Turbonerds. Everyone in the Philippines, either knows it as Arnis or Eskrima generally. That has been my experience anyway. Kali seems to be more modern and not used much over there.

Hey guys, c'mon, these are just drills, your aim is to practice your moves and build muscle memory. This is not an actual knife fight.. You eventually go faster as you go on but i do believe however that there is no 100% bulletproof way of disarming a knife without you putting your life on the line.... You WILL get cut. It's better to have this knowledge tho as a last resort if running away isn't an option. I know guys below this wanna eat eachother's heads off to prove their point but then again, if you see a knife.. RUN like hell if you can... You don't know what it's like here in the Philippines.

i know what it's like back home. like once a week, there's always a fight in the neighborhood, if they dont use fists, they use knives, if they dont use knives, they use sticks(Olisi). filipinos dont use guns or trashtalk or a whole gang to fight, like here in the west. it is always a 1v1 fight. kids and women knows how to fight, so better prepare your ass if you come to the philippines.

Very high skill level with good technique. Remember, despite such training, it is still very probable one will be cut, perhaps fatally, when being confronted by blade-wielding aggressor. A co-worker of mine, who knows I study/teach martial arts, once jokingly raised his pen toward me, as a mock knife attack. I then asked him how much he knew about knife fighting. He replied "enough to know to use a gun." Sarcastic, but really the perfect answer.

You're absolutely right no one NEEDS to learn how to do this but it is a part of human nature to want to protect oneself and one's kin. What sort of bubble do you think you live in that you and your family are in absolutely no danger of physical harm from an outside intruder. You are seriously disillusioned with your wealth and career to think you are immune from this from ever happening.

    Nice control & Energy flow.
Lets put some perspective to some comments here. In any system you practice, persistent training is an ABSOLUTE PARAMOUNT!!! SPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TRAINING WEAPONS. There is no such thing as OVER NIGHT TECHNIQUE. CONTINUES DRILLING AND TRAINING POLISHES YOUR SKILL. A profesional knife fighter always knows how to defend their weapon. These arts revolves around blades & impact weapon. Their movement dynamics are different from other arts.
    Peace out.

Whats interesting is the sparring session. Both are clearly well versed, but there's a winner and a loser REAL quick, though it seems like it could have been either one at any given time. In real life? Either one could have been dead and that's that. What I take from this is, avoid a freaking knife fight.

I'm an American who's lived 11years in Asia due to my job postings.
I've lived and worked in the Phillipines....many parts of it.
Only the very few affluent areas are safe. You said you've "been" there? Lots of Chinese have "been" to the USA....only to Las Vegas and New York....certainly not DETROIT.
The most violent places in Asia are mostly within the Phillipines and Thailand, and certain parts of Indonesia.
US?...it's not only dangerous in certain parts...but downright hilarious.

If you were even in to a position where you need to defend yourself from an assilant with a knife just do your best

If you hv never been there, OR you've only visited a small % of that nation, you have no idea on exactly what's going on there everyday in REAL LIFE.
An Indian who's ONLY visited 1 city in your country has no right to talk shit or to praise your country, cos he hasn't seen the complete picture.

The Philippines is not the most violence place in Asia. I been there a few times. It's peaceful place and it's not mandatory to learn Eskrima. Also N. Korea is the most violence place in Asia.
Did you forget that US got the most death count in the world? 95% of death was cause by random acts of violence.
