    Barley was S tier in siege, and he's solid competitively too.

      He was S tier mainly because the only other throwers were Sprout, Dynamike and Tick. There's also the fact that he could damage the Siege IKE safely with his super and not take any damage while doing so.

      I think it's because it's a mode where you need to be very good at dealing damage over time with a long range (on the I.K.E) --like Grom and Sprout can do-- while still having good mid-range/defense/zone ability to compete when collecting the bolts --which Tick can do well--
      And Barley could do both really well so he was a great pick, whereas other gamemodes in the game right now only favor one side or the other.

    Good video! I think dynamike’s strength is also a big reason Barley never gets used. I think the best way to buff barley without a huge overhaul to his mechanics would be to increase the time his attacks stay on the ground, making him a better controller compared to dynamike or L&L. His lingering attack now puts him closer to tick, but with the key differences of having less range, but having the ability to fight better up close without the need of a super. Throwers in general have shown to be oversaturated, as they have similar mechanics, but at least we can make Barley a little distinct from his competition.

      honestly works for it, she has crazy good pressure over walls. she's a hybrid controller/artillery, though right now it feels like she's balanced around the controller because throwable attacks are so broken inherently

    Barley was in the top 20 most picked/banned brawlers in the recent monthly finals, he s a good brawler, in fact probably better than dyna, is just not a flashy brawler and you can t really carry with him so the casuals prefer to play more funny options.

    Barley Main here
    I think Barley is unique in the sense that he is one of the only throwers that is better in close range than long range. His sticky gadget lets him counter most close ranged brawlers, given that you can get close in the first place. To do that, you usually want to play as bait waiting around a wall or corner for an approach or you walk up, just enough to get them in gadget range and then back off quickly. Because of this, his best gamemode is probably showdown (or hot zone depending on the map). However with the addition of Kit ravaging solo showdown maps, it is recommended to strictly play duos as kits can not risk jumping you since you have a teammate to kill it during it's super. The only real downsides of Barley are the addition of hypercharges which allow most brawlers to ignore Barley's sticky gadget BUT Barley is confirmed to get his own Hypercharge next update which might save him. Additionally, his heavy dependency on his gadget makes it almost a requirement to use the extra gadget gear every match.

      Tick is much more close range equipped with super and gadget too. Imo barley just fell off cause he has kinda replaced by lawrie and he is just boring now (and it is kinda hard to hit two parts off attack)

      great analysis! While you are correct that Barley is very good at short range because of his gadget, it's never a good sign when a brawler relies on something that is not a part of their base kit with a few exceptions.

      I actually love playing him in Brawl Ball. It is such an aggressive game mode, but then you are there doing it in your own tempo.

    i’ve always thought the seeds for barley to be better were there he just needs a few reworks. like i think his slow gadget would be more useful if it would instead be thrown onto the nearest enemy, or even have a star power that can allow his attacks to slow enemies for a split second like gale

    Barley's actually pretty strong this ranked season. If you look at pro-gameplay due to his double healing gadget and star power he's a great counter pick to other throwers when assassins are too risky. I agree that normally he isn't meta, but at top level atm he's strong. Part of the reason why tick and sprout were considered better throwers at the beginning of this ranked season was just cuz they have hypercharges.

    hello everyone! i'm the writer of the powerpoints, wanted to clarify something (again)
    So it turns out after i wrote the script for the powerpoint, the monthly finals happened, and barley was indeed picked. However, my point was not regarding meta relevance--any brawler can be meta relevant if they have the stats. If Hank could one-shot every brawler in the game, he'd be S tier for sure, even though he is mechanically weak.
    Barley's getting picked right now because his attack deals a cumulative 3200 damage per ammo. That's not mechanical strength, that's inflated stats. If Barley didn't have the stats he does now, he would be a second-rate Willow, or a second-rate Dynamike, etc. Throwers right now are just piled on top of each other in order of inflated stats, and the one with the most inflated stats is going to be picked or banned first, and the one with the second most will be picked or banned if the first one is banned or picked, etc. That is not good character design.

    Barley’s biggest strenght is being a zoner wich he is better than most throwers, however his biggest problem is that he is way too outdated to others
    Barley is strong in mid range but he is mediocre at low-long range, so i feel like he needs an hability rework just to make him more unique and stronger at zoning or dealing dps than any other thrower

    I think his puddles should last longer and his attacks should make brawlers slow down if they linger on puddles for a bit, that would make him better at further distances(would make up for the slow bottle throw).

