p,s. I've watched the Financial Diet over the past few years on and off. It is valuable to watch. Don't kid yourself about the economy - believe what you see when you grocery shop and pay your bills. It's not good. I've been retired for 24 years and the value of my retirement dollars has decreased dramatically. Old people are so easily overlooked. We're not the voters anyone is looking to please Our peak earning years are behind us, we won't be able to give a candidate 30 or 40 years of voting loyalty, and we're mostly ignored when it comes to the cost of living. Thanks for letting me vent here. It's been a hard month of loss and frustration.
Being a woman, over 65, and morbidly obese means that I am never heard by medical professionals. Thanks for sharing the info about muscle strength. As always, I blamed it on my weakness/lack of willpower. Another topic: I am seeing so many people taking hugely expensive multiple vacations - that could explain the recent jump in credit card debt! And thanks for sharing everything today, it's good to know that we are in it together!
It is helpful. I feel less alone. Rocks and sticks for dinner. I felt this one. Your hair cut is very pretty on you. I love your vocabulary. If you wrote a book, I’d definitely read it. Agree about the illustrated puzzles. I am a huge fan of your sweater reconstructions and I’ve just discovered you! Not a fan of summer either. Also, your voice is so comforting. Thanks for sharing!
I just learned of the book The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan. Have you read it? My library ordered a copy when I put in a request after seeing the book at a bookstore (love that about our libraries!). The drawings look exquisite and I can’t wait to read it! Thought you might be interested as well.
As another youngish person with zero hormones for very similar reasons, I appreciate knowing about the difficulties building strength. I'm sorry it's tough going at the moment, I deeply appreciate what you do here ❤
I am living proof you can build muscle and be strong post menopause. Everyone is different, but even if it’s taking longer than when I was 58ish, I am returning to my personal record. I’m 67 now, and bench pressing 185 lbs. which is only 20 pounds from my all-time goal. It is possible. Start small, keep at it, pick something. you like/love (I didn’t even know I loved powerlifting until I tried it), do it for you. I feel strong, healthy, happy, and proud. You can do this and you will be glad. Baby steps.
You most definitely are not the only one. Life had been hard lately and a lot to carry around. Couple that with world events and being post-menopausal and then not being heard by my MD for coping strategies or guidance. It's as if we're all a new species that arrived on Earth and our health care system doesn't know what to do with us. I say that as someone who works in healthcare. You just know that if men had to deal with any of our symptoms/ struggles, there would be a fast-track to approving another blue pill to make us happier. Grrrrr. Thanks for your TED Talk. I truly appreciate learning about building muscle post-menopause. On a happier note, Happy Belated Birthday. It sounds like you had a good day. Love you XXOO
You always put me in a certain state of mind... like in a really good way, so waaaay not complaining!! I love where my whole person is, when I watch your videos. It's like we aren't even in this time, or place. The world as it is doesn't exist in your podcast time. (When I watch it, I mean.) thank you for your time that you spend putting these together for us. So much appreciated by me for sure❤❤❤ Real life is very hard right now, it is nice to know I'm not the only one who feels that way, it's nice to hear your REAL.
I can recommend Pilates for building bone strength. But you need to find the right teacher, and that is not easy! Endurance just comes from walking, or whatever your chosen exercise is. Rowing machines are good if you have an affordable place to use one. My post-hysterectomy journey is complicated by pretty severe osteoporosis, not fun.
I also have a hard time going places when I don’t know what to expect. I can do it, but it usually makes me anxious. I also struggle going places/sales/stores that aren’t organized. If there’s a lot of stuff and it’s disorganized I become completely overwhelmed and generally leave earlier than I would if it was well organized. This getting overwhelmed thing has definitely gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. 😜
Kari Anne Wright on TH-cam talks all things menopausal, from her experience and has a good episode about staying strong and regaining strength. It may be of help.
My favorite apple here in Washington state is the Ambrosia. It stays firm and so sweet. Also, have you froze cherries? When you bite them, they are just an easy bite, not hard. I also love to dry things like onions, and I love homemade dried bananas. I hate hard ones they sell.
I love the sweater you're wearing! What pattern is it, I'm sorry if you said it in the pod ast and I missed it. Thanks for another entertaining episode, I always enjoy watching your podcasts.
I love that you're getting into cross stitch. I can do over one on 40 count but I have to use a hoop and 4.0 magnification readers. It's kind of fun once you get into it.
