @@langhamp8912 if you've always had TC on, then it might be. This is why we need to practice with and without tech if possible.

    • @TheArmanRus

      You can absolutely go slower to have less lean. Ride at your own pace and once you build up more confidence, then you can lean the bike more and go faster thru the same turns.

    If you slowed down too much going into a turn and want to maintain your speed is that where a low amount of throttle is okay or is it better to still wait until you're out of the turn? Lets say a turn speed limit is 35 and I'm going 25 and I want to maintain speed limit for safety

    • @RideFree317

      Yes it's OK to use throttle to maintain your speed and lean angle through corner. As you take lean angle away that's when you can give more to speed up if that's what you want . Greg going into corner faster then wait wait full power on exit .
