I haven't heard sounds like this since the early to mid 90s. It's so cathartic and an absolute privilege to hear all you guys play again after such a long hiatus.
There are hundreds of TH-camrs talking about production, guitars and effects. But This video of you and your old band talks 1000% more about your music knowledge and good taste. Congrats!!
If I close my eyes I see a young band who are way ahead of their time. When I open my eyes I see a band who never stopped being young. Music is timeless.
The vocals were spot on, it’s amazing he still has that range. The song transports you to somewhere else and that’s the signature of a really good song.
Holy cannoli! Given you were in the band I thought it likely didn’t suck, but this is seriously fantastic… song is now firmly stuck in my head. More, please!
The audio angst of 90s music was about production as much as musicianship and you guys did your song and that era, justice. This video shows how special it is to be in a band at any age - the give and take camaraderie, the trust in each other's abilities, yet staking out your own musical real estate to create a whole that is greater than the individual parts. Well done!
What I suspected before actually watching this video: Rick is this super-knowledgable guy, with serious technical skills, a massive online audience, and such a nuanced view of music, but when it comes to the band actually performing he'll not be front and centre. I was right, and I genuinely love this. Humility and virtuosity are two virtues which don't often come in combination, but they are evident here. Maybe that's why so many of us love your videos, Rick.
that sounds surprisingly fresh for 22 years. The voice is really cool - clear sound. It got grunchy vibes but not just that - got a feeling of desire, can’t grab why

You perfectly captured that epic gritty vibe of the 90-00's and brought it back into this decade with your own sound. God how I miss this sound, the instruments and vocals were outstanding. So Rick, you popped the cork and we got a whiff of this fine vintage, well now we're holding out our glass!

I thought it looked cool and played one song in the store, and then stopped it and immediately bought it. I was always floored by the musicianship! 23 years? I can only assume that you all still are engaged in music to this day, considering you four haven’t payed together in so long it was a very tight and well executed performance. Well done!
Having watched countless numbers of your videos and being made aware of you’re seemingly endless knowledge of theory, harmony, rhythm, technique and production etc I have to admit I was expecting your band to be some kind of a power jazz fusion extravaganza affair. You guys still got it! I really admire the singer-to still have the pipes he’s got after all those years! Sounds really good! You know, this might just inspire me to get a group I was with together. We all live in the same area again. Our last gig… 1982!!
Do it! I dare you. I would love to jam with my old band from '84. There have been a lot of bands over the years, but the 80's were an awesome time to be a cover band at the beginning of "New Wave". From Oingo to Thompson Twins to Haircut 100, there was so much going on. Would love to re-visit that group for a jam.
Please tell me you're going to keep the band playing together from now on, because that was FANTASTIC and hit every good 90's rock vibe deep in my soul.
Rick - you're a treasure. Keep it going, man. This is awesome! And just shows how random and fickle the music biz is. You guys could have easily made it huge - heck, this song could be released now and be at home on Alt Nation on Sirius XM. But at the end of the day, that isn't what matters. Finding 4 guys who can together, hang out, have fun and make great music like this after being apart so long is just priceless. I'm a hack bass player and when I gigged with my old band, it was just simply the best feeling ever. Make up some 90's Billionaire t-shirts just as if you rocked stadiums around the world back in the day. I'll buy one and proudly wear it and when people ask, I'll tell them of my times listening to your CD's and going to the concerts where you opened for Smashing Pumpkins and REM. It will be our inside joke - just you and a couple million of your Billionaire subscribers.
Rick ! What a joy this was to see and hear your band 👍🏻. It’s about time we got to see and expression and a smile on your face that just exudes I’m just in my happy place and dovetailed in tight with my friends, you look very happy ! Loved seeing that Rick, you’ve given us listeners so much more than you’ll ever know. Thank you our friend 👍🏻
Rick, this sounds great. 23 years and you can pull this off! Singer sounds crisp and the band is tight. I hope you had as much enjoyment playing as I did watching. Great job guys.
I love this! Just purchased your cd from 1999 with this song on it. The whole thing is terrific. You should re-record it for 2024. You guys sound great.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the hell out of the fact that--on top of everything else--this was a live-off-the-floor recording? This sounds killer! So much so that it could go straight onto a record as-is!
I have to admit, you guys were much better than I was expecting, if for no other reason, that you haven't played together in so many years. That was impressive. Should be a good time to get up in front of a crowd.
This is GREAT!!!! How could you guys NOT have made music for over 20 years! Get busy making up for lost time. You all sound fantastic! I love it!!!! Wow... Did I see this is GREAT?
Wauw, that's like riding a bicycle. When you close your eyes and just listen, this doesn't sound like a bunch of older guys, but young, fresh, energetic, powerful and wild. Once you've found the button of R&R somewhere in your genes, they will never leave you and be as revitalising as ever. Don't stop and hopefully you can share some footage on the actual gig you BILLIONAIRES did. Thnx!!!