    As a barley main, even i can say that barley currently is outvlassed by every thrower in everything he does. Hes not even a good all-around option, since id argue that larry and lawrie and even willow and dyna fit that description better. He was only ever good a few years ago when Supercell increased his range to be more than dynas, but even then they reverted the change an update later. His kit is just too basic compared to other brawlers, which makes him fun to mess around with and play for me, but makes him pretty bad competetively. I hope his hyper charge is alright though

    I think barley is severely underrated along with buster and gray. You never see them but once you do you get crushed. They all have good matchups in this meta and can pop off on the right maps, but they cant really carry a team to victory as much as other brawlers like angelo dyna rosa etc.

    Barley was accurate pretty usable back then.
    He is pretty forgotten now because all other throwers outclass him, and because of all no-skill brainless assasins that hd stands no chance against.
    The thing is barley never got nerfed, they just indirectly made him bad by making every other thrower better

    6:40 what about Grom with Foot Patrol? A 15% movement speed buff makes him go from 720 to 830 movement speed
    (820 movement speed is very fast)

    Berry being a supportive artillery that heals without a star power, has knocback for a gadget, a fast dashing super for assassinating or escape and a star power that doubles his reload being released soon.

    Barley main here, barley is meant to support the team in general without being a support, his first gadget is to support the whole team in there interactions and his 2nd gadget was only made so he can protect himself from assassins. As for his issues barley is VERY dependent on maps not modes, just looking at his star powers alone you can tell your build depends on the map, are you in a close ranged map? just use extra noxius since you wont be getting dealt that much damage, are you in a slightly open map? Use medical use so you can get back hp while still keeping your pressure. Thats all i can say but i have to admit barley has been playing better than usual because hes very uncommon to face. Honestly if people faced barley more then he'd be in trouble, as for his super it can take up ALOT of space and control where your opponent is going. I still think his super deserves a rework but you should use it wisely.

    You made some solid points, but you're really wrong about the sameness syndrome. All the artilleries have their unique roles and purposes just as every other class. Barley is a zoner who specializes in choke point control and keeping the enemies away from the important places of the map. Tick is a zoner similar to Barley but he cannot punish the enemies for trying to cross through the chokepoints like Barley can, but he makes up for it with his long range and crazy super. Dynamike is simply a damage dealer which is the reason why is he the most popular artillery, he can deal damage and get kills which is also the reason why is Piper the most popular marksman. Sprout has a long range, he's good in tight spots on the map and he can have a lot of value on grassy maps which makes him really versatile. Willow has a playstyle similar to Gene's, her super is so powerful that it can change the tide of battle instantly. Grom is the long range artillery, due to his unique attack and wall destroying super he has value on both closed and open maps. He can also provide a lot of utility with his watch tower gadget, or straight up just deal a lot of damage with his other gadget. And of course we have Larry, the annoying one. He can easily deal damage with his main
    attack and he can also play a role of a spawner similar to Nita's with his super. But yeah, you were right about throwers being easily replacable.

    I’m a huge fan of throwers since i main tick and barley (and Otis but he’s not a thrower) and I use Larry and lawrie and dynamike sometimes. I hope barleys hypercharge is good 🙏

    I wished his super didnt get reworked. The og barley super dealt 8k dmg at close range. It literally deleted any close range engages if you played him correctly.

    4:22 wdym ”same” thrower attacks are very different.
    Like grom and sprouts attacks are nothing like each other, willow and ticks attacks are very different too.
    And people complain that they are the same because they can throw, well thats basically what they need to be able ro do if they are a thrower

    For a bit after global release, Barley (a technically free brawler) had damage on each of his super projectile separately. The damage in Heist was so funny
    Edit: Forgot to mention it properly, the distance between each super projectile depended on how far you threw the super. If you hugged the enemy safe and auto-aimed, that was a lot of damage

    I disagree with all throwers being same. All throwers play like different classes. Tick plays as a chip damage brawler who doesn't deal high damage but can hit brawlers from long distances and lower their damage. This is something useful in bounty. Grom plays like a thrower marksman. His attacks are very long ranged, can deal high damage but incredibly hard to hit. This works in heist and bounty. Dynamike is a raw damage dealer and can cycle supers so he can take out multiple brawlers at once but he has to keep enemies at the end of his range because his attacks get wider. He doesn't have a longer range like other 2 either so he is useful in heist and brawl ball. Barley and willow seem same but barely is more damage and area control focused so he is useful in gem grab, heist and hot zone. Willow deals less damage and has a unique super. She excels in brawl ball and hot zone.

