There were layers to that show. Most importantly he really stood up for the art of comedy. It isn't just to make people laugh, it has always been the test of freedom of speech since the time of jesters (before that even). When he told the story of Daphne he revealed a larger truth. When the jester is driven to death, that is the limit of speech. That is the limit of the art. That entire show was a powerful protest over that level of oppression and how the tyranny over speech inevitably took a life. I hope it matters.

If moral authoritarians shut down all other outlets of expression, that leaves just one: real world violence, which we don't need more of. That's why it's so important to safeguard our freedoms of speech and expression.
