Today is the 5th of 6 total bars in the series, titled something to the effect of, Weird Stuff in Lye to Find a Vegan Alternative to Tussah Silk. It's a working title.
Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Interesting video. Beautiful soaps, love the experimentation 👌
I'm from India and here fabric made from Banana pith silk is used to make saris and other garments. It is a durable textile and has a natural sheen. It's derived from the stems or stalks of banana plants.

Yay, finally I did banana soap ! I've just cut it yesterday so it's not tested yet but I know for sure I'll make it again 💛 🍌
Not only did I put banana peel in lye solution but I also put actual banana purée mixed in oils, and I'm loving it already.
    And the smell...😍

Girl, banana is absolutely amazing on the skin. I put banana purée in almost all my soap’s. I put banana peel powder in my face masks I sell. I do a banana nut bread and I put colloidal oats, banana, purée, and coconut milk and I have dry skin in the winter it’s bad but I use the and my skin everywhere especially my face was beautiful. I put in most of my soap’s and the ones I don’t I put pumpkin or carrot purée in my soap. I know u will luv it.

Banana skins are great for your skin! Try rubbing the inside on your face, quite apart from using in cakes for all their nutritional benefits not to mention making soap. It makes lovely skin soap❣️🌸…except I add the prepped peel at trace so it’ll retain as many of its properties as possible 😊

I'm loving this series! I've been looking into making licorice extract and found out it had to be heated over 160* and maybe that's what's going on with the lye. Because lye water gets so hot it's able to extract the proteins and other constituents. Anyway, thank you for all this work your doing to show us all the fun we could have as well as great soaps!!

I actually prefer to eat a starchy banana. Not completely green, but definitely greener than most people eat them. I find they’re too sweet to eat once fully ripened and end up using them in a smoothie with tart fruits or banana bread.
