It is my personal belief that this is the finest work Rush has ever put forth. The complexity, the musicianship, the stylistic considerations, the story- all of it. This is Rush at their peak. And what a peak it is.
Respectfully disagree. They never peaked… plateaued early and went out on top of their game.. many different styles and sounds along the way but always top tier.
At 12:24 the way they add a rear view mirror to "Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage" from "A Farewell To Kings"... that was the moment in my musical life when I heard my mind go "pop". This album was such a huge influence on me as a budding musician and will always be one of my all time favorite albums of ANY band/artist and genre. (2:36 - that little bell/cymbol is the coolest thing ever!) Geddy's bass playing is so featured on this album as well. I imagine it is was very difficult to perform these songs live.
When I listen to bootlegs from that tour it sounds like they really struggled to play this song, especially Geddy. That's probably why they never played the full version of the song on any future tours and took it out of the set list for many years.
I was at the best live bootleg concert in STL...!!!! I am still downloading it all and it's been how long?! I had only two albums under my belt and this was NOT one. After medicating, I literally left the building in my mind creating my wonderous and magnificent future journey. this music helps astral travel...with the right help!!
How can anything negative ever be said about anything this band has ever done? How many musicians has Rush influenced? This band has influenced the bands that influenced them... What have you done musically that can even compare? Think about it... Peart is the most prolific rock lyricist of all time in my opinion. He covered so much ground on so many topics it's staggering. I've often wondered about these earlier albums if his writings were ever somewhat influenced by Canadian born mystic Manly P. Hall? Anyway, I love all the guys in RUSH. They raised me. And I'm indebted. ~●~
This mix is SO DIFFERENT than the one normally presented! I can hear snare ghost notes I couldn’t previously, and the bottom end is HUGE, almost drowning out Alex! And I’m only 1:26 in!❤

Has anyone ever considered this to also be a tribute to how Neil views himself in the band. Think about it Alex could be seen as the God of love and laughter and Getty like the God of thought and wisdom given their respective personalities and the black hole could represent the void from which Neil enters the band and then brings harmony to the three of them establishing their great working relationship as a band, Neil being the voyager Cygnus.
Cut my son's teeth (named him Alex) on this album. Literally drove around for 2 years while this CD looped. Now he's a serious guitar player who knows what great music is.
You gave him one of the greatest gifts a father could to a son. Real music by real musicians. I always cringe when I hear a parent say their kid is going to be the next pop star because they sound just like "place name of any generic pop star, since 1980 until now, here." These guys taught me that being a musician was about being unique compared to the pop music scene of their generation. Anyway, good luck to your son on his own musical journey! Cheers.

Sounds like a mono mixdown of the front channels of the 5.1 mix, leaving out the other channels !!! there are several soundbits absent (Lerxt solo almost doesn't sound at all, the trinagle at 2:36 is absent and Geddy's voice is muffled on several parts)... this was a mistake obviously, but a revealing one, there are some subtleties of Neil's playing that come across more clearly (ghost notes on the snare specially)
I noticed that too. Thought it might be my speaker, but you're right. Cool animation with the brain and all but this is too good of a song to get cheated on any sound. Thankfully, TH-cam, being the beast that it is, has a couple other videos (audio only of course, searched for live version to no avail), but grateful nonetheless for uploads of this amazing masterpiece.

I hate to second guess things like this, as there are a lot of directions to go here per the lyrics...but watching this, all I can think of is something Peart wrote in the Grace Under Pressure tour book: "The great people at the studio, Andre's wonderful food, and the fantastic library of movies ("The Man With Two Brains" was a big hit this time) helped to provide diversion and make us as comfortable as we could be (considering our condition!)." Can't help thinking this video is very Dr. Hfuhruhurr approved... :D

This is a stripped down edited mix. Mono but it's also missing some instruments and is drum heavy. I guess they did this so people wouldn't download it?

Hemispheres is a frickin' GOD-LIKE album!
It takes a Rush fan brain to appreciate their three brains. Clearly the guys’ calling to their fan base. We love you Dirk, Lerxst and Professor.
This version is pure GOLD! Total bottom heaviness!!! That Ricky is a poppin stomp & the richness of Pratts drums are pleasantly a thundering!
The guitars here never get enough recognition...he's the Mozart of Rock.

I noticed that too. Thought it might be my speaker, but you're right. Cool animation with the brain and all but this is too good of a song to get cheated on any sound. Thankfully, TH-cam, being the beast that it is, has a couple other videos (audio only of course, searched for live version to no avail), but grateful nonetheless for uploads of this amazing masterpiece.

I hate to second guess things like this, as there are a lot of directions to go here per the lyrics...but watching this, all I can think of is something Peart wrote in the Grace Under Pressure tour book: "The great people at the studio, Andre's wonderful food, and the fantastic library of movies ("The Man With Two Brains" was a big hit this time) helped to provide diversion and make us as comfortable as we could be (considering our condition!)."