    While I do agree throwers can replace each other in competitive matches, they do have somewhat of a distinction in their utility and I think that should be the focus of them moving forward too. Maybe add a new trait to Barley to make his attacks having a lingering effect even if the enemies get out of the puddle. Maybe a heal debuff?

    5:20 saying throwers are all the same makes no sense, thats like saying marksmem are all the same because they all have pretty long range.
    Yes, throwers all have the ability to throw but they wouldnt be throwers if they didnt have it. So calling them the same because of a trait they all have to make them a thrower makes zero sense.
    Also thrower attacks are very different, like dynamikes attack is nothing like groms, or ticks, or sprouts, all have different gimmicks its just that they are all throwers which makes kids think they are the same

      the thing that makes marksmen different is that longer range isn't as broken an ability as throwable attacks. this lets them have some variety, but nothing compared to like damage dealers for example. throwers are just even more restricted, leading to most being picked for the same things

      That was initially true for all throwers.
      Dynamike base attack is like that.
      If they added it back to barley I honestly think that given today brawler attack inflation it would somehow be a good thing.
      I mean even a nuke of 6k do not look so scary today

    I always had a problem how L&L are just better Barley. They are similar but so imbalanced.
    devs should NOT make same brawler but on crack.
    How can you have a thrower that's mostly the same but has higher stats in everything and even a coverage for its weakness!?
    This causes dmg infaltian and power creep to seep in while pushing older brawlers to obscurity since their kit as a concept just can't keep up.
    And they keep on releasing throwers with more base health! That's not fair for him.

      Your point about Penny just reminded me that we have two throwers with a super that let's you throw over walls for some time (technically 3 if you count the twins again with the weapon swap gadget)
      Kit!
      I think we really need a rework for this brawler not _just_ because he's annoying, but because he's not being used the fully intended way. He's no longer a support but an assasin, and it's all because of his basic kit (heh).
      So the root of the problem is how he's encouraged and rewarded to be played like an assasin.
      He's a melee fighter for some reason, Kit has _relatively_ low dmg and low hit points, which is a weakness his cardboard box gadget and self charging super make up for. But at the same time they encourage his play style to be reminiscent of Edgar.
      Pair that invisibility, and self charging jump with his Power Hungry star power and and you have a very toxic brawler.
      newbies tend to play stricte aggressively like shooting Gus super at enemies, which means they might as well quit before they ever find out Gus is a support for a reason. Same is with other support including Kit.
      He may be worse than Edgar in case of the insane power to win so many 1v1s, but his super stuns ppl, which helps your team/enemies regardless of how useful you are in sd.
      My idea is to make Kit's assasin build less rewarding and his supportive build less punishing.
      - Kit is once again immune to all sorts of dmg when jumping on an enemy
      - Super now deals less impact dmg but does more ticks of dmg (so now it's impact dmg + 3 seconds of fmg over time)
      - He doesn't stun but significantly slows enemies down
      - Cardboard box no longer buffs his supercharge rate
      - His super naturally charges faster
      - Power Hungry star power is removed and replaced with something better, idk what
      Notice how unlike Jessie or Penny, Kit is made to be an "all rounder" instead of improving on his one thing. F**k that, it's always a brawler with no weakness that's broken. We need to change that.
      His thrower attack has longer range, faster hit speed but lower dmg. There, it's less punishing to have him be a thrower, your welocome.

