Hi everyone, i have roomba 531 (charging error 3 also) BTW Thank you for your video, i was watching it today to help me get to the motherboard in order to clean its contacts. They wasn't so dirty but yes there is some buildup between C112 & C113 (around contact area) so i scrubbed it clean and guess what? still no results...so as i was sitting and watching my disassembled roomba still blinking her red error lights, suddenly the idea hits me. Without unplugging the roomba i put it on its back, removed the cover and took off battery, so she complained - charging error 1...please charge roomba. I replaced the battery and there she is - charging! I just have to share it with everyone. I spent days figuring out this problem to restore my beloved roomba, and now - i can't be happier! :-)
When I took the battery out of mine, I noticed the contacts where green from battery corrosion . I cleaned them up and it worked better for a little while. Something happened to the mother board after that and I ended up replacing it. Thank you for watching the video!
Elena thank you so much!!! I have model with the same issue and before trying to get to the motherboard I did what you did and it worked!!! I tried a few times with no results but when I was about to give up I ensembled everything I turned it and there it was, charging!!! I'm so happy! You saved us a lot of money 😊😘
Elena you are a genius. Tried everything under the sun and your suggestion worked. In my case the battery had leaked and that too needed cleaning up. Cl;eaned everything including the motherboard and the charging error 3 would not go away. Finally turned it upside down removed the battery, plugged in the charger and it still said charging error 3 with no battery in it, put the battery in the roomba, turned it and saw the charging light blinking and no error. GENIUS. thx
It's videos like this that make life so much easier and affordable. I got a new original iRobot motherboard from Japan and thanks to this, Roomba was charging like new. Thanks!
I posted this elsewhere and here's my fix for error 3.... I had an error 3 as well. I cleaned the contacts inside and out. Still had the same issue. I accidentally dropped the Roomba from a few inches and the error 3 went away. So I thought all was good. After one cleaning and testing...the error 3 came back. I felt that the circuit board may be good, but the manner of which it charges may be the culprit. I took everything apart once again and notices some dark gray foam pads that secured the battery upright. Besides flipping the spring contacts that touches the battery to the circuit board and cleaning them the first time, this time, I removed the foam pads...added some additional padding with a foam tape, placed the dark gray foam pads on top of the foam tape and the units error 3 went away. Charging was back to normal and battery charging all okay. Thought I would mention it here since I was about to change the board but was hesitant since I didn't want to shell out the extra $ for a new board. Thx for the repair video regardless!
Thanks for the information. Mine will loose contact to the battery if I flip it over to hard after cleaning the rollers. I didn't thing about putting a foam pad on the battery. Thanks for watching and stay safe!
@@wonkster1970 its a poor design. My gray foam pad was permanently depressed...which is why the charging was sporadic. I also readjusted the contact springs and that worked only for a bit.
The battery contacts on the board are sometimes oxidized, they must be cleaned well, possibly tinned. This is how I repaired my Irobot and now it is perfectly functional
Solved adding more solder to the pads and bending a bit the battery contacts. To check if this will work, push the solder pads down and it should start charging.
Thank you worked for me :) now im having issues getting the front bumper on correctly! Ill figure it out so it bounces how it should but for now Ive lost patience
@@wonkster1970 i sorted it, the front sensors werent slotted back in properly which stopped the bumper sitting correctly, its now working as new, and its had a mini service, amazing how much dust was inside this thing especially under the brush box! Oh and i didnt have to replace the whole PCB i used cleaner on all the terminals and it started charging again
I found 6 bad solder joints on the motherboard i fixed my problem by re soldering the bad solder joits most of the bad solder joints were on the electrolytic capacitors it seem's like they use really cheap solder you could scrape it off really easy
I had thought about re soldering the connections. I can solder but I have a hard time with soldering the small components. I'm glad to hear you were able to fix yours. Thanks for watching.
The solder on the board and the connections that the battery contact were corroded. I tried cleaning up the battery contacts but it didn't make a difference. I could of tried soldering the board but it was easier to just replace it. Thanks for watching.
1.You only replaced a mainboard You did not show how to fix error 3 2 .You downgraded this machine . Main board you removed has RF module(it is not going to work with light house with out this module do not mix up with virtual wall ) "new" board doesn't include this module
Well that would explain why the virtual wall doesn't work anymore. Replacement of the board did fix the charging error 3. The contacts were bad on the board where the battery makes contact.
Lol... changing the mother board because of battery issue is a freaking joke. @Wonkster1970 And then your're advising people to make the same mistake as you.
The battery was already replaced. I had also cleaned the contacts on the board. I could of tried resoldering the connections but that may of just been a temporary solution. The Roomba is still running. Thanks for watching.

I have done it. I replaced the Old baytery to the brand new on li-ion. Now it is Charliego, hope romba will be working 😀

Good to hear. Thanks for watching.
I had same issue with charging and the problem was the motherboard had lot of bad solder joint seems like they use really low quality solder on them
This was very helpful. I watched and watched you take out all those screws...I said screw that and tossed the whole thing in the trash. Thanks
Most of the screws are in the front bumper. I screwed it good! Sorry to hear you dumped yours in the trash. Mine is still running. Peace.