That song will go straight to the top on line right now. Awesome. I can’t believe you guys haven’t played together in all these years. Fantastic. And oh, more please.
When I was a very young player, not even 16, I read an interview with some middle aged dude named Brian May. The interviewer commented on his youthful demeanor and he said, .."Music is the fountain of youth..." That stuck with me, obviously. It *can* be so true too. Youthful passion is so easy to lose and writing music (GENUINE music) gives a person a sort of connection to their old self. You know, it's not like a picture where you just look at it and reminisce over it but it's actually something you created! Something that sprung up from your "fountain" of youthful passion, determined to express whatever it was you were trying to express. Again, it's not like writing poetry, which you go back and read 30 years later. It's music, it's in your head/heart and you have to perform it again. It can take on new meanings, for sure, but that old original longing to be heard, to be understood even... that passion that causes the flow is always there. Sometimes embarrassingly so. 😂 The fountain is as deep as your reason for it. That's one reason why some musicians seem to get better with age while others lose it all after becoming too comfortable. I'm talking with the music they started with; not the new. Then again if you're really happy and comfortable then your passionate music will reflect that. I have examples.
Rick, I really thought they'd just try again, but what your band delivers here is incredibly fresh and present. Please do a little club tour through Europe.
Rick, I first watched this tonight and I was blown away. This sound you guys embrace is everything I ever remember from the 90s and just is something that you don't hear very often anymore. I know you know this but this is a experience to cherish and is just timeless. Being together with bandmates that are still alive. I'm stunned that this song never made it to the charts and after this performance it really should. This is my kind of music and I can relate to it 100%. Way to go Billionaire...love always Rick!
In high school in metro Atlanta around the year 2000, the cool teachers in their late 20s loved Billionaire and thought it was going to be the next big thing. I'm now a decade older than they were then and moved 7,000 miles away. Listening to this really took me back to another place and time.
The thing is the name of the band sucks. Does anyone really like rich people? I think the band is great though, I mean that was their song we just heard - it has all the elements I like in rock music. just change the name to Thousand Aire or something!!! And now I just read they were signed back then. I think the name wasn't good yeah there's a lot to a name! Didn't someone try to tell them?
@@metalmike570 There were lots of questionable band names in the southeast at the time. By the way, to avoid a lot of emojis and to clarify tone, if I were saying this out loud, I'd be smiling the whole time. :) One of my favorite albums was also produced by Rick - Jump, Little Children's Between the Dim and the Dark. The band was named after the old blues song and tried rebranding as "Jump" on this Rick-produced album. It didn't work and the band didn't make another album for years after that. (I don't blame Rick for that, though.) Rick has also done quite a bit with Butch Walker. On one album in the mid-oughts, Butch's band was called "The Let's-Go-Out-Tonites." Between the wordiness, the unnecessary punctuation, and the misspelling, I'm not sure what I hate the most about that name.
@@yomintyfresh Either way they were real rock musicians, I would just say the name of Butch's band is too cheesy, and I'm from the northeast. They should have called themselves The CoatHanger Heads or something.
Loved the song Rick. As someone born in 1990 the post grunge, 90s to early 00's alt rock sound you guys have is the exact sort of music that made me pick up a guitar as a teenager. For you and the lads to be going out to play some shows must be the coolest feeling after such a long hiatus.
I was expecting some really good music, but you guys really knocked this out of the park. You all really do sound like seasoned pros. The tasteful note choice, the relentless "tug at your heartstrings" groove, the soulful, understated delivery... damn that was good. Thank you so much for sharing it with us all. God bless
You guys are great. The vocals, the drumming, and guitar playing were a treat to my ears. You guys knocked it out of the park. Can not wait till you start touring. I would love to come and see you play among your many fans Rick. WOW!!!!!
Well, you just inspired me to get my band back together. If you can sound that damn good after over 20 years of not jamming then there's hope. You guys kick ass!
Dang! That kicked ass. You guys sound fantastic. Extra props to the singer still belting it out. A great tune to boot. Holy Sh*t! Can you record a few songs a month and upload to YT? One per month?
surprised you weren't big in the 90's, you guys have definitely got "THE" sound!! happy for you guys, it must be awesome getting the band back together.
I totally did not expect this sound. For some reason I expected one of those sounds that are only enjoyed by connoisseurs, but this I am not one and this is AWESOME.
@@muddygun Huh? This is THE prototypical 90's Alternative Rock sound and done very well. Think Failure, Screaming Trees, Better Than Ezra, etc. Surprised they didn't blow up.
@@Jay.McCarty Yeah, those happened in the early to mid 90s. The late 90s, when they put out Acension was a rough time for this kind of music. Plus, that album had a lot of rock n roll roots in it. The bands you mentioned strayed a bit more in to grunge.
