She definitely overdoes it at times but honestly it feels like it’s got to the point where anytime she belts a note someone accuses her of “screaming” lmao

Did everyone forget her botched performance of the National anthem. Her belting was like nails on a chalkboard
@Imogen Russell Not a hater she has a good range but her belting of 'oooh hey yeah' as exemplified in Dirrrty (near the end) has subjected her to criticism. See Wikipedia for elaboration. If you asked me for my personal opinion, I'd tell you I think she tries too much to have 'soul' in her voice in certain songs like Ain't No Other Man.
@Imogen Russell i get what you are saying. Ok. She's under 30 years of singing so no biggie there.. however I beg to differ slightly on the albums from Stripped to current albim. I respect the fact that she loves to experiment in different genres. Yeah, I hear the albums post-Stripped were ahead of their time (that's fine) but they really didn't bring much success overall. I think if she kinda had a particular formula for an album consistently (part pop/rnb and part whatever genre), she would have done much better
Christina is wonderful, at only 21 years old she did this?! She definitely came from somewhere in the future, speaking of racism and feminism, when it was not a fashion or pilitically correct, Goddess👌🔥🙌

The way she performed it at the men strike back awwrds was the best especially because it was the debut era and that separated her from the rest of them. It was a moment
I went to see this show in LA. She did a co headlining tour with Justin Timberlake and I remember when she did At last and held that note/riff . The whole place was shook haha so many good memories. She is truly amazing live if you get a chance it something you have to witness in person. Great reaction as usual 😊 you keep it fun.

I saw the Stripped concert live! It was the "Justified & Stripped" tour in the states with Justin Timberlake and Xtina. It was amazing! Honestly the only “oversinging” I ever saw from her was in her debut era (there is a dvd for this era but it is mostly behind the scenes footage), but honestly I think it is mostly just said by the people that want to hate her. Etta James herself said Christina had the best cover of At Last and that speaks volumes!

Thank you for this reaction, I really enjoyed it! Sadly didn't see this tour live, just on DVD. My faves: Impossible, Genie, Can't Hold Us Down, Dirrty, Walk Away, Beautiful, Come On Over Baby (acoustic) & Cruz. Basically whole setlist though, lol.
Yes, I've never really gotten that over-singing opinion either. She uses clear and established vocal techniques, that are extremely complicated, in her singing: slides/riffs, runs, adlibs there's more, but that's just at the top of the hat. She also growls a lot, that's a stylistic choice. My point is, labeling those singing techniques as "oversinging" is incredibly ignorant and disrespectful to her. But most people just parrot that opinion of what someone else has said, they don't really think about it analytically. And those who do, well, it can be maybe argued in some_live_performances of hers. For me, from critical point of view, I like clear enunciation and I wish she'd put more effort sometimes to articulating lyrics live, for instance, Fighter's lyrics are extremely complicated, I really love them, so I'd like to hear them more clearly. In some of her first performances of Fighter and Beautiful, she articulated very clearly, and sang them in quite "straight", I did like it.
Most of all, the thing that misses the mark so much of what Christina Aguilera is about, is the oversinging-label when it's pitted against emotion. This is one of the most emotive singers ever. So don't you dare say she doesn't convey emotion just because her artistic choice of singing isn't to your_liking.
Fairness is all I ask from music critics and the general public. She first I think got a teeny bit of that with Liberation-album reviews, also you should check out some of the tour articles, The X Tour reviews point out how ahead of her time she truly was and that's valuable information that lot of the public doesn't necessarily know. --> www.irishtimes.com/culture/music/christina-aguilera-at-3arena-dublin-everything-you-need-to-know-1.4066866

I came full circle in 2019 when I was front row twice for her X Tour in 2019. Her voice just keeps getting stronger and stronger

i haven't had the chance to go see her live 'cause i'm from Peru and she only came to argentina and venezuela. I watched the DVD because I was only 12 at the time when stripped came out lol I have seen The Xperience twice in Las Vegas and she was amazing! She sang a few songs from Bionic and I was happy to hear that she also included Reflection.
