My niece was a heroine addict. Her mother was so afraid to lose her, which was basically enabling my niece. I contacted my other siblings & we did an intervention. She went to three different rehab facilities. It didn’t work but finally I when she overdosed for the third time…. I called the police. She went to jail in solitary confinement. This gave her the rock bottom, & I gave her tough love, which was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
She is now 7 years sober, married with two beautiful children, and a wonderful job. It was a hard decision to intervene but, the alternative was she would have died.

I agree Claire that anyone around someone with a self destructing addiction needs to step back. It’s called “letting go, with love”. As hard as it is to walk away from someone you love it really is the kindest thing to do. We need to balance our scales and think hard about the difference between enabling and helping to heal. In addition to AA there is NA - narcotics anonymous and FA - families anonymous.
Thanks to you and Eddie for shining a much needed light on this subject.

I really enjoyed listening to Eddie talk - and the way you interacted with him too, Claire. He spoke very well - articulate, insightful and in such a meaningful manner. He explained his journey clearly and I'm so happy that he is in recovery .....what a gorgeous man.....and what a transformation in his life. Good on him! I totally relate to the feelings of lacking 'sweetness of life' re sugar problems, Claire! I was glad to hear Eddie is going on social media - he is easy to listen to and his genuineness comes across - he will help many! much love to both of you xx

I am so glad I watched this as I grew up with a dad who was referred to as a street Angel and a house devil. He was violent when he was in drink and we were terrified of his moods. I never saw it as an illness. I married an alcoholic unknowingly. He was a lovely loving husband and father but I saw him as a demon when he was in drink. I vowed I would never put my children of his children through the hell I faced as a child. He sought help but unfortunately the bottle won. I told him I loved him and I always would but I couldn't let him stay with our family. God love him he left to go live with his mum. We all lost him eventually. I blamed myself for years but I stand by my choices and I will never blame him. It was a choice over which we had no control.
You have taught me what it was like from his position. So thank you for your honesty

Feel free to give my page a follow and in time I’ll be posting some content that will help enlighten suffers but also the loved ones.

A lot of people don't see it as an illness. The way I see it is they are not addicted to alcohol and drugs, they are addicted to escaping reality. My hubby is alcohol dependent and going through a relapse just now. He managed 26 months sober. He is ex army so a lot of demons and the attitude in the army was stiff upper lip and get on with it. Men need to open up about their feelings. It's not a weakness but in fact a strength. Well done Eddie. Wishing you and your family all the very best for the future and thank you for opening up ♥♥♥

Well done Eddie, I have a family member who has been clean and sober for 16 years, also another family member who died. It is so hard to understand sometimes, but if you are not addicted to these things, then you dont know what anyone else is going through! My family member is in AA, runs his own meeting, and helps a lot of addicts now. Keep going Eddie, you are helping more than you know ❤xx

WOW… this was absolutely Amazing Claire, it really was…
Thank you so much Eddie, a lot of what you said really resonated with me…
Most of my mistakes in life were done through alcohol and thankfully not drank in years now.
I have an addictive personality and have realised I can be addicted to cigarettes, sugar, food…
So for me, I have to be very strict with my life & routine and what I surround myself with…
I had to start to learn to love myself & self care in every form, to help keep me balanced & at peace…
You sound like somebody who I would have loved to have mentored me throughout my years…
Thank you for being so open, honest & raw…
You were very articulate & humble and I feel the world would be a better place, with more people like you to help guide those within it…
I wish you every success & happiness on your journey…
    Thank you Eddie…❤❤❤

Eddie makes so many good points about addiction and yes, Claire, why do some people treat those addicts as pariahs comparable to someone with a visible physical ailment? I think there are very few people who don't have the propensity for addiction. Thank you both and you are correct about the need for control. All of us know of horrendous cases, families ruined etc . We all need to find our inner peace and its not easy to find with family baggage, influence of peers, life in general. Self respect is the key.