Seeing you guys connecting again and playing almost brought tears in my eyes. Rick, people who never met you love you like a family member and that’s truly remarkable
This is an epic performance...bravo guys! It takes me back to A Sort of Homecoming from Wide Awake in America one of my favourite live songs of all time.
thats probably the best music i have heard in a long time. I admittedly never listened to your band before and I see ive done myself a disservice. very much late 90s style which is like 'new old stock' to me. its like, the stuff I didnt know i wanted till i saw it being brought out of the closet and dusted off and id never seen it before. hard to explain really, but thats how it felt to me. I could have played this on the radio a billion times in the day.
Musically it somehow reminds of Foo Fighters and U2. Very interesting song! And the fact that you got together with your old mates for the first time in so many years is amazing. The very thing that life did not drift you apart. I see such reunions are becoming some sort of a thing in musical TH-cam :) And that’s beautiful

Came to the comments to say essentially the same thing! Rick, I hope you guys don't wait another 23 years to do this again. You four obviously had some chemistry and it seems it's still there. Album! Or at least EP!
*MORE PLEASE*OMG! This is amazing! Your band-friends, this sound is EXACTLY what we need more of today. This was beautiful, groovy and heavy. (Independent and monetized-watch out Tom 😁) Thank you-just doesn't have the meaning I wish to put here, bc I needed this sound in my life. I'm grateful to be subbed, and stupidly glad I heard this.
Ehh, no. The vocals clearly don't line up with the video. Neither do all the instruments, probably, but I wasn't paying attention to that. EDIT: What I'm trying to say. They did multiple takes, of course. Probably did some comping. Cause, you know, that's what bands have been doing since recording was a thing. And, dare I say it, it's very probable that they even did some vocal tuning
The first thing it comes to my mind is "WOW Rick!!" Awesome band, you really sound amazing! An instant flashback to my teenage years!! Love it!!! It's a mixture between Oasis and Smashing Pumpkins
Man Rick, that’s a far cry from those days of seeing James Hall & Jimmy Gnecco from Ours playing. So interesting seeing Darren as well. First time I heard his drumming was on Dropsonics first album. He has some killer chops. Really enjoyed all of that!
Vibes of U2, Foo Fighters, 90s rock ballads in general. Killer tune!!! Those chord progressions stole my heart. The whole band is ON FIRE!!! More please!
Wow! Blown away by the great melodies, propulsive drumming and power chords! Great tones all around! Cool vocals, as well. I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Damn, Rick......add this to list of your incredible achievements - AND MAKE AN ALBUM!

It truly sounds like you guys haven't missed a beat even after 22 years without playing together. Thanks for sharing that moment with us.
The best old man band I've heard in a while! You guys should've been big. It still sounds fresh today.
I was thinking the same thing, pretty damn impressive.
Rick this sound was completely unexpected. The singer is damn good you guys still have the chops and that ending what a slaughter on the drums.
As a studio engineer and a lover of music full stop, this is what it's all about!
Great music, Rick!
Genuinely happy to see this!
Man you got the drummer, you got the vocals, you got the riffs. Go Rick. so impressed, from a fellow songwriter.
@@adambane1719 yeah, feels a bit rough, but I assume it's from 2001
Not a fan of the singers tone. Very thin and whiny.
@@deepzepp4176 its definitely not for everyone but you have to agree it is very 90's alt rock
I love this! Just purchased your cd from 1999 with this song on it. The whole thing is terrific. You should re-record it for 2024. You guys sound great.
The greatest feeling in the world is jamming with your bros. You guys sound killer Rick! God Bless all of you gentlemen 🤘🏻💙🎸
Listening to this transported me mentally back to my 20’s. It’s like it was the ‘90’s all over again. Thanks guys. Y’all sound Great.
OMFG AMAZING!! Darren absolutely KILLING IT on drums!🤘
The Silver Foxes Still Rock ...that was awesome !!!
Your body tells you every day your getting old, but with music you never feel old. Great piece boys!
Music IS the fountain of youth. Rock on.
This is so true. I'm 55 years old and still play like I wished I could when I was 15.
The fountain is as deep as your reason for it.
@@adambane1719 got opinions, bro?
I'm watching listening to this for the third time!!! This is quite awesome!! Please make more. Everyone is so great
Wow. You made me feel like it's still 1997 or so, listening to a band in heavy rotation on Mtv, enjoying my best days. Thank you for the ride
Holy shit you guys are AWESOME!!! Your singer’s voice needs to be on the radio! That shit gave me chills!
I think the band is great though, I mean that was their song we just heard -
it has all the elements I like in rock music. just change the name to Thousand Aire
or something!!!
That's what they get for trashing Creed lol
@@metalmike570 Nah, they just need to change the spelling to "Bill, ya neigher!" Fits right in with the 90s Bill Clinton jokes.