I can see (pun shamelessly intended) that the tiny stitches could be fun…They feel oddly satisfying? I hadn’t thought of a hoop making smaller stitching easier. Thanks for the tip!
I’m so glad you have found a doctor that you feel comfortable with. Like, why are hot flashes the only marker of menopause that 95% of the non-menopausal population know about?!
@@fatsquirrelfibers It is so depressing. I no longer have a uterus and find it ridiculous that there is no way to learn when I go into menopause unless I show visible symptoms.
Always great to sit and chat with you--sending lots of hugs. ❤❤❤ I’m in my 60s and prefer a side part because I can move it a bit to prevent breakage at my part and to cover my highlights growing out. 😊 I watch funny dog videos to relax and then wonder if these people in their perfect homes made their money from making funny dog videos. I couldn’t read a book about climate change-so many problems in the world are overwhelming. ❤❤❤
I’m also a huge fan of Charles Wysocki puzzles. Funnest ones because of little fun areas of interest and always an American flag somewhere hidden. Going to try that pickle recipe too! Happy Summer
Trust me gealthcare right now isn't listening. I'm battling to get my 93yo mom put if hospital because her mental status is sliding. She is on a rehab floor. Talking to them is like listening to crickets. I'm a retired health professional and it means nothing. So sorry you are experiencing this grief. Check your insurance if they will pay fir a personal trainer if ordered by physician.
Post menopause for 20 years now and it is a pure delight! LOL!!! I hope you can read sarcasm. I have in the past few years noticed my strength waning as I deal with chronic pain from a degenerative disk disease. It is very frustrating but it is better than doing nothing because then you are going in one direction only - downhill. Hang in there!!
I like to hear about peoples lives (as much as theyre willing to share), especially when things are difficult. Obviously i dont enjoy people having a difficult time, but everyone does at some point so it feels less lonely.
Realizing that you can only control what you can control is important. Tough times happen but it is always better on the other side. Just keep on keeping on. You are a breath of fresh air. Oh, and I love your garden.
I hear you on so many levels! Side parts look better on most people because our faces aren’t symmetrical even though our eyes perceive it that way. A center part enhances the asymmetry which we don’t find attractive. A side part embraces the difference and people consequently look more attractive. No part or side part tends to be in style more often for this reason but people like to change trends, so the choice now is being aware of what looks naturally beautiful on an individual or chasing a trend. I’m a Gen X and don’t feel the need to make my hairstyle fit a trend.😊
You’re preaching to the choir, sister, on doctors having deafness toward the obese. I have often felt unheard and that all my health issues were of my own doing because of my weight. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to meeting you one fine day to exchange knowing looks on so many things.
My mom (who came of age in the 60s) ALWAYS parted my hair down the center. I remember her taking the comb and starting at the tip of my nose to make sure she got it *right in the center* and there were always 2-3 tries to get the part perfectly centered.😂When I started doing my own hair, I moved that part to the side and never went back.
I hear you. Occasionally throughout my life (old enough to be your mom) I find a quote or lyric etc that resonates strongly. The one of late (that I have taped to the edge of the shelf in front of where I sit at the PC) "Don't measure your progress using someone else's ruler". I'm constantly having to remind myself of that. You are an amazing lady, and I look up to you.
must tell you you are the perfect candidate for a cropped bob, very stacked in back, longer around front, part wherever u like!! please cut it that way soon. you’d look fantastic c it

Hi Amy Beth! Another fun podcast, and while enjoying it I got to wondering whether you’ve done an episode on knitting with un-spun wool, and if so, whether you’ve talked about “pillage” (taking poetic license with that word, but I know you’ll understand)! 🌷
I have not. I love the feel of unspun wool, but the pilling is an issue….Like most pilling it will often slow down as the short fibers are sloughed off and the others bind together.
Ok thanks for that info Mary Beth. Maybe I’ll try woolen spun first! Once I can knit a sweater in less than 3-4 months I may get braver. 😉 p.s. your haircut looks great
Your Nexxus is looking really great!! Question: I'm 40 minutes into your video and I don't recall you saying what pattern you used for the sweater you're wearing. It's really cute!
We’re in the city, and while I’ve seen plenty of groundhogs, they’ve never been all that interested in our yard. The raccoons or squirrel will occasionally chomp a tomato, but that’s usually the worst of it.
@@fatsquirrelfibers, you are lucky! I live in the city as well (San Francisco), but the moles have a whole tunnel system through this entire neighborhood.