It was at the darkest point in hubby's drinking I found reiki which helped me to look after my own needs too. That was when he went into detox off his own back. I was there to support him but didn't realise I needed support too because I was ashamed of how life was. 🙏🙌

Hopefully your brother will always be able to keep the clean path going forward.
Once an addict always an addict and my God have I experienced that route but I do far have only dipped a toe and not swam in the pool of recklessness of behaviour.
I admire anyone that can step forward with their addiction but it’s staying clean of addiction that is the way forward and it’s a tough choice.
We are all addicted whether it be smoking or caffeine or gambling or drink drugs or anything that is addictive. The prove is in stopping our addictions,
Let’s hope we stay clean of addiction and move forward with a clean slate.
Non of us are perfect myself included, but we have to accept out weaknesses and move into the area of cleansing and not be succumbed back to temptation,
It’s a tough path to follow for all that tred and let’s hope we succeed

There is nothing more important than meeting people were they are in order to help them. Today many are addicted with the mental obsessions of cravings. I loved that you talked about steps that can change, improve and support your best direction. Best statement in the talk : Anyone could benefit from an AA program. Improving your health is an essential access to your best soul energy. This was a wonderful chat!

Thank you, Claire and Eddy ! My addiction was for food and I connected with a 12 step program group to help me with my relationship with food. This addiction is tricky because we need to eat and the relationship with food is connected to emotions. I am now in a relationship with food in a healthy way and am so grateful for the 12 step community ! I also discovered that sugar is a drug and any sugar I ingested was a catalyst for overeating. Off topic, Claire, do you knit your own sweaters? I really like this dark green one and the pink one you wear. Knitting pattern ???

Ive just found this video and must thank you Claire and Eddie for highlighting addictions. Congratulations Eddie 🎉 for sharing your spiritual journey, and being brutally honest. You are an inspiration to others. Good on you for giving back and helping others to get back on track as you have. I've learnt so much from you both. Like Claire, my addiction is sugar. I am slowly managing to wean off it. I love the analogy for sugar addictions, lacking or thinking we are lacking the sweetness in life. 😊
Ive worked caring for folk with liver problems related to addictions over the years, and listened to their stories. Many have died. Ive met nurses who didnt agree they should be offered liver transplants. Everyone has their reasons for taking that path. EVERYONE needs a chance. EVERYONE needs love, kindness and support. There but for the grace of God.....
I'm sure Eddie's ventures will help so many people. Thank you both for everything you are doing to open our eyes. 😇 ❤ ❤❤

Thanks, Eddie. I didn’t know much about the process and you explained it really well. I was intrigued when you talked about the allergy being triggered, because we talk about cravings in nutrition to what we are allergic too and the response it evokes in the body. So true about various addictions. I can related to shopping in all seriousness. Thanks, Claire, for facilitating this. I learned a lot and it has given me new insight I to the 12 step process and pathway and how it relates to spirituality and health coaching vs enabling. Well done, both of you.

Awesome talk. Thank you so much!! I’m grateful to see the bridge between down and dirty real human experience and discussion of our higher being and higher vibration. Make no mistake, an addiction can be the greatest spiritual gift. It provides some with a path to spiritual growth and a desire to keep growing. Again, thank you so much for this video.

My dad who I loved very much was given an ultimatum by my mother get help or get out. He was technically my step-dad we had no idea until we were in our teens. My husband was also an alcoholic I took him losing his licence and the shame of it that proved to him that he had a problem that was 9 years ago. That man was one that I feared, he was never violent towards me but nevertheless I still feared him. Thank you for your frankness.

Hey Claire, a bit of a strange question came to mind and would be interested in your opinion. On the question of healing family lines, generational curses/habits etc..... if someone is an alcoholic in this lifetime, and may have a family history of addiction, but has no children in this lifetime, is it possible to pass the tendency to addiction to future generations if he/she doesn't heal the addiction in this lifetime, then goes on to have a future addiction-plagued incarnation as somebody else who does have children and thus pass the addictive traits on in that way? Hope you can make sense of this. Thank you both and good luck

  • @tartantexan007

I don’t consider myself an addict but I haven’t hd a drink in over a month and have noticed I sleep better, feel better and have more energy. I’ve stopped taking antacids. I do have an alcoholic sister who’s husband is also in my opinion one too. He hides it better. My brother and his wife also in my opinion drink too much. They all plan their lives around their drinking habits. I feel the social aspect in the UK doesn’t help. My grandad on my mums side died early due to his drinking. He was also a gambler. I never met him. My Mum was tee total for years because she saw the misery it brought. She never his it from us. I think she wanted to bring awareness of how it can be generational. Over the years we have tried to intervene with my sister, but she doesn’t think it’s a problem. Sadly her sons are going the same way. I haven’t lived in the same country for years, and I’m always shocked with their drinking when I visit. They actually get a bit abusing because I’ll not drink with them. I agree, until they hit rock bottom, they can’t see what they are doing to themselves.