That is gold, Rick! After that long, it's almost impossible to get past the "wouldn't it be cool if..." stage. You guys did it!!!
God bless
That is what we are missing you guys keep going
You guys are great. The vocals, the drumming, and guitar playing were a treat to my ears. You guys knocked it out of the park. Can not wait till you start touring. I would love to come and see you play among your many fans Rick. WOW!!!!!
Poor bass player :’(
Your vocalist deserved decades of praise> I love him.
He reminds me of Filter
Reminded me of Perry Farrell! Very Porno for Pyros.
@@JeffMasonProject That's exactly what I was thinking. Marc sounds a lot like Richard Patrick.
For sure. They are all amazing but he really did stand out.
@JeffMasonProject thank you! I was trying to place what I was hearing and that's it.
This sounds amazing, you need to release more of these. Maybe some from the show if you can . Keep up the great work guys
So wonderful and wholesome to see your old band reunited. Truly an unforgettable bond with your bandmates.
Sounded great! I hope playing together in the present helped you all celebrate the success you achieved back in the day! 👏👏👏
Well, you just inspired me to get my band back together. If you can sound that damn good after over 20 years of not jamming then there's hope. You guys kick ass!
SOMETHING tells me none of them WERE EVER that far away from music though!
Dang! That kicked ass. You guys sound fantastic. Extra props to the singer still belting it out. A great tune to boot. Holy Sh*t!
Can you record a few songs a month and upload to YT? One per month?
I can't even tell you how much I LOVED this band! This is a great recording of the song, and you are all so talented! ❤
You’re so lucky to still have them. My three other band mates have passed on to that great gig in the sky.
I’m sorry for your loss it sucks to lose band friends just remember don’t me sad that there gone be happy they were here😁
Wow, that's the second song by Billionaire that you've posted, and I really love the sound of that band. Awesome.
surprised you weren't big in the 90's, you guys have definitely got "THE" sound!! happy for you guys, it must be awesome getting the band back together.
I totally did not expect this sound. For some reason I expected one of those sounds that are only enjoyed by connoisseurs, but this I am not one and this is AWESOME.
They got buried under the emo/punk sound at the time. No one wanted rock n roll back then, 99x tried…but that was the extent of it sadly
@@randalltolliver9744 Yeah, I saw this was out in '97 right after I posted. On the outer edge but this stuff was still kind'a big.
This is the type of songs that we need to be made and played. Awesome job after 20 years! Hats off to all of you!
Retired musician - LOVE the content and today’s tunes - bless you RB
Musically it somehow reminds of Foo Fighters and U2. Very interesting song! And the fact that you got together with your old mates for the first time in so many years is amazing. The very thing that life did not drift you apart. I see such reunions are becoming some sort of a thing in musical TH-cam :) And that’s beautiful
@@similarsubstance4885 Definitely heard a little Coldplay in this.
I agree with you about Foo Fighters. That's immediately who they reminded me of.
With a little bit of GooGoo Dolls blended in (especially lyrically).
spot on, so nostalgic as well
It reminded me of Filter.
What a treat this video was! Holy crap, you guys sound pretty damn awesome for not playing together for 23 years! Very cool song. Loved it! Thank you for recording the reunion! ❤
WOW!!!
Indeed. This guy. Such a treat for the soul and our species. Beato Club!!!!
Would love to see this reunion turn into a new album. Loved the song, Rick.
You've got to please do more of this for us and the rest of the world that loves good music! Your next TH-cam channel better be BILLIONAIRE! This whole story writes itself! (Independent and monetized-watch out Tom 😁) Thank you-just doesn't have the meaning I wish to put here, bc I needed this sound in my life. I'm grateful to be subbed, and stupidly glad I heard this.
This is amazing Rick! I want to hear more of the band. This song was dope. I hope this is a rebeginning for you guys.
Dude this is an awesome song! Recorded live with vocals, nice 🎸
Not live for sure
The first thing it comes to my mind is "WOW Rick!!" Awesome band, you really sound amazing! An instant flashback to my teenage years!! Love it!!! It's a mixture between Oasis and Smashing Pumpkins
Man Rick, that’s a far cry from those days of seeing James Hall & Jimmy Gnecco from Ours playing. So interesting seeing Darren as well. First time I heard his drumming was on Dropsonics first album. He has some killer chops. Really enjoyed all of that!
Mix of Porcupine Tree + Janes Addiction + Filter. Awesome sound! I think we need a new album, it’s inevitable now!
Maybe U2 too? 🤔
Glad I wasn’t the only one getting Jane’s Addiction vibes.
kinda sounds 2000s indie bands to me.
For a sec there i thought it was filter. after they went AM. KOOL LuvD
Dude. That’s music. Thank you and your band buddies for doing that. Great song!! I want to hear more of your old stuff.