    I've been waiting 2-3 weeks for this and the first thing I see is barley being a failed thrower 💀. Im going to edit this message giving my comments when I'm done
    watching.
    What you said about barley and throwers are basically right; They basically all play the same. Their only main differences are through supers in which some feel randomly added on. In general; Most artielly and throwers are the same and the skills are so transferable they can be basically the same brawler.
    However I would like to say from my experiences playing barley alot and going to be my eternal main (Gold 3 Currently) that barleys kit is nicely done,that he serves as the best begginer "starting" thrower for new players to get used (hes free too lol), and that other throwers should differentiate FROM barley and not the other way around.
    1. Barleys kit is much built around the consistent area denial of his base kit. This allows him to control parts of the map and control player movements to his advantage. Unlike other throwers his super actually flows very well into this and can turn the tide of the match (Not only that; There is tech to widen or tighten the spread which allows for you to help block an area or tighten one for the kill). This design has been very attractive to me but more importantly the entire kit actually builds off of this idea while other throwers seemingly have tacked on mechanics that dont seem to synergize that much at all
    2. Barley being quite litterally free makes him the starting thrower of the group and it fits well. His kit is simple but still gives the basic idea of what a thrower will look like and most of artilley. He covers the throw attack, duh, but also the zoning/controlling power of them usually by the basic splash area the throw attacks usually have, and remember like said in #1 its consistent to the idea throughout and nicely done. If I were to reccomend somebody to play a thrower to understand how a thrower works (not the best thrower) I would for sure reccomend barley.
    3. Lastly, as I said in #1/2 barleys kit is good and a good starter for throwers, but why is he then so outclassed? Pretty much like you said, all throwers are the same which means they are going to share around the same idea but their broken mechanics will just make them ten times better. (OR STRAGHT OUT TAKE HIS ENTIRE KIT AND BE BETTER *cough* LARRY) In that reason, I would not think its fair for barley to get reworked since hes a good simple thrower and that the other throwers need major working on to be actually unique in gameplan.
    I would like to note that there are still good designed throwers that can be changed to be better. (I can only think dynamike who takes a much more offensive front.)
    In general though, Barley is a good designed thrower, with some balance issues from there or there but he doesnt need to be reworked since he isnt the root of the problem; hes just the root of all throwers.
    I would like to hear your thoughts on this analysis please :)))

      honestly, in hindsight, you're right. barley's the first thrower you unlock and the first thrower to ever be introduced into the game, other throwers should be designed around him. I feel like the "failed thrower" concept kind of referred to the artillery class as a whole, as a failed concept with little differentiation. where marksmen succeeded, artilleries failed.

      I think the area denial is definitely a niche that Barley has but the fact that Larry and Lawrie basically have the same attack copypasted kind of ruins Barley's niche, that's kind of what I was going for with that part. There's also the fact that by virtue of most Artillery attacks being AoEs, a lot of Throwers can deny area somewhat as well. Willow and Sprout come to mind, as their attacks still zone very well. Barley does it best, I agree, but the difference is so small that no one is picking Barley as a specialized zoner.
      2.
      Barley definitely has good design, I will not argue with that. He's a perfect introduction to the Thrower class--I would not have done anything differently if I were to order the throwers in terms of viability.
      3.
      Yeah, Barley should not get reworked. It's the other Throwers that are the problem here, and I failed to realize this when I was writing the script. Barley's design is good, it's just that the powercreep that other Throwers create makes Barley harder to justify a pick for in terms of pure mechanical strength. Right now, Barley's being picked, but his attack damage is also massive compared to other Throwers, for no good reason other than to make him good. The problem is when Barley has normal stats, there is no reason to pick him anymore, other than "oh, willow's banned? let's go for the second best option" and I think that's terrible design.

      @@SqquareLord for #1 the tech is basically walking during barleys super. The general idea is that walking toward the super tightens the area while walking backwards spreads the area far out. But also yeah, barley isnt the full zone specialist I would want it to be, his kit is good but I think we can improve his zoning potential mainly by star power hopefully. (I would choose to rework the second one IF we would want to swap one out. Its only there to help against melee matchups or just stomping noobs. Other attributes are shared by the other starpower but mostly outclassed .) Do note though that the area denial does help alot psychologically and its linger has quite litterally made me "escort" people to the corner so I can kill them easily.
      but for 3. your for sure right but i want to say that damage can matter for barley mainly because just like how others keep away from others; damage is a tool to scare people away and if barleys damage is too weak hes alot more viable for melee classes to walk through his puddles which is supposed to scare people away. His damage is a little crazy though; combo it with a slow gadget and it basically becomes another win condition 💀

      honestly it seems like they had a decent idea on how to make throwers that was just kinda lost over time, dynamike barley and tick all had pretty distinctive niches and playstyles while still being throwers, barley being the base, dynamike more about dealing big damage and tick focusing on the area denial and pressuring aspect of throwers, but then you got willow who has a very unique super but her main attack is basically just barley except poison and doesnt really fit with everything else.
      and larry who is literally once again just barley except his super spawns lawrie to help him out but doesn't have anything else to distinguish him in playstyle other than that.
