Tomorrow is orange shirt day in my daughter's school district (for indigenous recognition and reconciliation). The small sized tshirt I bought today was too big. I did your method of reducing the size and it worked really well. I like NOT having to cut off the sleeves and reattach them to the arm holes. Thanks for your fabulous tutorial. You're a lifesaver! Celina
Oh Thank You!! I need to resize my son's shirt today for Kindergarten and don't have much time. It's been a while since I've sewn, and *this* video is hands down the most simplest and to-the-point one I found. Just Subscribed!
I have a shirt that I got too large and I was thinking of doing it this way but nervous it wouldn’t work out well. I see that it has and now I can fix my shirt in peace! Thank you!
Great tip! I’ve had to use it once for a team I was on and they only had XL! I ended up having to remove the sleeve because the shoulder was too wide. It was funny when I arrived at the event other ladies were wondering how I managed to get a fitted tee when I signed up at the last minute! (Our little sewing secrets, right?!) 😉😃
This video was much easier to follow than the other videos I had seen. I had to cut and ismantle the sleeves and re shape it and attached to the body of the shirt again. I did it but I find this much, much easier. That means, I do not need to send back my new shirts...yaaaaay.
Yay, its good to watch a sewing video by someone British. 😁 Thankyou for posting. i will try to use your video to make a top i bought from sports direct, smaller.
You are so pretty and the altered shirt fits you well. Going through TH-cam, there are many fused variations one can follow, and yours is simple to comprehend. I will add a flounce to mine. TKS!
I’m new at sewing but started off quilting which I haven’t quite gotten the hang of either but getting better. I’m trying to alter my Yorkie’s t shirt but was having a bit of trouble and that’s when I went in search of help and found you. I now know how to alter some of my shirts! Would this same process work on a sleeveless dog t shirt? I’m sure this isn’t the type of question you get but I thought you would know. Thanks for a great tutorial and I’m a subscriber now!🙂
All purpose (polyester thread). It is best to use zig zag or a stretch stitch because it is a knit fabric. Thanks for taking the time to comment H Lan!
Colleen G Lea - FSBTV I’m so glad I read other comments and the replies. I’m trying to learn needle size and also thread, which is better for what fabric etc. To just have watched one of your tutorials I have learnt quite a bit already....you’re a great teacher THX❤️
Thank you. This was very helpful just starting to sew and I have just mastered my machine 😁 Now onto projects and I'm definitely going g to try this. Just subscribed to your channel.
I just took my 5x shirts down to a large went through a few life changes. I need a little advice, I have a nice squence top that is a 4x and I need to make it a large advice is needed before I act. I do not want to buy new cloths yet because this stuff is new. And, I do not have luck selling cloths.
Hello Beverley. You will have to remove the sleeves, cut the shoulder to the required length, reshape the armhole and the side seams of the t-shirt. I hope that helps, would you like me to do a video tutorial?

Yes totally.😀
I wish I hadn't sent all the t-shirts that were far too big for me to the charity shop now! I'm a beginner, so this was very helpful! TFS xx

Hello Sydney. Yes I'm sure it will, sew happy you enjoyed the tutorial. Thanks for subscribing.
I love the idea. I am going to try that on my t-shirt. Thank you
Thank you for commenting Patricia Hooks.
This was a great video. Is there anyway to make a neckline smaller
You could take out the required amount at the neckline and taper it into the shoulder point. I hope that helps!
Wonderful! ❤
Thank you! 😊
I lost a bunch of weight and I love my clothing but it's so unflattering now. I can't wait to try these!
Good luck Rebekah, and thanks for commenting.
Many thanks for another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it Intreaged. Thanks for commenting!
I like the shirt you are wearing, black at the top n white bottom. Can do a tutorial on this?
Thank you Ah, I will put it on my 'To Do List"
What stitch would you recommend for this fabric? Stretch, zig zag or straight?
Stretch stitch or zig zag stitch Pip.
Thank you!
Wow! I'm going to try it on my tshirt tomorrow
Good luck Meteor , and thank you for commenting
What type of thread did you use? All purpose? Would it make a difference if a regular stitch was used rather than zig-zag?
All purpose (polyester thread). It is best to use zig zag or a stretch stitch because it is a knit fabric. Thanks for taking the time to comment H Lan!

What if the sleeves are already fitting well, how do you finish the side seem ?
You can finish the side seams in the same way Lois, as in the video. Just stop at the underarm seam, and don't sew into the sleeve area.
Thank you. This was very helpful just starting to sew and I have just mastered my machine 😁 Now onto projects and I'm definitely going g to try this.

Just what I was looking for. No need to remove the sleeves and they come out longer than the baby caps. Perfect, thank you!

Maybe think about adding to the side seams to make it larger Heather.
Great video, but how do you make the shoulders shorter so the seamline doesn't come down the arm and look droopy?

No problem Z'Nyce London!
Thanks
My pleasure Bridgette.
What if the sleeve doesn't need to be down sized which means I only want to tream out the sides
It is still possible to use this technique, don't sew into the sleeve if you can help it.
Thank you!
No problem Cheryl.
muy útil, muchas gracias y saludos desde Uruguay.
Glad I could be of help Beatriz Belloso! Thanks for commenting.

Sorry to hear that! Good luck with buying your fabric scissors Leafie.
i got a playboy shirt that’s too big. i don’t wanna make the seams showing that visibly but i don’t wanna look like i’m shaped like a box 💀
Sew it on the wrong side!
